Six hours and $600 later, they said IMMEDIATE surgery was needed on my dog. Which would be another $1500-$2000. Luckily my normal vet opened and we took her there. She was acting normal, no symptoms of being ill or needing immediate surgery. No surgery was needed after all and my dog was released a few hours later under a correct diagnosis.

Not only will they nickel and dime you at EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES, but they'll try and do work that is unneeded. The doctor was UNCOMPASSIONATE and only spoke about $$$$. These people either have extremely POOR JUDGMENT or they are really DESPERATE FOR MONEY. I would never recommend this place to ANYONE.

We purchased an puppy and a day later we found out he had parvo. We took him to Sumner Vet for treatment on a Saturday. They were very rude. We were told that the dog had a 50/50 chance to survive and that it would cost us anywhere between 1500.00 to 2700.00. We were told if we did not have the money right at that moment that they would not treat our dog. When we said we would sign a contract for the amount because we had the money in the bank but could not get that much out of the ATM they said we would have to take our dog somewhere else that they required full payment at time of service no matter what. They were only concerned about the bottom line. The visti cost us 150.00 and all they did was tell us "yup he is sick" . We took the puppy straight to Auburn Veterinary Hospital on Auburn Way and they not only helped with letting us put a down payment down and pay on Monday they treated our puppy and he is now home and healthey.
I dont believe that he would have survived at Sumner. I will tell everyone i know not to go to Sumner unless you have alot of money to spend and like to get treated like you and your animals are worthless.

This is not specific to Deborah Carlons, but instead to Sumner Vet. Do you want to be ripped off? Go to Sumner Vet. I have been a customer for 10+ years because of convenient location, nice staff and good care, but have had enough. They take advantage of customers and are dishonest in their calls about updating on cost. No matter what you sign or what they call to update, you will hit the higher cost. And they will call mutiple family members with costs and not explain it is additional on top of other costs. Since Sumner Vet moved to the new larger facility their business mission seems to be "charge the customer as much as possible!" or "never charge under max quote - if you're under....add things to the bill!" We have had 6 dogs through this vet and received multiple un-necessary recommendations to for procedures and surgeries since they moved. What inspires me to actually make a comment now is their dis-honesty in a recent emergency situation. While I cannot complain about the care becasue the vets and staff are nice and seem competent, I truly believe that Sumner Vet is a money pit and they will take advantage of customers financially if they can. Please beware.

My regular vet was closing when my cat became suddenly ill, he recommended I take my cat to the hospital. I went to Sumner Hospital. They ran a very few basic tests, hydrated him, started him on anitibiotics and gave me a bill for almost $1,100.00. He was there approx 12 hours. They never provided me with a clear diagnostic, They tried to pressure me into a more extensive stay and an ultrasound. Once I took my cat back to his regular vet he noted their reports to be incomplete, and had to re-run with more extensive tests. I will NEVER go back! As a responsible pet owner of course I want to take good care of my animal, but they took advantage of me when I was clearly in a vulnerable state. They even lost my cat's collar with his pet's license.

Will not use again. They were cheaper for puppy package but after that way over priced. I had to put my older kitty down and called Sumner Vet for $119.00 this included a vet visit. The vet.visit for $49.00 to discuss opitions. Wow I called Buckley Vet. The front desk person gave suggestion when bringing in pet also a back door for privacy. It only cost $40.00 and did not require a Vet. visit charge. Buckley was wonderful and kind.

My cat Babygirl got sick on Memorial day weekend, rather she was sick before but my normal vet just dismissed it as a behavior change.

Since she wasn't snapping out of it and stopped eating on Memorial Day I took her to my vet's recommended ER vet hospital which is Sumner Vet.

They were amazing at Sumner Vet, both to my husband and myself but most importantly to my beloved Babygirl. Unfortunately she ended up having a very aggressive form of cancerous lymphoma that attacked her bone marrow so that she wasn't producing blood cells.

Amazingly through pain management and a couple of blood transfusions they kept her alive long enough for me to get back home as I was out of town for work.

They understood that Babygirl was not a "pet" to my husband or myself but a beloved family member that saw me through several tours of duty that my husband did in both Saudi and Iraq.

No price was too high to pay for any of the treatment options that they suggested to us, we tried every single one of them but unfortunately had to be less selfish and decide to let her go as she was having problems breathing and was in a lot of pain.

My cat would have been diagnosed with the disease much sooner had the previous vet ran a simple blood test when we told him that her behavior was odd.

FYI, more and more cats are getting Leukemia younger and younger so don't scrimp on having this blood test done at any age! Also, an indicator that something could be medically wrong or that your cat is pre-cancerous can be a simple blood test that checks for high calcium levels in the blood stream if you are unwilling to foot the bill for the FLK test.

Yeah they are a tad expensive, but for me and my husband our treating her like our child instead of "just a pet" influenced how they interacted with us and her. I guess we had treated her like a "pet" instead and immediately asked about how much a procedure would cost, they would have behaved differently.

I recommend them to everyone who will listen now, and don't recommend my previous vet, and I will most likely never use the vet previous to Sumner Vet again.

Bottom line is I would rather have a vet that understands the depth of caring my husband and I give to our animals we are lucky enough to have in our lives than one who shuffles them through like fast food orders.

Thank you Sumner vet for making one of the most difficult times in my life much easier than it would have been at a different vet.

This place is way to expensive. First time I took my dog there I told them what was wrong with our dog they did not listen to me . They sent me home and charge me $145. I went back after 24 hours because of the same issue. and then they told me what wrong different then what they told me before. They same thing I told them the first time? This time they kept him over night and put a IV some antibiotics in him the cost $1100.. they did nothing else ?.

Took my grandmother's cat to have an infection taken care of. We've gone to other vets in the area because this hospital's charges are obnoxious. Vet looked at the cat's tail, looked at the teeth, and told my wife surgery was absolutely necessary. After refusing surgery, overnight visit and the shot for antibiotics (80 dollars for the shot alone), we had the abrasion lanced and we fed the cat the antibiotic pills. After taking care of the cat, the vet kind of threw the cat (in the carrier) on the desk and didn't say a word.

We had our cat have the exact same fight a week ago with other cats, and took him to the McMillan Vet out in Orting. The entire visit (including pills AND shot AND exam) was 78 dollars. Sumner wanted 80 just for the shot!

Never again. Don't let them prey on the fears they will tell you. They are just like car salesmen.

The people who work here are great with animals and their owners trying to make sure they get the best service possible. There are alot of people going in and out so sometimes it may take a little time but they people were great with my dog when we took her there. They made me feel really good about it. Alot of my friends take their animals there because it is local and they love it too. It is a great place to take your pets.

While they are often busy, I take my animals to Sumner Vet Center for the quality of the people who work there. They have always taken great care and kindness when doing everything from routine visits to emergency service. Kind hearted people, often willing to go the extra step to take care of both the owners and the pets (and don't seem to forget that when your pet is in trouble, often the owner is in more pain than the animal)

PROS:
CONS: busy, a little on the expensive side (but you get what you pay for)
