First off we made reservations and had to wait 45 minutes past our reservation time. No worries, the reviews were great. We didn t get to order drinks, but the waitress had no problem asking the other 1/2 of our group for their drink

Me and my family have been going to this restaurant for 15 years and never had a bad meal. The price won't hurt your pocket book and you never leave hungry from this establishment. The staff are friendly and willing to accomodate your

I have gone there several times. I agree it is not the Benihana, but the place is not all that bad. Every time I was there I had a good time and enjoyed the food,...... and also the service. Not bad for the money. I would say if you did not like it you should have left, rather than, I guess, enjoy starring down the blouses of overweight low class ladies.....

My husband introduced me to Sekura's when we met just over 10 years ago and up to that point, I didn't like Japanese food and only mildly liked Chinese (I think it's a little too greasy). This restaurant blew my mind! The food is soooo incredibly good that I found myself overeating time and time again and not caring about my waistline. There is usually a bit of a wait where we sit in a lounge-like area until a table is ready for us. It is like a Benihana where you sit around the chef and watch him prepare your meal inches away from your plate. I will admit, some of the cooks are more flamboyant than others and some are better cooks than others, but even the lesser skilled are worth every penny. The waitresses are to the point, quiet, giggly and shy and don't bug you while you eat. You can get free refills of rice and you simply *have* to pour the orange-colored sauce over the top of everything. I don't know what they put in it, but WOW! If you even remotely like shrimp, GET THE SHRIMP! Please! It is fantastic. Best of all, the food isn't fried and all greasy. Everything is fresh and you don't feel bloated or oily afterwards, but like you just ate something healthy. Leftovers are even better than the freshly prepared in the restaurant, the next morning; which for me, is about 3am when I wake up remembering I still have some left and sneak into the kitchen to make a pig out of myself again.

This is not a place for snobs or people who are all uptight about Japanese culture or for anyone who is more concerned w/ the wallpaper than what's in front of you. The restaurant is like my neighbor's mother's kitchen when we were kids; you go over there to eat excellent food in generous portions made w/ care and quality ingredients. It is our favorite restaurant and where we take friends who we are thanking w/ a great meal or out-of-towners we are trying to impress. It also just so happens to be the favorite restaurant of countless others we have come across. Just go there, it's reasonably priced and delicious.

Japanese food? I hardly call throwing soy sauce on everything you cook, Japanese. We asked for a hot sauce and he grabbed the Tabasco. Ranch dressing on the basic iceburg lettuce salad with one cucumber slice and one tomato.

The chef said nothing the entire time he cooked our meal and did absolutely nothing to try to entertain any of us.

As for the decor, Early Trash. It looked like it was bombed in WWII. You could grease an entire fleet of trucks with all of the nasty grease you can see on the fans above the tables.
Our view across the table had a heavy young woman sitting across from us with her hand right down the middle of her Las Vegas sweatshirt adjusting her breasts. A sweatshirt. Imagine trying to put your hand down that high neck. Now that was a visual! I guess you can get the idea of the crowd???

Yikes! This place is not for a true diner. Don't bother. I couldn't wait to get out of there. We didn't bother eating all of our food for fear that we would be ill.

Well, I am still living today to tell our story. I am thankful!

We've always enjoyed our meals there. It's as much entertainment as it is a meal. Of course, some chefs are better than others with their antics but they all cook the same way. Not expensive; you know the food is hot since it comes right off the griddle; the waitresses stay out of the way but seem to be there when you need a drink refill.

Sakura's is a great place to eat. It's been around a while so no wonder it's not in the most tip-top shape. It is not dirty though, the grill's are cleaned after each preparation. They bring out the food fresh for each preparation. There is a system to the meal. Orders are taken, drinks are served and food is prepared. The uncommonly needy diner may find it aggrevating that there are no waitstaff hovering over you but the casual diner would feel very comfortable with the service. I have never had an empty glass or needed anything further than what is prepared for the meal. As for the soup, it is very Miso, that's all Miso is, broth and mushrooms. Salad? Well you shouldn't expect a salad to be exquisite in an oriental setting. Although I have had a side salad there with ranch and it was normal. Always order the chicken and beef and it's great with the yum yum sauce and all. Sure they hire the local young folks of Tacoma to do the cooking but I would rather have them cooking for me and making a living than running amuck in the streets. At least they are contributing to society in a positive way. I will go back to Sakura's and I would recommend it to any friends or familoy that enjoy that style of cuisine. Perhaps the price was too much for jholmes, as it's not cheap eating, you get what you pay for though and I think you get a lot at Sakura's, I never go away hungry that's for sure!

So, yesterday I took my family to the Sakura Steakhouse in Tacoma, Washington.
From the moment I walked into the restaurant I was disappointed. The appearance was dingy if not a little dirty. The rear of the main floor had stacked tables and baby chairs pushed in the corner along with, what appeared to be old decorations of some sort.
The Tappan grill/table was not in its best appearance as well as the surrounding area appearance of a greasy kitchen.
Although the waitress was nice, she was not the most attentive person and her service was less than acceptable.
Soup and salad were dropped off at the table. The salad was the worst I have had in a long while. The soup was nothing more than broth with a few pieces of raw mushroom. I would not call it Miso. The rice that accompanied the meal was awful. It seemed like boiled rice with a mixed vegetable package added in for coloring. The rice was mushy and bland.
The cook was pitiful. A young kid with a metal stud in his lower lip. His performance was weak and sloppy. He over cooked most of the food and added far too much butter and sauce while cooking. From the start of pouring the sauces (sloppy) to cleaning the grill (messy) he literally ruined the experience.

The only enjoyment came when we left the restaurant and laughed about the place.

I know that these comments may appear to be harsh, but they are accurate and true.

The rice was over cooked and, to my disbelief, greasy! How can you destroy fried rice?! Also, I ordered a steak, which was clearly understood by all those around me. However, the waitress heard "steak and shrimp." Honest mistake I guess. The problem mushroomed when I tried to resolve the issue after the bill came. All the manager could say (rudely I might add) was "you ate it, you pay." The problem was, everyone gets shrimp. I got a few more than everyone else without realizing it. I thought the chef was playing a trick on my wife by giving me more than she received. My mistake I guess, but the manager wanted nothing of it. She wanted to argue over a $4 difference on the bill. This was by far the WORST dinning experience that my wife and I have ever had. I would highly recommend that you avoid this establishment at all costs. They have very poor food and an even worse attitude towards their customers.

The food was mediocre, and made some of us sick afterwards. I would not recomend this place to anyone.
