The Scene
Styrofoam still reigns, as does strawberry Fanta, the Jets and hunks of delicious meat sold by the pound. Service is slow and occasionally surly, but true barbecue believers would be suspicious of anything less. It's a family affair and Milt himself, or one of his relatives, takes orders, dishes up food, and then checks to make sure the plate is licked clean.

The Food
The rolls, piled high with tender, smoky chicken, beef or pork and served dripping with Milt's tangy mild sauce, are addictive and the extra-hot sauce has been known to make construction workers cry. Tender baby back ribs and chicken wings make for the best kind of messy eating. Add some soothing sides of creamy potato salad, slaw and corn bread and it's on. But definitely save room for a tin of buttery pecan pie or warm peach cobbler topped with vanilla ice cream.

Key Points

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - If you like Milt's sauce, take it home--it's sold at the counter.
  2. Know Before You Go - Milt's is open on Sundays by appointment or for catering only.

Such awesome food

by RJ B.

THIS! Is the place to go to if you want some great BBQ.

My friends had a birthday party there and Milt was the best. The ribs are the best. I'd eat there every day if I could!! Great food, great atmosphere.

Milt is friendly and funny and his food is great

by Michelle Q. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 503

I admit that I don't go to Milt's often enough, but when I do go he always gives me a bad time (and I reciprocate), which I love. The food is good quality. I usually get the barbecue chicken sandwich. He has good sides and desserts as well. Janet Jackson was his former neighbor and he has an autographed picture of her on the wall, as well as local celebrities. This is a good place to go with the family or to get take-out.

I truly enjoyed the baby back ribs and the peach cobbler was like my mother's.

by salsal1

This was my first time eating food from Milt's BBQ and I was impressed with the quality and quanity of my meal. I ordered take out and the food arrived hot and ready to consume. The appearance of the food was inviting as it was delicious. I placed my order with Milt and he was very charming over the phone he took my order very patiently. I was unsure of what to order since this was my first time, Milt made some wonderful suggestions that I was very pleased with.
Being single I frequent resturants and I'm always looking for a new spot, I have found one at Milt's. Thanks Milt's I will come in person next time and bring some of my hungry friends.

THE BEST BAR-B-QUE PULLED BEEF HOTLINK SANDWICHES AROUND!!

by dh83

Hands Down !!, Milt's has the best bar-b-que pulled beef hotlink sandwiches around.. I drive all the way from Tacoma, Wa. atleast once or twice a month to get my fix of Milt's..

Pros: THUMBS UP ON ALL

Not a lot of options on the East Side for BBQ

by masondw

For sake of having little options, one could understand why Milt's is so crowded. However, none of the food stands out as spectacular and, after drinks and dessert, it is not cheap. Chicken was better than the hot links (which were not much more than smothered hot dogs) and all the sides were bland. The peach cobbler was overly hot and tasteless. The staff is friendly but I will just cross the water next time I need BBQ.

Pros: good menu items

Cons: blandness of food

Like Milt, Not So Much The Food

by sjpatrick

I wanted to like this place, I really did. Milt was such a nice guy and so down home, so I was predisposed to it. But the food was fatty, the sauce was unimaginative and bland, and the sides were ordinary. Worst, the BBQ had none of the zingy, sweet smokiness of 3 Pigs and was a tad overcooked. I'm a North Carolinian, so I'm picky but it just wasn't anything special. Milt, I'm sorry.

Pros: Milt, parking, comfy place

Cons: FOOD

Best Barbque in Washington!!!

by kpl16253

Great food. Nice, friendly owner & staff.
I drive all the way from Stanwood, about 50 miles, once to twice a month.
Great "to go" packages.
I love the barbque beef, the jumbalaya, gumbo. Also worth the taste are Milt's
catfish, hush-puppies & greens.
You can't go wrong at Milt's.

Best on the Eastside -- maybe

by confwriter

Beginning a search for the best BBQ in the Northwest: Milt's is tucked into a Redmond strip mall. The slaw was flavorful. The pulled pork sandwich was juicy, the sauce sweet with a hint of brown sugah, not quite enough meat for the bun. I -- unlike my companion -- like saucy meats, it it was good for me (although the meat was a little lost in goo). The "D*mn Hot" sauce was just right... flavor-filled with a burn. At $19 for two 'wiches, 3 sides (2 free, one extra), a little pricey for Q... but still good enough to go back. We're also thinkin' part of the ambiance is the owner -- does he talk with you?! Milt engaged us goin' in, and we had some laughs... but I always like someone who says "see ya again"; guess I'll have to go back! Surprisingly uncrowded!

Pros: Lots of seating, good banter with Milt, good sauce

Cons: sterile inside, no music, nobody said "see ya!"

Save your money!!

by shizznitty

My girlfriend & I recently went to Milt's & the experience was very unsatisfactory!!! The baby back ribs had virtually no meat on them whatsoever & the beef short ribs had a "freezer-burn" taste to them! I was very disappointed because I really like Milt - he was a great guy! And I would rather support a local small business owner than go to Tony Roma's etc for my BBQ cravings. But after this experience there is no way I can ever go back -the food was that bad & that expensive.

Cons: , Average Food at best

Now You're Talking Bar-b-que

by icontadino

Milt may be an eccentric ol' cus, but then, that's his charm, and part of what brings you back. Unlike that other bbq joint down the road, Milt's meats are NOT chock full of big chunks of fat, and his sauce... mmm....mmmmmm! (especially the hot stuff)
His side dishes are good. The beans and rice, not spicey enough for someone who has true Cajun friends. And, you've got to have one of those pecan or key lime pies.

Better than Dixies

by stevencotton

The meat and sauce are superior, plus the parking and lines are better. Gene Porter is nice enough, but Milt is nicer.

DOWN HOME EXCELLENCE!

by kimbb

We loved the BBQ at Milts! I had the beef brisket (tender, thick slices for dinner, and tender thin slices for the sandwiches). My husband had the ribs and thought they were very good. We will *definitely* go again.

Pros: inexpensive, delicious food, friendly atmosphere

Cons: no black eyed peas, no mashed potatoes, only sandwiches at 12

Yummy

by wileykyley

Milt's has great food with great atmosphere! Vegitarians? Ask for TVP (Textured Vegie Protien) Great with a bit of BBQ Sauce. Nice atmosphere with plenty of parking and Hot Sauce not just HOT but full of great flavor! Milt is a little slow so don't go if your in a hurry! (You can't rush the cook)

Just the way I like it!

by bankcraft

Of the few really good BBQ joints in the region (and there are precious few) Milt's is one of the best. Great BBQ. Good side orders. Slow during the lunch rush, but excellent service after the crunch.

Unwelcome

by skeeterthemook

Unwelcome is how I would sum up how I felt walking into Milt's, and it didn't get any better after that. The food is middle of the road BBQ and a bit of a let down. I have had great BBQ, but it was not at Milt's.
Sorry Milt!

Pros: Good Parking

Cons: ATTITUDE, Food

Try the hot sauce!

by rocher

I love Milt's BBQ, especially with the hot sauce the owner makes. It's actually really hot and goes wonderfully with the BBQ. I usually get coleslaw, but I've heard a lot of people say the potato salad is the best one they've ever had.

Pros: not for sissies, great taste

Cons: not for sissies

Don't believe the Dixie's hype

by jerkyjake

Far better food, plus you don't have to wait over half and hour to get lunch out of "the armpit of 405" as Milt would put it. That is, if you can get a parking spot at all at Dixie's. Milt's is also open past 4, so you can get dinner.

What happened? The place is falling apart.

by spankmehard

Around five years back I was amazed by tasty BBQ at Milt?s, my recent visit was very surprising: both the environment and food have gone downhill. When I first walked in I noticed that the restaurant was lacking TLC and organization. The lighting was dim due to light bulbs needing replacement. Papers and supplies were scattered about the last two tables near the back. All of the tables and seats were a bit dirty (crumbs), and had to be wiped off before use. The path to the restroom has walls with stacks of supplies piled on top of each other. The restaurant seriously is in desperate need of updating and organization. THE FOOD WAS SUPRISINGLY DISSAPPOINTING. All of the meats were so bland and didn?t have much zing to them. The bread wasn?t warm and fresh. The sides looked like a small sample of microwaved leftovers. The spicy BBQ sauce is still good. Two bland sandwiches with two feeble sides for $20? The sign outside says ?awarded best BBQ at Bite of Seattle 2001.? The quality has gone downhill and Milt needs some serious help with his restaurant.

Cons: Over priced, messy & unclean environment, maintenance needed

Cooked slow, service slower.

by jayheg

We called for a pick-up order that was to be picked up in 20 minutes. 50 minutes later, we finally got our order. We were the only people waiting for food at 6:30 on a Thursday night. The food has ribs had a decent flavor but are $13/lb. I don't know about you, but it doesn't take much for this guy to go through a lb. of ribs. Most full racks for baby backs are near two lbs. You do the math. The sliced beef was tougher than leather, slathered with sauch. I'm not going back.

Damn Hot

by don_cornholio

Milt has the best bbq anywhere.
When I first started going to Milt's I knew I was in bbq heaven. After several rounds with his tasty hot sauce I finally built up a tolerance. So Milt kept turning up the heat for me as needed. You can go to other bbq restaurants if you want hot sauce, but Milt's hot sauce actually taste good, (not like burnt plastic like you get at the other places)
If you really think you can take it ask Milt for some of the spicy Katsup he keeps behind the counter.

Pros: tasty, great service, hot as you can take

Not too many BBQs like this around

by oscarln

Definitely one of the better BBQ hangout I've been at in the area. Can't beat their sauce. I'd have to try em at my own BBQ. Try it out sometime and you'll find out why.

Pros: Great food, Good parking, Inexpensive

Cons: Ugly strip mall

Great BBQ!!!

by tasterschoice

Classic southern bbq. Haven't found another bbq restuarant in the greater puget sound area with a tastier sauce. Favorites of mine include: Pulled pork sandwich, Ribs (smoked), and on rare occasions the catfish.
