This is by far my favourite italian place here in seattle. I have been there several times. Best part is that all their dishes have different and great taste. I agree its a little pricey but then I havent been to a cheap italian place.
Try thier calamari (with onions and tomatoes) -amazing. If you are confused with the menu then ask the waiter - the one with long side buns is really gud.

Salvatore's has great food, drinks and desserts. They always have great entrees and salads on their menu, great drinks and desserts.I was served a great caesar salad and the special which was ravioli with gorgonzola cheese and roasted walnuts in a gorgonzola cream sauce. For dessert I had this wonderful ice cream sundae with whipped cream and italian cherries and italian cherry sauce. My friends who went with me liked the caesar salad also and a bunch of the pasta entrees and they liked the coconut sorbet and the proffiteroli for dessert. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, and the waiter and his service were very nice as well.
i highly reccomend this place if you are looking for great italian food and a place to hang out

Pronto, having lived in Italy for a few years, eating in this restaurant was like returning to Italia. My wife and I appreciate how true to Sud Italia this experience is. If you like the Olive Garden, stay away and keep our waits for a tavola shorter. If you're in a rush, go to Papa Murphy's, please. If you are willing to learn about good food and wine, we'll see you there. Grazie! Ciao, ciao, ciao, ciao.

Pros: Intimate tables

Cons: occasional long wait (but for a reason)

.

I have been to this restaurant twice and I have to say that the food were above average for, but the portions were very small and the price expensive. I am very particular about my Italian food and I was happy to see that the menu contained many entrees besides pasta. The food was well prepared and tasty. One major drawback was that the portion size was small for the price charged.

I'm not one who usually submits a review, however I was so disappointed by my experience I felt compelled to write. I went last night to celebrate my birthday and the service was incredibly slow. We waited an hour between receiving the salad and main entree. Every other table within earshot also complained of the long wait for their food. The food, itself, was not impressive and the presentation, plain. Three in my party ordered from the long list of specials ($17-$19). The meat was over-cooked and tough, the pasta which accompanied it was okay but plain. The ravioli stuffed with portabello mushroom didn't have much taste. The linguine in bianco (linguine with seafood) was pretty good. Sauce was light and flavorful, but the shrimp were baby shrimp--not regular shrimp!
One highlight was the complimentary dessert in acknowledgment of my brithday.
In all, overpriced for the food and service that one receives.

I have lived in the Roosevelt area for about 10 years and am lucky enough to have Salvatore within walking distance of my house. The food here is absolutely amazing from appetizer to dessert! My favorite is the penne puttenesca, but I have never had anything here that wasn't spectacular!

I take out-of-town guests here all the time and Salvatore always ends up being rated as one of the best Italian meals they have ever had. I recently took a business associate to dinner here and he paid a very high compliment to Salvatore saying, "If I was on death row, I would ask for this as my last meal."

Beyond the food, the owner, Salvatore, and the staff are very friendly and fun. I always feel like I am having dinner with family when I am there.

I highly recommend Salvatore for a truly amazing meal and overall experience.

Ciao Bella! is what I hear when I walk in the door at Salvatore's. I feel like royalty when there. I bring my friends when visiting from out of town. All of the waiter's have wonderful knowledge of the food, and you can visualize it when they describe in detail. The only problem I have is deciding which item to order. Try one of the wild boar dishes, they're delicious! Top notch and wonderful intimate atmosphere.

The service was great, the food was yummy! They make the best puttanesca I've ever had, they were able to make it without anchovies since we are vegetarian. The lentil soup was awesome. We will go back for sure.

This was such an outstanding restaurant from when it opened in the late 80's. Our recent visit was sadly disappointing. We hope this can be turned around. We have always loved this restaurant and Salvatore.

It has been three years since I have last set foot inside of Salvatore. Some friends of mine still love this place and invited us out to join them for dinner. We should have stayed home. A place as good as Salvatore used to be should pay attention to their shrinking customer base. Pushy, arrogant service as well as poorly prepared food result in bad customer experience. I won't come back. I was really trying to love this place again. I hope Salvatore can re-establish what he once had in the early 90's.
Which was a great restaurant that was always consistent. Good luck

Pros: good wine list, involtini di pollo, Salvatore himself

I have been a customer for 10 years and never leave disappointed. I have traveled to small towns in Italy, and Salvatore's food is definitely true Italian. The servers are always friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

We recently went to Salvatores to celebrate my birthday. I was very excited. We had been regulars and I knew just which delightful dishes I was going to get and looked forward to the great relaxed ambiance and the professional wait staff. We entered the restaurant at around 5 pm to the smell of cigarette smoke from one of the staff who was smoking. We were seated adjacent to a speaker loudly playing what I'll kindly call "non-mood enhancing" music. The waiter then told me that Travaglini Gattinara, which I'd ordered many times there before "hadn't been made in 6 years". I think the winery'd be surprised by this. He was pushy and argumentative. It saddens me to see a place I enjoyed so much so many times go down hill like this.

After moving to seattle in the early 90's Salvatore was one of the places we would go to treat ourselves. We enjoyed it so much that the price tag was well worth it even on our very limited budget. Went back recently for a birthday dinner and was sadly underwhelmed with pretty much the entire experience. The wait staff was annoying, bordering on obnoxious, the restaurant was freezing cold, and the food that I remembered being excellent was mediocre at best. Overcookd prawns in a puddle of grease and tasteless veal smothered in sauce to hide the fact. All of this along with the privelage of paying premium prices (>$100 for 2 w/ a modest wine). The Montepulciano wine we were reccomended however, was quite nice.

My husband & I liked this place up until several mos ago. We gave it a few more tries, but the service became indifferent to rude. When I asked for my salad dressing on the side, the waitress ridiculed me in front of other customers & told me that the kitchen would refuse this request. However, the vegan customers next to us apparently had no problems with their special requests. We tip well, & are easy going folks. It was just the worst experience... enough for me to come here & write about it.

On my last visit to Salvatore's my girlfriend and I shared a fresh tomato and imported buffalo mozzarella antipasto that was to die for. It was beefy slices of fresh tomato drizzled with an aged balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and sprinkled with fresh cracked black pepper and bright intense basil leaves.

My entree was a classic milanese dish of Osso Bucco; a slowly braised veal shank served over a bowl of crisp intensely green peas. yum, tender.

My girlfriend had medallions/tournedos of beef tenderloin served with a side of pasta in a creamy sauce. It did not stand the hairs up on the back of my neck like the osso bucco did, but was still on par with excellent.

Go there. Order the most expensive and luxurious dish on the menu, suck down a glass or two of wine, and just try not to have a good time.

Salvatore has been my favorite place to go for years. The specials are always amazing, I rarely order from the regular menu. The veal in particular is to die for. I have been greeted by many of the same friendly and knowledgable waitstaff for almost 10 years now. If you want to miss the weekend crowd, go on a Wednesday, the only day Salvatore himself is in the kitchen. On all other days though he will happily greet you at the door and promptly offer you wine while you wait! Love this place like it's my home away from home!

Go for the pastas! They make the best puttanesca I've ever had, worth every penny. The servers are always personable and the food is always delivered hot and prompt. Skip the desserts and pizzas, small portions, bland and over priced.

This is so characteristic of the neighborhood eateries in Seattle, but so far exceeds the others. We have been here a dozen or so times and find ourselves warmly welcomed and served with a great menu and interesting and delicious specials. The waitstaff has many regulars who are helpful, personable and just plain nice. We can think of no other place which is so consistent and a pleasure to take friends to and not be worried about the outcome.

Our last visit we paired up with another couple, strangers to us, but shared a beautiful evening. That's what Salvatore is all about!

I'm not an Italian Food Lover but I will make an exception for Salvatore. I love the Puttanesca and the Clam Linguine. Try their pizzas as well for appetizer. I have been a regular at Salvatore's for 10 years now and I am still pleased with the quality and value of the food. I highly recommend it.

My lovely date and I dined at Salvatore on Friday night for the first time since I was in high school (13 years). It's still fantastic service, ambiance and food. My rack of lamb was delicious and my date oo'd and aah'd over her seafood linguini. We found the house Chianti pleasant but their wine list is impressive if you prefer something better. I'll be back to Salvatore soon.

Good Italian fare in the North end of Seattle. The menu is good, the wait staff is very knowlegeable about the food and the wines, and it's pretty romantic. Not a ten, but pretty good.

Our experience has been that even if you do make a reservation, be prepared to wait, though. Fortunately you can order your bottle of wine in the entry/bar area while you're waiting, so you're usually adequately buzzed for your entrée's arrival, and you can finish your dessert and be ready to drive home without worrying about a DUI.

This is the place you make your own personal restaurant to take ALL out of town friends and relatives to. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and charming, and several of them deserve their own version of an Oscar for the recital of the specials, making them impossible to say no to. Involtini is perfect every time. You can't order the wrong thing here, but the meat dishes are particularly magnificent. Sal makes everyone feel like a VIP.

Though I cannot remember the name of the dish, I do know what it consists of... Chicken stuffed with raisins, garlic & parmesan cheese in a cream sauce. Excellent! Deliciously decadent! We had the prawns appetizer which was served with an aoili which was delicious as well. We had wine in the bar during our wait to be seated. It was wonderful (I had a Chianti, my date had their special... a favorite as they were out of it quickly) The bar is VERY small.. 'cozy' is a word that I think realators use for cramped, but it wasn't bad. Though my date was a disappointment, the food and service more than made up for that. They'll see me again, with friends in tow!
