Cozy, continental atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and drink! Having immensely enjoyed over a dozen convivial evenings at The Sitting Room over the past 3 years, we have only praise for this bar. The Happy Hour is a great value and the food and drink is of excellent quality. The Stella is cold and fresh. and we are always greeted warmly by the friendly bartender and the owner. If only we had such a place in our neighbourhood in Vancouver, BC!

I have been going to The Sitting Room for about a year now and it is still one of my favorite bars in Seattle. The name is exactly what you should expect here: A place to sit, chat, relax and enjoy the company of those around you...

The food is always amazing and while it may be a little more expensive than the sliders and endless tots you're used to what you get is infinitely more pleasurable.

The employees have all been there as long as I have been going there which really says something about a place. The owner is an amazing, friendly man and is there every day when the bar opens. The employees are all extremely friendly, outgoing and easy-going which is exactly what I look for in a place that is supposed to be about good food, good drinks and good company to enjoy it all with.

I'll keep coming here.

I've been going to the Sitting Room for about 8 months, since I moved from the U-dist. to Queen Anne. I always found the place to be charming, with great drinks and eats. Great servers and bartenders-most who have been there for years. I was there last night-it was a sat. and I witnessed some of the trashiest behavior I have ever seen. A group of people celebrating a party took up half the room and kept trying to order coors light, vodka red-bull, sliders and french fries. The Sitting Room is NOT that kind of place. White trash orders aside, they were pushy, rude and insulting to their waitress who has served me many times and I found to be sweet and very helpful with the foood and drink specials. This poor girl-(sorry server, I can't recall your name but you have red hair and always wear great heels), went through this abuse all night and I can only hope they tipped her enough to have put up with it-though from what I could tell they were too busy disputing the cost of their tabs to get out of paying that they were probably bad tippers as well. We witnessed them take their shoes off and walk around barefoot, sit on the floor, and lick frosting off cupcakes they had brought in and then throw the wrappers and half eaten cakes on the floor! Where are these people from?!? Certainly, not Seattlites. What self respecting Seattle inhabitant would try to order chicken strips and a coors light at a wine bar? Long story short: I hope the next time I'm in the ambiance isn't ruined by WT girls and jack a$$ guys and my friend and I can enjoy our wine and cheese board without the circus.

Pros: great food, lovley drinks, excelent service

Cons: when people "trash" the place.

While visiting friends in Seattle last month (I'm from Berkeley, CA) they invited me out to The Sitting Room in lower Queen Anne. We enjoyed the festive atmosphere and delicious appetizers so much on Saturday night we decided to go back again on Monday. This was such a great little place I thought I should help spread the word.

On Saturday, the first thing I noticed was the charming owner, who greeted us at the door and promptly found us a clean table in front. The place was beginning to fill up but his friendly manor seemed to foretell the kind of evening we were to have. Our handsome young waiter patiently answered our questions on the unique small plates menu and he soon filled our table with cocktails (I loved the gin drink with fresh thyme) and tasty dishes that more than satisfied (chorizo with blue cheese & dates, cold-smoked wild salmon, and pate made with free-range nitrate-free pork). The other patrons were obviously having a great time too so the infectious spirit carried us through several more rounds of drinks.

On Monday we were in the mood for a quieter place to have a glass of wine and something to eat and The Sitting Room proved to be that too. Another friendly waitperson (Kelly?) filled our table with a sampling of more delicious small plates (loved the olive selection and the chicken panini with organic greens) that served as our leisurely dinner. I must say that the house red wine was highly drinkable but someone has put some thought into the wine selection as we did some serious tasting. I admit that I was surprised how much I liked the red from Washington state.

I look forward to my next visit to Seattle (this summer) so I can take advantage of the outside seating and enjoy another glass of French wine at a truly unique establishment in one of Seatle's great neighborhoods.

Cons: The "couch" was not that comfortable.

I was hosting a birthday party for one of my girlfriends and The Sitting Room was GREAT!! I had first made the reservation for 15, but had to later change it to accommodate 20, and the staff was wonderful about it. When we got there, we had a whole area to ourselves, including a comfy couch and two armchairs. The waitstaff was phenomenally attentive (remembering everyones' names, even) and replaced our drinks and food as quickly as we could finish them. As far as the food, it was all very delicious. The menu on the website is pretty modest, but there were several tasty choices once we got there. The caprese salad was one of the best I've had in Seattle and the bruschetta (ingredients change by the week) was to DIE for. I even had a cake that the waitstaff held in the kitchen until we were ready to unveil it. When it was time, they lit the candles and brought out plenty of plates and cutlery for all. Overall, the night was a HUGE success! There was plenty of room and a down-tempo ambiance perfect for the group of people I was entertaining. Thank you, Sitting Room for a great party!!

Pros: Excellent service, great food, very chill ambiance.

Cons: Little Pricey (but you pay for what you get), can get crowded on a Saturday night, parking is kinda tricky but there is a paylot right across the street from the bar.

I have been to the Sitting Room several times and it seems to me that there have been some great improvements recently. The wine list is showing signs that they are trying great new wines and the prices are very affordable. Chocolate Martini yum! The bartenders are cute! I love the atmosphere it is very relaxed and the food is first class. Try the soups. Kelly was a great waitress. She was very personable. Monday night is happy hour all night for us in the industry!

The Sitting Room is a great bar with an even greater menu. The drink selection is flush with wines and other cocktails besides the standards. Some are even made with fresh juices , which is definitely a plus for me. I tried a drink with rum and a lychee puree and it was delicious! The atmosphere is warm and inviting but not overwhelming and while I came to the Sitting Room on a Friday night, I will totally return for their happy hour, which looks like a great deal. I am totally in love with this place.

You have to walk inside the SR to find the measure of its true delight. Its a book whose cover is moot when approaching from the street. The air inside is different than any of its neighboring, very distant cousins of Queen Anne nightlife. The staff is as friendly as you want to allow it to be, its din manageable for intimate conversation or enjoyable as what it is if you are without a confabulating partner. The staff is never too intruding but ever amicable and ready to converse, given the signal. I have been coming here for years and it is the one establishment I don't have to think twice about when I have the whim to dip in and tip the dram, especially if it is happy hour, the locals are in and the Newcastle keg is on the ready.

The Sitting Room is the best. Hip & happening with a European flare. New ownership is now offering early evening and late night happy hour seven days a week. They are also now open until 2am. The new expanded wine list is affordable. The food is light cuisine including soups, salads, pate, smoke salmon, cheese boards, tapenade, bruschettta and dessert but the menu will continue to grow.

The employees are TOP NOTCH!! They even notice when your glass of wine is getting low. The vibe is fun and the regulars are very friendly.

No televisions and great music make it an ideal place to bring a date, hang out with friends or just stop in by yourself and meet new people. Everyone will make you feel at home.

It is a one of a kind and I would be quite surprised to find another space in the city that can match it. Check it out. You will love it.

If you're looking for mellow place to hold a conversation over a few drinks and light apps The Sitting Room is a great alternative in lower QA.

Pros: In the summer, can't beat the open wall/window
Cons: Parking, but that's pretty much anywhere in QA

I went to the sitting room for the first time tonight with a friend. We were looking for a glass of wine and some small plates to share. The house red was fine, but the food was a HUGE disappointment. It just wasn't good. I ordered the chevre roasted red pepper spread and a bowl of tomato basil soup. The spread was mediocre at best. You could barely taste the chevre; the red pepper flavor was overwhelming. The tomato soup was the real disappointment. It looked like they poured a can of tomato sauce into a bowl and added some flakes of dried basil. I only ate about 5 bites. I mean, tomato basil soup?? Seems like that should be pretty hard to mess up. I was annoyed at wasting my money (even though it was cheap) and the calories. Both my friend and I agreed we will never go there again, despite the fact that she only lives one block away.

This is one of my favorite places to meet with friends. It's a very intimate setting where you can have a good conversation. The food is amazing, but very small plates. I suggest ordering a few appetizers and sharing!

My husband and I love going to The Sitting Room for happy hour for a couple reasons. First, the drinks are cheap. Second, the happy hour goes from 5-7 and doesn't change depending on "event nights" like so many other lower Queen Anne happy hours do. We love the fact that it goes later than most. Third, we can get really yummy tapenade and rosemary crackers for only $4 and a plate of bread and really great dipping oil for free. It actually makes a great light dinner once in a while! We also love going later at night for drinks.

It's a relaxing, fun atmosphere. The only thing I would ever complain about is the slower services. The servers are friendly, but it's a little slow sometimes.

The waitresses are fashionable, not 'uber-trendy' (whoever wrote the bickering review below sounds bitter and just plain lame) and attentive. The service is seems pleasant and natural...
and the whole scene is stylish and pleasing to the eye.
The beer, prosciutto, bruschetta, and pretty cocktails are my favorite in town (or at least this part of town!)
Beautiful drinks and bartenders.

If you?re down about the slipping economy, go to The Sitting Room! The price for appetizers vs. the miniscule amount you get, will take you back to the dot-com boom when people had money to burn! Or maybe you?ve always dreamt of being a starving artist in Paris but can?t afford the trip? Go to The Sitting Room! Ten bucks will give you that pauper feel with three little pieces of cheese and five tiny pieces of bread, (asking for butter or olive oil put our uber-trendy female server over the edge).

What about a date going bad? Finish off the night at The Sitting Room ? music so tasteless and loud; the sound of your girlfriend whining at you for the umpteenth time will be sweet relief to the Euro-trash techno. (The next time I went to The Sitting Room, the music was so loud even our server had a pained look on his face as he tried to take our order. We asked if he could turn the music down, thankfully he and the bartender obliged - until later, much to my amazement the owner arrived and the first thing he did was turn the music up! When we asked our server about the noise level, he apologized and explained that the owner likes it lively. I can only assume the owner doesn?t need customers?)

Being the forgiving masochist that I am, I tried The Sitting Room one more time. The issue was a drunk woman next to us, wailing over having just been dumped and left there. I can only assume her boyfriend knew she?d be loud and was looking for the perfect place to camouflage her noise? I still recommend this place though; to people I can?t stand. I like knowing where my enemies are so I don?t run into them!

I've never tasted the food here, we always go for drinks. Service is great - our cups were never dry. The last time we went was a couple of months ago after a Sonics game. Our friends really liked the place. The best thing about it is you can have a conversation, hear every word, but still be able to listen to great music.

nice ambiance.
swell service.
this place serves a damn fine manhattan and hot toddy. I went a few months back and the girl bartending served my makers w/ a cherry and a twist, just how I like it ( with no request.)
She also stuck cloves in my roommate's lemon for her hot toddy, and a sprig of thyme in mine (after the manhattan, that is.)
I was very impressed by the attention to detail and the warm, dark environment.
thank you.

I forced myself to sit down and write something about my favorite bar-- the sitting room,
in response to the absolute BS (LIES!) spewed forth below. Neither of the owners of the sitting room are male bartenders, not to mention how unbelievably offensive the term "hook nose" is and how very inappropriate anti-semitic references such as those are at this day & age (especially in this arena! shame on you!!)
the sitting room is a darling place to get a drink and a snack ( happy hour hoeggarden 3.5, happy hour tapenade 3.5= $7+ tip & i am a happy man!)
it is also a great place to bring a lady. My girl loves the Chartreuse cocktail infused with fresh thyme or a summery sage greyhound. never fails to impress.
The stupid rants of some bitter, crazy person should not keep you from this charming, classy, affordable little joint. I would truly regret if I had never come across the sitting room. stop in for a conversation with an attractive waitress, or for a "to die for ' dark chocolate dessert--you won't regret it. CHARMING!

Pros: hot drinks, hot folks, good beer

Cons: hopefully you don't run in to freaks like this guy.

mmmmm.....that triple cream! mild yet so rich and delicious.
i cannot stop thinking about happy hour at the sitting room.
my server let me know also that they now have hoeggarden on draught! hooray.
this is my favorite spot for sunshine. the garage door rolls up and all of my worries escape like the brisk breeze.
the pomegranate cosmo is to die for.
the servers/bartenders are classy and cute and calm.
i love the eensy weensy little pearls of fresh mozzeralla on the bruschetta and the pear relish accompanying the pate.
so unique and sacred. i covet the romance of the it. go check it out!!!

Pros: check it out for happy hour!!! gets busy, bustling atmosphere during later hours

Cons: i'm supposed to be losing lbs. not gaining (CHEESE!) for swimsuit season, check out the salads!

since spring has ushered in its bright blooms, clear albeit cold weather, and long stretches of evening,
i have stopped in to one of my all-time favourite bars, The Sitting Room, on far too many an occasion.
mostly for their spectacular happy hour and divine/delightful decor, i ease into my evening enjoying the play of early-spring light off of my $4 glass of crimson cotes-du-rhone.
as the night progresses at this fresh & cheery cafe/bar the crowd always seems to thicken, the candlelight creating a mysterious & seductive sort of ambiance for all of us to mix to.
always lots of dates & an eclectic array of drinkers/diners, so depending on your mood one may enjoy bringing a book, a beautiful ally, or an intimate entourage of family members because all are sure to enjoy!

the service is swift, yet unhurried, capturing that oh-so-french mood of the leisurely cafe. the peppercorn & pork pate, fresh spring greens salads, bold & bright rioja and elegantly adorned cheese boards are great for noshing on with lovers. the whole mood is magically unobtrusive yet divinely recherche.

i want to compliment my server last time on his graceful & coy presence amongst the confusion of my irritable/irrational work party...
he was creative and calm in his ability to be speedy, savvy, & non-obtrusive sans pretension .
bravo to this little beauty of a bar!!!

If you're into fancy decorative appetizers and don't mind overpriced menu items, you'll have no problem with this place (it *does* have a trendy / hip atmosphere). For me, paying nearly $10 for a sprite and a mediocre (at best) bowl of soup is too much - especially when we're not waited on the entire time (maybe the soft drinks aren't refillable?). The second time I tried this place (at the request of my friends) we went family style on the happy hour appetizers . I was hoping that maybe I'd miss something the first time, but this time I left having spent more money, and still feeling like I hadn't started dinnner. I like gourmet meals, but bland crackers, a couple slivers of cheese, and decorative olives doesn't do it for me.

In fairness, two of my friends think this place is great - to each their own.

this is my absolute favourite bar of the moment.
chill yet never boring. the scene is always very different, night to night, moment to moment.
a good place to bring a book, a date, a hot foriegn friend visiting for the weekend, an attitude,
or an avid desire to people watch.
the servers are all hot. our group's server last night was named Elizabeth and she just glowed as she described the selection of cheeses (and then later...the tantalizing bourbon sauce that would drench our bread pudding! YUM!)
My boyfriend told me later that he wouldn't mind drenching her in whiskey sauce, anyday, anytime, anyplace. I did not even care, It didn't really faze me. I was still in such a pleasant mood thanks to such a well done dining experience.
BRAVO!

Pros: hotties, french hotties, public pda's,cocktails in every colour of the season, comfy couches

Cons: parking! public pda's! small and stuffy at times.

My boyfriend and I dropped in after the ballet earlier this month just looking to extend the the evening. We found instead the perfect place to relax, drink a nice glass of wine, and talk about the performance. We both commented on how it felt as though we were lost somewhere in Europe as we nibbled through the cheese plate. A definite Recommend.

OK, I listened to the reviews here and arranged to meet a date at this place under the assumption that it was quiet, comfy, and with romantic ambience. In reality it was extremely loud with obnoxious music, had terribly uncomfortable seating of old torn apart theater chairs, way overpriced wine, and we had to practically yell into each others ear to be heard. This was a huge disappointment.

I recommend happy hour at the Sitting Room to everyone I meet. You would never just run into it, since it's set back on the west side of Roy Street. But it's really a unique venue in Seattle. Happy hour goes until 7 pm which is uncommonly extensive for happy hour sessions around here. I'm a wine and small plates person, and the Sitting Room is ideal for that. They have a nice wine list, but I usually stick with the house wine at happy hour prices (both the red and white are quite tasty). I have to agree with others in this reviews section that they have one of the best cheese plates...every cheese they offer is quite different from the other so you get a really varied selection. If you want some choice nibbles without spending too much, the olives, cheese plate, smoked salmon plate and tapenade are very satisfying. They have a nice array of salads and several other options on their appetizers menu. The room is spacious with a European air without being at all pretentious. The wait staff has always been very inviting and considerate. I've never had a bad experience with service there, and I've been there a number of times, as it's my top-choice neighborhood happy hour spot.

The Sitting Room is very nicely-named because it's seriously like my living room, I'm so at home and comfortable there. Bright and airy. with comfy seats and not-too-expensive drinks and food. I come for happy hour and never want to leave.

Pros: Parking lot (rare for Queen Anne), lovely cocktails, amazing cheese plate

I absolutely love this place, girls night out or a romantic date you can't go wrong. No where in Seattle can you find friendlier wait staff, a casual yet romantic atmosphere paired with very fine dining! The cucumber martini is full of flavor and great on a hot summer night out on their open candle lit porch. The food in innovative and the wine list is fairly good and reasonably priced. The only down fall is the parking, $3 across the street in the lot is worth it!

i have gone to the sitting room the 2 times in recent weeks, both times on dates and I have been so delighted by the atmosphere, service, and elegance of the bar.
The bar is not pretentious, instead it is both laid back and high class. The service was first-rate--attentive, yet not fussy or fake.
I enjoyed a delicious brazilian caipiruva, a salad with organic bacon and bleu cheese, and deliciously rich chocolate cake delicately drizzled with raspberry sauce and adorned with a fluff of freshly whipped cream.

The sitting room had a decent beer list, but I would love to see more variety and more changes, it has been the same beer list for a long time. Change is good and keeps thing interesting. Cozy little spot that is fun to stop in for a app and drinks. Parking is terrible. The staff is not the nicest and they can make you feel uncomfortable. Most of the time it seems that they don't want to deal with you. The staff has been a big factor in us not going there more often.

The Sitting Room offers an classy ambiance for those of us in Queen Anne who want to enjoy a nice glass of wine or a beer but avoid the hectic bar scene. In addition, the place features a small menu and their sandwiches aren't half bad. The best thingabout the place is the windowed garage door that they open in nice weather.

The menu says 3 selections of cheese, but it's sometimes 4 and they rotate the selections regularly. The Wine Salami & Cornichons w/ the cheese plate can easily serve as a meal for 3-4 people. Plus it matches perfectly w/ the drink menu!
The leader I would have to say is the Pomegranate Mojito...but being a traditonal gal, I love their dirty martini (or on special occasion the Framboise Martini). 1/2 carafe of house wine is ALWAYS a good bet.
Love this place!

I have been going to The Sitting Room over the past few weeks, and I feel like I could curl up into a little ball I'm so cozy and comfortable. The wait staff is right there when you need something, but doesn't hover so that you feel like you're being watched. Oh, and their pomegranate mojito is AWESOME. So chill, yet so chic. Great music mix, and not to noisy or crowded! I love it and recommend it to all of my friends!

We recently moved to the Queen Anne neighborhood, and have recently discovered this hidden gem! The Sitting Room is tucked away on West Roy in the On the Boards Performance Arts Center. Its pale orange fresco-like walls, candlelit marble tables, sultry electronic beats, and antique zinc bar create a European cafe/bar ambiance unlike any place we've ever seen in Seattle. They recently began serving cocktails; which are highly recommended, especially the Basiica and the Chartreuse Cocktail. The food is very good too, and reasonably priced. We found the service both friendly and relaxed. Looking forward to our next visit!

Having come there for a lite bite and dessert, we were very pleased with the fig salad and cornichons appetizers. When we arrived we asked about when the kitchen would close and were told it was closing in about an hour. We specificially told our server that we were there for dessert but then the service was so slow we almost missed it as we were told again that the kitchen would be closing soon. (I felt a little underserved at this point) Dessert was very dissappointing. There was a chocolate ganache cake on the menu board, but the server asked if we could substitute for a molten chocolate cake. It turned out tasting like it was made from a mix. The pear tart was very bland and textureless. I hope the desserts are improved because I think Seattle needs a good dessert and drinks spot.

What a find! I felt like I was in the Bastille in Paris - a nice blend of cool, French bistro without the pretentiousness you might expect from a place like this on Queen Anne. Great service, creative menu, and a nice, tight, well thought-out wine list. Perfect date restaurant.
