Treat special need customers with some damn respect! I have never been more disgusted to hear that not only were the employees at this restaurant rude because my girlfriends son was in a wheelchair but the z,anger was even more

All but one experience here was excellent and I am willing to go ahead and call the one bad time a total fluke. Been going here for 6 years and take all of my out of town guests here if we're looking for a good dinner out.

Love the calzones, especially the formaggio and the clucker. They used to have awesome manicotti but for some reason took it off the menu. Also, awesome salads and great hummus.

They have a really decent happy hour for a small local place.

Only bad time I was here involved a cockroach-resembling bug being smashed by the waiter with that black case the check comes in after the meal. Then he left the cockroach on the table as well as our check. It was very awkward but I don't think that guy works there anymore. Plus, like I said, this place is so good that I really just didn't care two months later when I was dying for good Italian.

The customer service is pretty good too. Also, I love all of the old pictures of the u-district on the walls. Good beers on tap usually, though they're small so the selection is minimal.

Love this place

When I ordered calzone at Varlamos I had no idea that it would be the size of a football. For less than $10 I had salad and a giant calzone filled with ricotta, spinach, garlic, red peppers and mozzarella. It is easy to find just what you like at this restaurant as they have "build your own" pizza, pasta, calzone, and sub sandwiches in addition to many house specias. The food and the service were both very good!

Their calzones, which are literally footbal sized and served with a side salad for under $10, are hard to beat. On Mondays they have a special and the Calzone is only 5.95, but it is quite busy and getting them can take up to 20 mins (busier when the UW is in session also.) The restaurant is well equipped to handle large groups. The service has always been top-notch. The on tap beer selection is decent. I've had some of their other dishes also, the grilled chicken salad is quite good, the cheese bread is yummy as an appetizer.

Pros: Huge Calzones, Friendly Service

Cons: Busy on Monday, No Parking

The calzones are good, and so is the grilled chicken salad (tons of chicken!). I rarely eat in though, because of the powerful aroma of old bleach buckets wafting through the dining room. I prefer to get take-out. Other people don't seem to mind much, though. They have a huge dining area and are kid friendly. Gets crowded on Monday nights, and after little league/kids soccer games.

Pros: good deals, food is decent

Cons: wafting odor=yuck!

Most of the time I get their pizza to go, but sometimes I do sit in. They remodeled not too long ago to add on an additional room. It's a real neighborhood place. Families eating dinner and college kids from nearby UW. Like I said, I love their pizza. It's pretty much the opposite of Pagliacci's... in a good way! Lots of cheese, excellent sauce and a soft, chewy crust. My favorite is cheese and Canadian bacon. Their pastas are also really good, and so are their famous "football-sized" calzones (which you can also buy frozen at Metropolitan Market).

I love Varlamos ... I've never had anything I didn't like there, and I've had most things on the menu. Plus, they'll make anything you like if they have the ingredients.

My picks: chicken salad, mini-pizza, calzones ... great place!
