My furry pups get a half raw, half grain-free kibble diet, and I've been buying my kibble from Natural Pet NW for a couple years now. No more. I was in there for 5 minutes 2 days ago and that was long enough to overhear the one of the sales clerks give out 2 terrible pieces of misinformation.

1) A customer came in who had a dog with cancer & it was undergoing chemotherapy. He wanted to know if there was anything they carried that would be good for his dog. Clerk asked him what food he fed, and then told him that grain "feeds" cancer so he should switch to a grain-free dog food. What malarky. Grain feeds cancer, huh? I don't think so. Yes, obviously I think grain-free and raw diets are the way to go for dogs, but making claims like that just ruined any credibility of the sales staff.

2) Lady came in asking what dog treats had the least sugar, and mentioned giving carrots to her dog. The clerk told her that she shouldn't give her dog carrots because they turn into sugar, that instead the customer should give her dog SWEET POTATO, which Natural Pet NW just happened to sell dried slices of. Again, terrible misinformation. Per ounce, carrots have 1 gram carbs and 1 gram sugar.... sweet potato has 27 grams of carbs and 6 grams sugar.

The sales clerk was giving out this advice right in front of the store's owner, and the owner didn't correct the sales clerk at all. I'm guessing the owner has coached the staff to say these sorts of things.

I am extremely picky about what I give my dogs, I want only the best for them, and Natural Pet NW carries a wide variety of great treats and food for reasonable prices (their beds, cat perches & toys are $$$ though). But those far-fetched health claims have got to stop. I simply can't support a business who engages in "Snake Oil Salesman" practices in order to make a sale.

This is a great place if you are taking the natural route for feeding your pet. They have many foods and pet products that are holistic and more healthy. Because it is natural the prices are a little more expensive than average pet food but it is worth it if you want the best ingredients and products.

In the years I have shopped here, I have been dazzled by the wide array of great (albeit expensive) foods, the wonderful products for our furry (or not) friends, and the normally pleasant staff. But in the last 6 months, I have noticed a real disdain for a customers feelings if you choose to use prescriptions rather than devote your every free moment, and extra dollar, to trying "all natural" treatments. Although for most of us, pets are part of the family, we sometimes do not have the bandwidth we wish we did, and to keep them comfortable, and ourselves sane, we rely on medical intervention. I appreciate their enthusiam for the natural path, but suggest strongly that they don't alienate their customer base. I have started just NOT talking to them. :-(

What a pleasure to find a small, locally owned pet store that
clearly cares about animals. The owner took a lot of time to help us with food choices (she let our dog try some samples because we live a good distance away) and toys and chews without added chemicals and preservatives. This is our new pet store!

The staff here was friendly and knew their stuff! I needed some food for my pug with a wheat allergy. The employee quickly suggested a few different types of brands that are suitable for her.
The food was a little spendy but she's a little dog so a little food went a LONG way. After a month of being on their food her coat got shinier (yes a shiny pug!) and considerably softer!
This place is great for special needs and good foods. I wouldn't go their to buy doggie toys that are much cheaper at Walmart or another chain store.
They also have frequent buyer incentives.

PROS: Great dog foods
CONS: High prices but worth it on some items

If you want to treat your dog right, shop here for its food. The worst food they have here is better than the best food anywhere else. The worst food they have here is twice as expensive as the best food anywhere else. But your dog is worth it, right?

PROS: Great products
CONS: Expensive

Natural Pet is a relatively large shop in a strip mall that welcomes your leashed pet. They specialize in natural, healthful, and expensive pet products--you won't find Kibbles n Bits for sale here. The sales staff are very friendly and will likely regale you with stories of their own pets (one of the owners brings her three gorgeous Boxers to work with her). They are very knowledgable and happy to recommend the right food for overweight Fido or hair-ball coughing Princess. I buy all of my dog's food at Natural Pet, but buy the toys at the typical chain pet store places to save some bucks.
