ok, i read the review from seattlenewbie and i totally understand what happened. I think a little explanation is in order. For many years Traveller's has been THE best source for herbs, clothing, books, and other miscellanities of life elsewhere on the planet. The owner has spent a lot of time in India, but other parts of asia, as well as south america and the Caribbean are represented.

People come to Traveller's for their chai, which is among the best i've ever tasted. Definitely the best in Seattle. They've recently expanded their services and are now offering a full thalia served traditionally every weekend. As cool as this is, it's caused some trouble.

Adjusting to being a part-time restaurant has been difficult and many of the staff and ownership have found themselves overextended. I've noticed that the usual friendliness sometimes gives way to impatience now, but please try to understand. These are great people trying to do something that's not easy. I'm sure once everyone's adjusted to the new set up it will return to the friendly place it's always been.

Sorry you caught them on a bad day Seattlenewbie, here's hoping your next experience there is a good one :D

Arrogance or a just bad day? I went in recently to buy some spices. Instead of the warm and friendly atmosphere that has earned Travelers its reputation, I got a cold vibe from the staff. There was no eye contact or greeting from Leon and the rest of the staff members made themselves appear busy. Although an attendant helped me find an item, it seemed apparent that I had bothered them by walking into their store that evening. I asked the attendant if they carried a particular Indian snack, and she in turn asked Leon. His response? A dismissive equivalent of a duh, everything they had was out there. Not even their great chai could help me overcome this taste of bad service. Truth be told, there are other locales in the Greater Seattle area that carry twice as many items at half the cost of Travelers. I've supported the establishment because I applaud Leon and Allen's initiative, knowledge, and taste. But I wonder if complacency is making Travelers arrogant or if it was just a bad day at this Capitol Hill spice store. I'd love to be wrong on this one.

Travelers Tea Bar is one of the most amazing Indian stores I have been to. It's a great combination of a tea cafe, restaurant, book store, appareal store and a jewellery store. You could spend couple hours easily here. Highly recommended.

There are definitely more than one Indian gift shop in Seattle area, but Travelers is the most unique I have ever been to. It's not really just a gift shop - they also have lots of things you might not expect, like chai and books, etc. The prices are good, and the atmosphere is really nice. It's a very interesting place to check out!

Very nice store tucked away in Capitol Hill in unassuming store-front. Large selection of middle eastern and indian wares including clothing, incense, music, foods, art, etc. There is definitely something here for everyone. Sales staff is super friendly and personable. Also can sit here and have a spot of tea while you enjoy conversations with strangers.

Very highly reccomended. Always come here when I visit seattle and load up on really great, really cheap incense. They also have essential oils which are better than ANY perfume you can get in a store. Why smell like J.Lo when you can smell...unique?

I'm not really into the clothing or jewerly at Travelers, but have to admit, it is a great place for herbs. It is so much cheaper to get them by the ounce or pound here then to buy tea bags in the store. Plus then you can try mixing herbs to get the flavor and result you want! Oh, and you also try their Chai when you're in there!

Travelers has always been a great store for anyone who is looking for worldly items to decorate their home, or if you're spiritually inclined, from India or just fascinated with all things India. But now that they've expanded, it's twice as nice. You can find books, cds, dvds, jewelry, supplements, art and clothing. Which is to say nothing of their selection of Indian foods. My most recent Travelers discovery: they've got a chai counter in there. Their chai is one of the best kept secrets in town. It tastes great and it's cheap too.

PROS: Their occasional special events are worth checking out!
CONS:
