I??ve been taking classes at the Yoga Barn for ten years and do you know my biggest regret? That I wasted nine of those years missing classes to do more ??important? things; you know, all those excuses we have for stubbornly not doing what we know would make us feel better? Imagine the results if I had applied the same energy to yoga that I??ve diverted elsewhere? Take my advice and do as I say, not as I??ve done. Check out the Yoga Barn website and review the bios and impressive credentials of Robin Rothenberg and her teaching staff; note the variety of classes: everything from prenatal to therapeutic, beginners to advanced, kids to seniors; compare your schedule to the classes available (6:00 am to 7:15 pm) and then, just do it! Make the commitment to become the person you could be if you learned only one thing in these classes: how to breathe. If you??re still on the fence, consider what I??ve consistently noticed and appreciated about classes at the Yoga Barn. They care! It??s a nurturing, supportive environment with skilled, well-trained teachers to guide you through the poses. No matter how cranky, stiff or stressed I feel walking in, I always feel better in mind, body and spirit when I leave. So could you.

I began offering massage at The Yoga Barn in January 2000. It was remarkable to see the ??yoga glow? radiating from students as they left the studio. The light drew me in and I??ve never looked back. I started practicing with Robin and the wonderful staff of teachers as often as possible. I attended my first Full Immersion Yoga Retreat the following year, Advanced Studies in 2002 and Viniyoga Teacher Training in 2003. I can??t express how deeply this practice has enriched my life and the lives of my much beloved friends and family. I??ve met the most beautiful, deeply caring, remarkable people ?? fellow students of Life, all. Thoughts of these blessings bring tears to my eyes as I write this. . .

I think this note I wrote about the Retreat experience in 2001 is a good description of a Yoga Barn experience:

Robin led us on a journey of self-exploration with asana, dance, pranayama, chanting, reflection and meditation. She encouraged us to reflect on our lives and to look into the faces we wore as children. I recognized distant qualities of exuberance, playfulness and joy! She suggested we imagine ourselves as elders and learn what wisdom we would have to offer our younger selves of present day. I thank Robin for helping me connect with the beautiful woman who gave me the yoga practice I try to follow today: to open more doors and windows, to laugh and play, to make up songs and to dance around the living room.

After over 30 years of increasing muscle spasms in my back, the pain became unendurable even with medication, hot packs, ice, and yoga instruction. X-rays determined that I have some spinal deterioration from arthritis but my doctor advised me that some patients do not have so much pain with this degree of damage. It sounded like hope to me.

I called around and found Robin at the yoga barn. I learned that she had done a great deal of work on relievig back pain. After three private appointments with her, I started the Senior Yoga class and then added the Yoga Therapy class as well. I also do a daily yoga practice at home. I have been practicing at the Yoga Barn for three years and hope to be able to go there for many more years.

I have less pain and continue to get stronger and more comfortable in my body. The relaxation techniques have improved the quality of my sleep and made my relationships with others much better.

I enjoy the camaraderie in the classes. There is no competition or judgment from other students or the instructors. We just all want to be healthier and happier people and we enjoy seeing others make progress.

Robin's Viniyoga approach to yoga is far different from anything I tried before. Her mission is to help her students achieve comfort in body and mind. She and her instructors adjust poses to the person not vice versa. This method protects any injured areas by strengthening muscles and improving posture.
