4 Stars: wonderful (by cpyoung)

Good value. There were four in our party with dinner for everyone (we were all quite full) two bottles of wine and 2 beers our check was only $180. The only drawback I saw was since it was our first time we were a tiny bit afraid of what the bill was going to be because there was no menu and the food kept coming and coming. Food is simple, fresh, rustic...good. Service was wonderfully slow paced, non-intrusive & polite. Being able to enjoy dinner on the patio on a warm Seattle night was the biggest plus for me.

5 Stars: Excellent Atmosphere, great entertainment and food! (by Sailmoe)

I have been going to Pasta Freska for over 6 years now. It is my favorite place to dine in seattle. It is a wonderful hole in the wall where the book really doesn't fit the cover. You will be delightfully surprised at the wonderful dishes that Mike has come up with. His wine selection is also one of the best in town and is low in price! On top of everything you can't beat hanging out with Mike in his restuarant. You seriously get a show with dinner! I highly recommend to anyone who is wanting an unforgettable dining experience.

4 Stars: Boat Tour and Great food (by Stephen B.)

I took my girlfriend on their Lake Union boat tour for valentines day and we had a great time. From the moment we got there we were greeted with a smile, a glass of wine and some appetizers. They didn't stop bringing out food for literally hours and each entree was as mouth watering as the last. The boat tour of the lake was romantic as well but the food was definitely the highlight.

5 Stars: Great experience - fun & tasty every time (by lproper)

Pasta Freska is my husband's and my favorite place to go for any reason we can manufacture. Yes, it's not fancy, but without fail the service is friendly and professional, the wine is great, and Josh, the chef, is happy to make special "veggie" dishes that are delicious (as is everything). Mike (the owner) is great - what's not to love about walking in and having the owner hand you a glass of chianti while you wait a few minutes for a table.

If you haven't been here, it's a great place to take out of town guests for a treat that they will tell everyone else in your family about....

5 Stars: You're in good hands (by rerantz)

I have heard about Pasta Freska over the years, and have always been intrigued by the idea of a restaurant without a menu. After being reminded of this place on the radio one day I decided that I'd take my wife out there for her birthday. We went in with open minds and an empty stomach which is highly recommended. Our reservations were for 6pm and the restaurant was fairly empty, but it fills up quick with quite the wait when we left. The atmosphere is casual and cozy. Be prepared for an outgoing experience as the owner/chef is very friendly and eager to tell you about the dining experience. After a round of asking us what we don't like to eat we were greeted with a bottle of wine, and just had to sit back and watch the food come in. To start we had a round of the signature eggplant appetizer. Even if you don't like eggplant it's a must try. To follow we had a delicious italian salad and bread, pasta, halibut, prawns, tortellini, and an amazing stuffed marsala chicken breast to finish off the dinner. If you have room for dessert I'd recommend it because the dessert platter is worth it. The big question mark coming in was the bill and we were pleasantly surprised. I felt for the amount of food, wine, and dessert it was very reasonable. We're definitely excited to try it again.

5 Stars: FOOD FROM THE GODS (by Jessie B.)

As I opened the door I was greeted by a warm hello, a hug, and a kiss on the cheek. And my Grandma and Grandpa had only just met you a few days before. I knew straight away that I was going to have a good dinner even if the food wasn't good I knew that the service would be. There was a lot of food and I was horrified when I could not finish all of the wonderful mouthwatering food. The restaurant was not big at all, but that didnt stop me from thinking that I was in heaven, and an angel named Mike Horri was serving me food made by the Gods. I know that seems impossible I thought so to before I ate at Pasta Freska. I know that I'm only 11 years old, but I believe that Pasta Freska deserves millions and millions of awards. I don't think I will ever taste food as great as the food that I had that night for the rest of my life, and I still have a long time to go yet.

5 Stars: I didn't even like Italian food! (by findinggoodfood)

The food here is sooooooo good. Wasn't my idea to go and is kinda a hole in the wall but food is amazing! Go with an open mind. The owner is very nice and I raved to people for days after eating here. Just let him bring you food and you will feel like your in heaven for the two hours you are there. I signed up to city search just to rave this restaurant. I will bring many here.

5 Stars: Unique and Tasty (by dale919)

It's little unsettling to have your meal chosen for you. Let the food set you free. Be prepared to spend 2 to 3 hours on a leisurely meal of several courses, wine, and conversation. The good food, the positive vibe, and the conversation with the owner/chef makes for a refreshing fare. The important thing is to let yourself go with the flow. If you are extremely controlling you will not enjoy this experience.

1 Stars: Average at best and too expensive for Average (by dweezilz)

It looks like it tastes, average at best.
For the dry chicken marsala and chicken parmesan and the remainder of the pre determined menu, it was not worth the price we were charged.
It also would have been nice if the price of the meal and the wine would have been mentioned up front.
Additionally, a "sampler" was provided, that wasn't mentioned, and that we were charged additional for.
Poor communication, too many unspoken assumptions, too much push without enough choice. Even in Italy were there are many prefix meals, there is still some choice.

4 Stars: Great Food, if you have 3 Hours to spare (by thebrutusbear)

I read all the reviews before going and was still amazed by the food....twice! Chef Mike was great the first time and the second time, a younger (i'm assuming apprentice) did just as well. The much-maligned service is definitely not meant for the where's-my-food-i-want-it-now crowd but if you're planning on a slow evening to enjoy with family & friends, this is the place to go. The meal + dessert + drinks + tips = $35-40/person, a little pricey but worth the experience. Another reviewer was spot-on; although the dinner is menu-less, Chef Mike definitely has his standard dishes (eggplant appetizer anyone?) but you won't hear complaints from me. The decor/ambience didn't match the $ but suited the friendly and personable chef.

5 Stars: orchid1 is a moron!!! (by robluvski)

Pasta Freska is great. Anyone who wants to exploit a technicality to get a two dollar meal probably doesn't see the light of day in the middle of the day. Get a clue freeloader! Just because you're right, doesn't remotely suggest you should.

Now for the review. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere a refreshing change. Sure there are fine Italian dining establishments in Seattle that will satisfy anyone, orchid1 wouldn't be allowed in the area, let alone in the door. Way to go chef Mike! A unique and winning formula!

Thank you for many great meals! Rob Miller <<< real name :)

1 Stars: The owner/chef is friendly - IF - you spend what he believes is a (by orchid1)

This ended up being the rudest dining experience we've ever had. Mike, the owner/chef was friendly at first, sitting down with us to discuss our likes and dislikes for dinner. I felt that this in-your-face "best buddy" technique seemed fake and it made me uncomfortable. My instinct about that rang true later on. Everything seemed like a sell, as he offered us wine and salads. We ordered a pizza only, which was basically what we came in for anyway. He told us it would be $12.00 for a medium. The male server we had was quick and friendly. He seemed genuine and nice. The pizza was great, although I felt it had too much black pepper sprinkled on the crust or in the sauce. That kind of put a damper on it for me. The toppings were plentiful, however. I had a $10.00 Restaurant dot com gift certificate printed for this restaurant, which is how I even heard about them. I wanted to try this place. On Restaurant dot com, Pasta Freska is one of the affiliated restaurants and there weren't any stipulations in order to use the certificate. Most eateries on that site require a purchase of $30.00+. I made sure I followed the rules of the certificate. When I presented it to the owner/chef, he looked down at it and told us that he didn't know whether he could accept it or not, as he would "only be making $2.00" off of our meal. When I calmly and politely said that I made sure I followed the rules of use, he crumpled up the printed certificate and told us that it's ok and that he "didn't need to make any money" off us as he walked away abruptly. We sat there dumbfounded with our mouths open, not knowing what to do. On our way out, we offered to pay the $2.00 +tax, but he told me that we insulted and disrespected his restaurant. When I reminded him that the certificate didn't have requirements (his fault), he said that he assumed his customers would respect him to order enough food so he could make some money. Very rude & unprofessional. Will not ever return.

5 Stars: Pasta Freska is great for parties and other events too! (by kjoman)

I have eaten at Pasta Freska on many occasions and have treated many friends and family to this fantastic restaurant, all of whom have been simply delighted. There are many reviews on this place but I'd like to add that it is also a great place to hold a party or even a benefit as was held for me a few weeks ago. I am a freelance photographer (read no employer, limited insurance), recently recovering from cancer surgery and chemotherapy. My sister decided to throw a benefit auction for me and picked Pasta Freska for the event. She worked very closely with the owner, Mike Horri, and the event turned out better than anyone could have expected. The atmosphere was upbeat, fun, and Mike and his staff took it up several notches more with the wonderful service and food. Many people had never been or heard of Pasta Freska previously and they had the time of their lives with all their senses fulfilled - great food, drink, and Mike was ever the charmer, as usual. My normally reserved father told Mike he loved him the first time he ate at Pasta Freska.

Not only do I recommend Pasta Freska in a 'normal' situation, but give Mike the opportunity for your next party or big event and he will far surpass your expectations. Thank you, Mike, and your staff too, for making this special night such a success.

5 Stars: Tasty food, Fun vibe. (by mattho)

I love this place.

The tables are placed close together but it doesn't seem crowded. There is only a tiny waiting area in the front, we got there a bit late so we had to wait a few min. no big deal the wine helped pass the time.

Mike (the owner) personally takes care of his guests, making sure you wine glass is never empty and that everyone is having a great time.

The close seating, and small space make for a noisy bustling atmosphere that sort of enhance the whole experience. Keep in mind Pasta Freska isn't a quaint reserved "romantic" place. This is your drunk uncle Larry?s hang out where everyone comes to eat great food in excess and allow themselves be happy.

The main reason I went the first time is that I am tired of going to restaurants and having to choose one item out of the 7 or 8 that sound really good, problem solved! No menu's, bring on the food.

Right now, this is my top pick in the area for bring folks who are visiting from out of town.

Stop putting it off?..just go.

5 Stars: What an experience! (by whitefishmt)

My wife and I went to Pasta Freska a few nights ago, on the recommendation of a friend. We were expecting something very good, but the reality was extraordinary!

Mike and his staff were gracious, attentive, personable, and professional, in a very casual and friendly way. The food was simply incredible. I'm a vegetarian, my wife eats seafood and no other meat. Mike made us a meal to remember for a lifetime, while taking the constraints into account. Our meal was incredible, the wine his staff selected was excellent, and dessert was to die for!

I'm not sure where the bad reviews I'm seeing as to service come from, for we were watched over carefully, but not obtrusively.

As one of the other reviewers said, this is not a 5 star restaurant, as that simply doesn't do justice to the whole experience. 10 would be appropriate. And all of this, with wine, came in at less than 80 bucks! What a value!

We will go to Pasta Freska at least once per visit to Seattle from now on! Thanks, Mike and staff!

5 Stars: Just sit back, relax, and let them do the work! (by garett206)

This is the kind of place you hear about in Europe. Course after course of tantalizing surprise!! The best part is, Mike Horri owner personally visits every table to magically decide what is you drink, sample, taste, eat, feast over, and finally indulge!

Tonight was a Saturday night driving friends of the family from Florida on an anniversary vacation. We came across Pasta Freska completely by accident. We walked in at about 7:30pm looking for a slice of pizza and a beer. Boy did we get turned around. When I was asked if I was drinking wine or beer I replied, "I'll have a Syrah." Mike quickly corrected my answer with, "oh, no, I choose the wine for you. Now I want everyone to tell me what you don't like." He asked us mostly about what kind of meats we don't eat. After briefly describing our tastes he was off.

The seating is spread out in front of the kitchen and has an outside deck for the nice days. The main room is narrow and very cozy. Every dish was a culinary master piece. The texture and flavor were amazing. Keep in mind we have no idea what is going on. At this point we are just along for the ride. All in total I think there were 7 or 8 courses including desert. Each dish complimenting the previous and the quality was AMAZING. I am completely serious when I say Pasta Freska was the most intriguing and satisfying dinning experience ANY OF US at the table had ever had!

We ended up leaving the pace after pictures and smiles from the whole staff at about 11:00pm. That's right we were there for 3-1/2 hours!!!! The cost was about $20 a person for the food.

If you are a really impatient fast food junky, this is not the place for you. You will not enjoy the food if you are mad it doesn't all come at once. Keep an open mind and please don't complain about the service. They are busy because the food is so fantastic. Trust me, Mike genuinely cares about your taste buds and will strike notes on every pallet.

Thank you for a wonderfull evening Chef Mike!

5 Stars: Best Service and Best Italian Food anywhere! (by bertrand12)

5 Star is no longer then standard, Pasta Freska raises the bar and exemplifies 10 star service!!! When we walked into the restaurant we were greeted by Chef Mike and his team of pasta professionals. We were expecting the typical spaghetti, linguini, etc... BUT NO! We were guided on a SURPRISE DINNER extravaganza! Each course was specifically prepared for us, from chicken marsala, eggplante parmesan, and the most wonderful seafood pasta dishes ever. The service was amazing, and chef Mike even took the time to sit at our table and enjoy a couple sips of his wine selection.

If your looking for a relaxing and affordable evening, then you've got to visit Pasta Freska and Chef Mike. Food excellent, and service superior! By the way, we tried chef Mike's lunch buffet recently. Got to say.....SIMPLY THE BEST! WE ARE NOW LOYAL PATRONS OF PASTA FRESKA! THE BEST.

After going online and reading about Pasta Freska I was thinking it will be great. What a disappointment. But after reading the reviews about the service its soo true. The service is horrible. I waited for a table, there was 3 tables full. Then no water, the waitresses were so unfriendly. I thought I was a leper. Didn't even say hello, or welcome. It was like a tedious chore for them. And waited for the wine which had to ask numerous times for. I could have walked to the corner grocery to get a bottle. I will never eat there again.

1 Stars: Bad Service at Pasta Freska (by asy)

The food is good but the service is absolutely terrible. This restaurant claims to take reservations yet they don't honor them. We waited for over an hour for our "reserved" table. What's the point in taking reservations? After standing for an hour, we were finally seated. None of the servers described what would come next. Friends had told me about it but I expected our server to give us an overview of how everything worked. Our wine glasses were empty and I had to ask several times for our drinks. The meal started out ok...but then we a 30 minute lull between courses. Water was never refilled so we did it ourselves. Overall, a terrible experience.

2 Stars: Good food, terrible service (by flamingomack)

This was a first time visit to the restaurant and we decided to go for lunch during the week just to try something new. We went all the way through the restaurant to the opposite door before we found someone who worked there and then we had to ask her if we could sit anywhere or be seated. After sitting we were informed that they "ran out of menus". After looking around the practically empty restaurant we inquired about what our ordering options were, which was the buffet or they could make us something. I'm not sure what they could have made since we had no menu or list of ingredients to choose from. So, we got the buffet, which was actually very good considering it had probably been out for awhile. After sitting and eating we never saw our waitress again and got passed up numerous times for more water. When we were ready to leave we not even presented with our check after they cleared our plates. We had to go to the register to pay, which is fine except we saw someone in the table next to us pay their check that was brought to the table, so we waited extra time for our check to be brought. I guess it just seems like too much of an effort for a simple meal at lunch that is supposed to be fast and stress free.

5 Stars: Where has this place been all my life?!?! (by jmpirie)

Praise God and pass a fork! I am sick and tired of fast food and get-you-in get-you-out restraunts. No taste, no service and no value makes me resist going out. But now I have found Pasta Freska. My wife and I recently went for an anniversary dinner on the suggestion of a friend. The servers were very attentive. The menu (or lack of one) was an excellent switch from the norm. The meal was beautifully (and slowly) paced. We were never rushed, which allowed us to thoroughly enjoy the meal and each other. The wine chosen for us was excellent as well. Appetizer, Salad, two courses, dessert plate, bottle of wine, plus complimentary liquers (after the chekc was paid) cost us $104.00 total, including tip and tax. THIS IS A STEAL IN MY BOOK! Seattle needs to relax, enjoy the lost art of eating and support restaruants like Pasta Freska!!

5 Stars: Best Italian food in Seattle (by smith45)

I dine at Pasta Freska once a week. Have ALWAYS had excellent service, great & wonderful food. The Chicken Marsala is to die for ...

So what if there is no menu? its exciting, just need to chill out & have FUN !!!! People are so controlling just sit back and relax with a glass of wine.

However I was there when this obnoxious couple came in and the woman was SO MEAN to the waitress, good riddance. I hope your date dumped you.
And now she is running all over town, saying what bad service she had, and NOT the case. Maybe she needs a class in how to be nice to employees, and obviously has poor customer service skills... she belongs at a place with no class like a Greasy Truck Stop Diner.

PASTA FRESKA IS VERY CLASSY ELEGANT PLACE...

Everyone needs to experience PASTA FRESKA !!!

5 Stars: My favorite Italian food in Seattle! (by QueenAnnePaul)

For people who live in large cities and get out and about, this restaurant is for you. If you are going to complain about paying $30.00 for a decent bottle of wine that is hand picked by a restaurant owner and a "different" dining experience that exudes service and style unlike your typical suburbia chain restaurants.... please do not take up a table at this place. This is an Italian place and dinners are served at an Italian pace. Expect to spend 2 hours eating great dishes, drinking good wine and being served by people who actually know how to run a great neighborhood joint! I would eat there every night if I could!

5 Stars: Definitely Try This Totally Unique Place! (by Elizabeth P.)

Pasta Freska is by far my favorite restaurant. The great part about it is that they don't have menus. The owner (who is super friendly and funny) personally greets you and gets any dining details (vegetarians, level of spiciness, etc.) then brings you plate after plate of small portions. Usually we get 2 kinds of pasta, a chicken and seafood dish. Plus appetizers and salad. It is a GREAT experience and fun place to go with friends or family!

PROS: Fun, Great Food, Wonderful Staff

5 Stars: While on vacations we discovered a gem! (by bebe2768)

It's been almost 2 month since our vacation, but I had something pending...write this! On our vacation through Seattle and other places, we found just by chance this great place. I took us by surprise the fact that there was no dinner menu...we were kind of weird out by it until we realized that we were in for a real treat. The food, wine, service....everything is just awesome and we had just the best time. The very best dinning experience during our stay in Washington. If we would have known of you guys, we wouldn't have paid for such an expensive and horrible dinner at the space needle. You guys are the best and I hope you stay around for our next visit... We have recommended your place to many of our friends....

Thanks

5 Stars: not just a meal, a great experience! (by laurieworkman)

We just got back from Italy and found the best Italian food right here in Seattle! My husband is an ex-chef and we were both blown away with the service, presentation, personal attention and above all, the exquisite meals. It is a completely different dining experience with each course tailor made for each person at the table. I told them I was on Atkins and they accomodated each of us accordingly and beautifully. Each course a wonderful surprise. I have recommended this restaurant to everyone I know and they have all thanked me. And the bill was less than I expected.

5 Stars: A Night to Remember (by garyhere)

After getting lost and being 1 hour late for our reservations, we still were seated promtly as a party of eight. We had four picky eaters over eighty years old and left not a crumb on our plates of all eight courses. Every course was superb. Our party was a very experianced group who have eaten at some of the best restaurants around the world. All agreed it was one of the best meals anywhere. Eggplant, (even the three non eggplant eaters scarfed it up before they realized what it was.) salad, shrimp, mussels, sand dabs, pasta, stuffed rolled chicken breast, and a dessert sampler. All prepared uniquely, yet complementry to each other. Desserts were to die for. Comfortable relaxed eating experiance. My all time favorite restaurant!

5 Stars: My vote for best Italian in Seattle (by rsturzen)

I love this restaurant. My family loves this restaurant. My friends love this restaurant. I don't know who said not good for kids. Every time I have taken my teens and 8 year old, Mike (the owner) has taken fantastic care of their tastes. I feel sorry for those who had bad experiences but I can't personally understand what happened. I am using the restaurant for my wifes 40th birthday bash because she loves the food. I have lived in Seattle since 1963. I have eaten at many of the best restaurants in Seattle, this is one of them. Mike makes your dining experience feel like Europe where eating is an experience to be enjoyed and savoured, not rushed. I know you can't please everyone but you owe it to yourself to try it at least once.

5 Stars: Wonderful food, great fun (by cmgiusti)

We eat at Pasta Freska at least once a month, and we are never disapointed. Mike (the owner) is a wonderful host, and takes time to talk to you and learn your preferences.
If you are a person that doesn't like to be surprised, or are not adventurous, this place is not for you. But, if you like some surprises and wonderful Italian food then I would highly reccomend Past Freska. Any time we have visitors from out of town we take them here and always hear rave reviews.
Be prepared to sit for a while, dinner here is not fast food. It usually takes about an hour and a half for us to have dinner.
Pasta Freska is also a great value, dinners are $18 per person for 4-5 courses. The amazing dessert plate is $6 and is enough for 2.

5 Stars: Love this place! (by carichick)

I've been to Pasta Freska many times over the last few years, for romantic dinners and for celebrations with 9 or 10 other people. I've never been disappointed -- the food has always been amazing, and I'm picky about Italian/Mediterranean food, since that's my heritage.

I recently went with a large group where one person was a vegetarian, one ate fish but no shellfish, one ate no seafood at all, and one didn't eat tomatoes or mushrooms. Each of these people were served something different. Mike managed to please everybody, from the pickiest eater to the most adventurous. I can't recommend it enough.

4 Stars: Just go with the flow for a great meal (by magala)

First thing to note---this place has no menu, and you'll enjoy it and find it a fun experience if 1) You like surprises, 2) you're not a particularly picky eater, and 3) you're going willing to try anything (instead of going with a very specific lasagne craving that you've got to kill.)

Given all that, it's great fun and very good food. How it works is this: The owner, Mike Horri, comes over to chat after you're seated. He asks you about your dislikes. "You like seafood? You like spicy?" etc. Given what you tell him, he brings out a series of dishes that meet your requirements, so every course is a surprise. It's fun and delicious, but go knowing what you're in for. Just pretend you're in Italy and go ready for a fun, unique dining experience--it's what Pasta Freska's all about!

5 Stars: An experience to savor (by cherbes)

I recently married a Seattlite & we eat out nearly every lunch & dinner, mostly at the area's best restaurants. But none is so all-around enjoyable as Pasta Freska. The food is not just great, it's amazing. Come in when you have time to linger, partly because the experience is worth savoring, & partly to let all that food digest! We've had both a romantic dinner together, & a dinner with my very picky mother, daughter and 9-month old granddaughter. All of us were thrilled with every course, the bend-over-backward service, & warm atmosphere. Ten thumbs up! The perfect place to entertain out-of-town guests.

3 Stars: Mixed Feelings (by pez)

The concept of menu-less dining left us with mixed feelings. On one hand, the host was charming, warm, and welcoming. You feel like you're eating at a friend's house. On the other hand, I have to heartily disagree with a previous reviewer who claimed that dinner is tailored to your preferences. We weren't asked our preferences, only dislikes, and despite of our dislikes (eggplant, mushrooms, red sauces), our dinner contained all of the above. I noticed the diners around us got the exact same meal as us (despite mentioning similar dislikes), so they obviously make what they want to make. It was tasty, but don't expect that you can make requests.
