I have no idea what day care center the negative reviewer is describing. Not only is the Gingerbread House open from 6am -6pm, but they go out of their way to arrive a little early to accomodate military employees who must be at work by 6:30. The center has been open that early since my kids attended about eight years ago, and even now that my nieces are enrolled at this center.

My nieces are in the before and after school program, they love hanging out in the "clubhouse." The elementary school aged kids are in their own separate building, so they don't feel like babies, and aren't surrounded by kids in diapers. My sister loves the program, because she can drop her girls off early, and get to work on time. Her girls get breakfast at the center, they provide transportation to and from school and after school, the girls get a chance to play, have a snack, and get most of their homework done by the time my sister picks them up at 5:30. My experience at the center was exactly the same, and that is why I insisted that my sister take her girls to the gingerbread house.

Besides the large playgrounds, the center has very big indoor rooms, allowing the kids some room to move on days when the weather is awful. Also the individual classrooms are also spacious, so there is room for active play.

Unlike other centers I've visited, the director is the owner, and truly cares about children AND families. I have seen her in deep conversations with some very frazzled looking parents. Everyday as we left the director would always say "have a great evening my good kids" or "good bye my darlings" to my son and daughter. My kids still call each other "darling." Little things like that really do make a big difference.
Regarding discipline, when my son was having trouble staying focused at homework time, the teacher and director both spoke to my son and I in private. They described how his behavior was making it difficult for other kids to listen to the teacher and get their homework done. We put together a system to keep track of good days and bad. Good days were rewarding with a little prize, like a sticker or something from the director's treasure chest. That put an end to the homework time troubles.

Staff retention is amazing for child care. My nieces have some of the same teachers that my kids had. The staff really works together to make the Gingerbread house such a great place for kids to thrive.

The center offers a huge children's library and encourages kids to grab a book and read, instead of plugging in to a computer. Early literacy skills are incorporated in the curriculum.

There are several generations of families at this center, which is a testament to the quality of care.

It's not easy leaving your kids in the morning, going to work and not seeing them again until the evening. The peace of mind I had when my kids attended this center was priceless. I was able to go to work, focus on my job without constantly worrying about my kids. I would recommend the Gingerbread House Day Care and Preschool without reservation to anyone.

Not only have both my girls been going to Gingerbread House since they could walk, (now 5 and 10yrs) but I also went to this daycare when I was a child. The staff here is very personable and friendly. I would not choose to bring my kids to any other daycare because the feeling in this establishment is one of genuine love and caring, which is the hardest thing to find. It's easy to see that not only do they care about each child, but whole families. They are very accomadating to our family's schedule also. I haven't had anything but great experiences with the Gingerbread House.

I have had my kids go here for years b/c there is no other daycare that goes to Southgate elementary school. This daycare has been going down hill esp in the last year. Making me actually drive my kids to school everyday so they wouldn't have to go here. The staff doesn't care what your kids do, yells at kids, and also has had kids bully and pick on my kids and not do anything about it. Causing me kids to never want to attend this daycare center and be very unhappy. One of my kids was bullied daily and the bully was never in trouble or kicked out of the daycare center when this was a common occurence. One of my children has been treated poorly and made fun of and the staff doesn't care or do anything to the children that don't follow rules. I would have not had my kids go there this long if there was another daycare to this school. They pick up kids from school and they will not transport the kids to school in the morning making it very difficult to find employment with the day care hours. Also the snow days they will not pick up the kids from school and will tell you to pick up your kids from the daycare early. I have not been able to take various job offers due to this daycare and hours ie can't work 7-4 b/c the daycare wont take your kids b/c wont transport them but other ones are open 6:00am-6:00pm kids go to school at 8 so there is no morning services. Also they barely let kids outside to play thus the kids get no excerise and used to have summer activities and have cancelled them. This daycare is horrible. This daycare is so bad that I wish I was a stay at home mom instead of a single parent I have no one else to watch my kids and it made me feel guilty to go to work and leave them in this horrible day care center. I had numerous calls to the daycare referral line to find another daycare to thier school with no success. This daycare is so bad that I have transferred my kids to another school to not attend this daycare center.Wish there where more providers in this low income area. Someone would have a very successful daycare if they opened one in the area that was better than this one.Very happy spending more gas money to drive them to another school and better daycare that is actually watches your kids instead of just being in the room with them. My kids are very happy going to a new school and a daycare with caring providers, a no bully policy, before and after childcare of better hours so I can keep employment, So I would never refer this daycare to anyone. Ever! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!

Gingerbread House Day Care is a very good day care for lower income families. They will also pick your kids up from school. Many of my family members have gone here. The staff is wonderful.

My two brothers and I practically grew up at the gingerbread house. I love the care givers and still know them now 8 years later. They are amazing with kids and very trust-worthy, I'd recommend them to any full-time working parents with pre-school aged kids.
