This school is simply toxic. Yes, they may have nice facilities, but the social enviornment is very unhealthy. My entire family went to this school and being a poor family, encountered intense classism from students and faculty alike. Students who "fail to assimilate" fall through the cracks and faculty have historically failed to intervene on the child's behalf when struggling socially. Academically, these children are no better prepared for high school than public school students with the exception of developing hateful attitudes and rigid cliques separated along family income. The staff and faculty are not knowledgeable about other academic opportunities such as Running Start or other local blue ribbon high schools such as Curtis Senior High. These educational alternatives may have a benefit for their students but most of these students are channeled into Bellarmine Preparatoryl; another religious private school. They seem more keen on pushing students into exclusive and expensive schools than actually preparing students for the future.

Pros: Good Facilities

Cons: Rich/Affluent community, Classism, Poor faculty involvement

If you're seeking a parohical alternative to the public school system, why not consider St. Charles Borromeo? Offering challenging classes at the pre-K to 8th grade level, St. Charles employs an impressive staff of educators who are consistently rated "excellent" by parents and others within the community. The school stresses "character, compassion and values" at affordable prices. St. Charles Borromeo School is worth investigating.

Before moving to Tacoma over 6 years ago, I researched Catholic schools in Pierce County. A friend recomended Saint Charles Borromeo as having strong academic standards. He was right. This school also has wonderful facilties not often found in Catholic schools--a huge modern library, high tech equipment in each classroom, a new music room, a new computer lab, a large gym with brand new flooring, hot lunch each day, etc. But a school is not only the facilities. The teachers and staff here are extra special. They go out of their way to help each and every child. Their reading curriculum is top notch. Over 90 percent of Saint Charles graduates continue their Catholic education at Bellarmine Prepartory School in Tacoma and it is said that Saint Charles graduates are well prepared for the college prep standards at Bellarmine. By the way, because of the parish subsidy and extra emphasis on fundraising, Saint Charles' tuition is one of the lowest among the Catholic schools in Pierce County.
