Great studio in a great neighborhood. Lots of different types of classes with a good focus on helping beginners start out strong -- I felt comfortable right from the start about 15 months ago, and as I've grown, the studio has grown with me! The studio has a mix of ages and there are a number of male students in most of the classes.
Also, I like that you don't need special yoga clothing or props to practice here, just put on some stretchy clothes and you are all set.

Pros: laid-back, friendly, not intimidating

Cons: street parking only, but usually abundant

I moved to Ballard a few months ago, just down the street from NW Community Yoga. The little studio called to me every day, until I took advantage of the new member's special (2 months for the price of 1). I can only say it's been transforming; within a few weeks, everyone I know told me I never looked so happy and at peace! I feel stronger both mentally and physically, and my arms have never been so toned. I haven't braved the higher level classes yet, but all of the instructors for the basic and restorative classes are wonderful; Pilates too. I particularly enjoy Trudy's class on Monday and Friday mornings. Stop by and try it; Diane leads a free class every month!

Pros: Friendly, easy-going instructors

Cons: If the door's open, smoke drifts in from the alehouse patio

My husband and I have tried several yoga studios, always looking for a big class size where we can hide out in the back. New Community Yoga offers some smaller beginner classes and we feel much more comfortable--in the middle. They also offer pilates classes as well. Night classes available are helpful for those who work. We bought a gift card for our friend, which she has since used and has continued on with this studio.

NW Community Yoga Studio offers a great little intimate neighborhood yoga studio. They also offer pilates and other classes - you can even rent the space out for your own function if you want. The classes vary from really small to medium sized in attendance and the teachers are attentive and intuitive. Prices are typical for yoga classes and skill levels range from beginner to intermediate featuring Hatha and Kundalini yoga. Considering Shakti isn't far from here, it's nice to see a small community studio staying afloat.
