Tom T's review of Mountain View Baptist Church is an example of one of the great weaknesses of American Christianity in the last twenty years. It is not a new problem. The church in Corinth faced the same challenge. It is the "what's in it for me" syndrome. The sermon's too short, the service is too long, and the communion doesn't suit my taste.
It is a community of believers, for crying out loud, not a Broadway production. evaluate the church in Centralia based on its community, not its methods. We don't need new wine skins, but we sure could use some new wine....and I don't mean whine.

I moved to Washington after retiring from my international banking career in nine countries across four continents. My family was searching for a home church seven months ago. Mountain View Baptist Church was the first one we tried and we have decided to stay after the first sermon by Pastor Bill. His sermon is truly world class, not only is his sermon based on the Scripture but he also gives background information and class room type study note hand-out so we can understand the Scripture a lot easier. Having listened to sermons in nine countries, we are thankful that the Lord has directed us to the Mountain View Baptist Church. Loi Chan

I first attended Mountain View Baptist Church because I was church shoping. My parents were life-long Lutherans and I was a 20+ year Methodist (I'm 50) -- we were looking for a place where we could worship together as a family after I moved to Washingon in 2006. I could not attend or worship God in the Lutheran church my parents attended and, as I was new to the area, I could not invite them to my home church. Mountain View Baptist gave us a warm, loving place where we come together and worship the Lord.

Pastor Bill is an excellent teacher. His sermons are usually based on a Bible theme or book. He is currently teaching the book of Luke. He does not skip or gloss over any verse -- even tho it may not be popular in the current culture. I appreciate that he strongly encourages the congregation to study the Bible and to pray.

I do miss some of the Methodist church traditions (e.g.singing the Doxology during the collection) and some of the old time hymns.

In summary, I thank the Lord that He directed a couple of octogenaian Lutherans and a middle aged Methodist to this warm, loving, Bible based, Christian church.

Baptist Church using 7/11 format, seven words sung 11 times, occasional switches to 11/7 to change things up. Appears to have been infiltrated by wayward pentecostals who installed praise team concept. Bill Knepper keeps it very simple, his three point sermon could be printed inside a book of matches. It was scriptural, he used NIV text, seemed engaging but it reminds of 100 calorie snack pack. Just when we were enjoying the goodies he ran out.

Interesting communion, they just lump together the bread and the juice in one pass. Then one of his elders decided to insert his sunday school lesson in his communion prayer. Bill looked in good humor. Don't plan on service getting over at noon, it drug on till 12:30 or so.

I don't give this church ten years at the pace of decline it has gone through since the early '70s. I'd sell it to the factory outlets and move on. Otherwise, find a hymn book and use it. Dump the NIV for the King James and tell Bill he'd better stretch the message to a full hour. Send the praise team home.
