This is a perfect place to stop by and grab a delicious sandwich. They can get pretty busy, so I would avoid the 12 to 1 hour. That being said, I still don't mind waiting in line for a fresh, Delicious turkey sandwhich on sourdough. Oh, and don't forget to add on a cookie!

Essential is an institution in Wallingford, and deservedly so. The breads are fresh, if not flavorful. The pastries are sweet, if not sublime. However, there is something I can't quite peg that isn't great about this place. It's not

The bread is good. I love the pizza bianca and the (expensive) little pastries. The lunch items are pricey given the portions, and sometimes the soups can be a bit iffy/too-experimental. I'm not a regular, but already a couple times the

One of my favorite walks in Seattle is along the Burke Gilman trail from the U-district to Fremont. along the way, you can stop at Essential Bakery in Wallingford. I am a coffee addict, and they have good espresso drinks that go great with their yummy treats. Their bread is so good that many local stores supply it if you can't get to the store. My absolute favorite is the rosemary bread.

Used to love this place. Brought everyone I knew here. Now the shelves are always empty. I am VERY UPSET that they no longer carry petit fours. I realize that we are in a supersize age, but petit fours are worth every overpriced cent as

Essential baking is an amazing bakery on in Wallingford (Seattle). They have a huge selection of Artisan breads, desserts, cookies and other treats. The people there are so friendly and easygoing and can always provide a suggestion if the selection is just too much to handle. I'm a huge fan of their Fremont Sourdough, which is as good as it gets outside of San Francisco. If you need to pick up a loaf to go with dinner, or to have for lunch sandwiches, essential is where its at. I'm always amazed at the variety of stuff they have, which always includes some really gourmet desserts.

PROS: fresh, high quality, wide selection, local
CONS:

The Essential Baking Company simply never disappoints. I can go there for nothing more than an order of toast (which comes with a yummy blueberry spread) and walk away satisfied. Everything else that I have tried there--poppy seed bread,

Essential Baking Company is, hands down, my favorite bakery in Seattle. On top of making fabulous breads, pastries, muffins, cookies, pies and cakes they also cook up some mouth-watering soups and sandwiches at their Wallingford bakery.
