Great spot to meet up with groups of people, happy hour, or just hang for the night. Fun, sometimes crazy atmosphere that makes for a great summer spot.

Dangerous Anglophile Bar
by MrBongo
My wife and I were stared at from the time we walked in the door until I was threatened with attack by the white trash regulars that didn't like the looks of us.
I would second the other review that says "Anglophile" hangout. Don't go there if your skin isn't white.
Staff was no help as the violent regulars followed me out of the bar as we were trying to escape the trash.
Bad place to watch the Sounders game.
Pros: none
Cons: fighting, threats

Dont waste your money
by beerfiend
I went to this pub last week and had the worst service ever. The bartenders kept ignoring me and they kept giving me broken glasses, not just cracked but literally broken edges. I ordered a drink and i never got it, i ended up leaving before i could even get the drink i ordered. They got me for about 8 bucks not including the generous tips i left (i've been a waiter, so i know how to tip). I really tried to get into the tone of the place but i kept getting stares and smug looks from the so-called regulars and the staff. Wasted my hard-earned money, don't do the same.
Pros: none
Cons: service and atmosphere

Enjoy your other options
by BDR3
I tried to like this place just to watch football. The crowd and atmosphere were always good but the bartenders just didn't understand that they were at work. I don't need good service. I just want a few beers and a match. Several bars have opened in the last couple of years with both Fox and Setanta so fans and expats have plenty of new options.
Pros: None now
Cons: Bar staff

THE place to be to watch (real) football
by malsquad
I love the George and Dragon. I've found plenty of pubs around Seattle that show football games, ranging from the Premier League to international fixtures, but they are all just sort of okay - decent food, decent drink, boring atmosphere. But, go on any Saturday or Sunday morning/afternoon to the George and Dragon and you'll get decent food, decent drink, and an atmosphere that is as close to an English pub as I've found this side of the pond. For food, I've had the bangers and mash (pretty good), English breakfast (good as well) and fish and chips, which I had had high hopes for but which turned out to be pretty bad. A shame, as I had convinced myself it would be the only place in Seattle I'd be able to find authentic English fish and chips, which are amazing. The George and Dragon's... not so much. They have a lot of good beer on tap, including some I've only had in my time England (such as Kronenberg, my personal favorite). Everything is pretty inexpensive, but whenever I go to watch football I couldn't care less. Its the best place for English ex-pats and American ex-pats in training to get together over a pint and enjoy the beautiful game.
Pros: As close to an English pub as I can find
Cons: Disappointing fish and chips

Worst staff in Seattle - give it a miss
by seattleone
Do not patronise this establishment. Went down there on Saturday to meet friends for the summer solstise festival. This ENGLISH establishment does not accept English (or Australian) ID's as proof of age. Go figure. We thought the guy at the door was joking. When we questioned him as to why he could not use a perfectly legal form of ID to prove age he could give absolutely no legal or logical reason except for that is what his manager told him (who just happened to be standing next to him so he said) and said that we should all have AMERICAN driver's licenses. What an idiot. The guy tried to provoke us wanted to 'take us on' right there. I have lived in London for the past 3 years and have never been bullied, threatened, pushed or otherwise harrased like we were before we even got in the door at G&D. We will never return there and would warn anyone who is thinking about going there to avoid it - ESPECIALLY anyone looking for a good 'English' pub - they do not want to do business with English or Australian citizens. Not surprisingly we patronised 3 other local Freemont establishments that day who had absolutely no problem doing business with English patrons.
Pros: Not a one
Cons: Everything about it especially the staff

FOREIGN ID'S NOT ACCEPTABLE
by dani221
Foreign ID cards cannot be accepted according to Washington State Liquor Board. The W.S.L.B. is very clear on this. The only acceptable ID's are US state Drivers licenses/ID cards & Canadian Provence Driver's licenses, US military ID's and the PASSPORTS of all countries. Some bars do not enforce this but that is a chance that they take. To the previous review from "seattleone" :::The door guy at The George and Dragon was just doing his job and protecting the bar and its staff from potential legal liability. If you are visiting on vacation you should pick up a guide book- most of them mention nightlife laws/regulations and ID requirements.
Pros: Nice deck, strong drinks good staff
Cons: Really crowded Fri and Sat nights

Best Anglophile Hangout in Western Washington
by wodnesdaeg
The G&D is a unique Seattle establishment - the best (& only?) English pub in Seattle. I've been going here for years - have to get my G&D fix every so often. I was in there the other day however & my jukebox selections were suddenly interrupted by a football (soccer) game on the big-screen TV, which was blaring so loudly it was distorted & unintelligible. This led to me leaving early, along with my girlfriend (her first time). Despite this unpleasant experience, it is usually a fun place to go & relax. The owner, an ex-pat himself, is friendly & does a great job overall. You feel like you're back in England for the short while you're here - a nice respite from the grungy chaos of Seattle. The atmosphere is cozy with comforting decor - dark wood paneling & various British memorabilia lining the walls. They have expanded the outdoor seating & it's great to sit out there, esp. on a nice weekend day. Fri. & Sat. nights can get super crowded, so be warned. Also Trivia Night on Tues., which is fun to attend even if you're not participating. (come around 9pm to hear all the answers over a few good pints) The beer selections are great. They have all the best English brews on tap, along with hard cider. I recommend getting the larger Imperial pint - it's a better deal. The food is the usual British pub fare & they do a surprisingly good job considering. When I'm hungry I always get the always satisfying shepherd's pie. The jukebox is nice to have, although it's usually too loud & could have more British selections. I have rarely had a problem with the staff - don't know what all the fuss is about, although don't expect table service here. You have to order from the bar. Parking can sometimes be a problem. The parking lot out front is small &, being Fremont, it can be trying. One gripe I have is they almost never show rugby (or other English sports). Was hoping to see England vs. Scotland last Sat., but they weren't showing it. Still, this is a one of a kind sort of place.
Pros: good imported beer selection, nice atmosphere & decor, good football, friendly staff, nice outdoor seating
Cons: often too loud, not exactly cheap, parking on weekends, no rugby

Great Pub Feel
by browncm83
This is a great neighborhood bar I frequent often. A good place to sit alone at the bar and watch some footbal (the real kind) or sit in a booth with a group of pals and talk over a pint. Good English pub fare. Watch out for Tuesday Trivia nights. It can get really crowded. I watched the World Cup here. What a blast!
Pros: European footbal, Pints of Ale,
Cons: Limited Parking

Overrated Excuse For A Pub
by vogler6
If the staff isn't complaining about watching a particular soccer match that was shown earlier in the day they are busy pouring your drink as slowly as possible while giving you a bad attitude. Don't waste your time.

What a neighborhood pub should be
by tracey73
just moved to Fremont and I love this pub! Friendly faces, good atmosphere, a crowd that mingles rather than sticking to their own tables. The staff treats you like and old friend by your second visit. Weeknights here are the best.

Bartenders are rude
by sami4124
I went into the George and Dragon recently. I also found that it took forever to get a drink and the bartenders were exceptionally rude. Not just to me but also to a few other customers. I won't be going in there again. ALSO: In regards to one review, I think it's ridiculous to have to buy a bartender a shot just to get them out of a bad mood.
Pros: good beer
Cons: nasty bartenders

You're Missing the Point...
by suzidee
As an English Bird, I have to say you're all missing the point. This is a BRITISH Pub, it's gonna be smoky and full of yobs, this is what an English pub is like, just think of it as a theme bar. Although the food is below average I have always found that the staff are really friendly and if they're in a bad mood, get them a shot, they'll soon get over it.
Far from reminding me why I left England this place believe it or not makes me feel a little homesick, the decor may not be that nice but it feels like an English Pub which I guess is the point, I Love this place.
Pros: Real English Pints, Good Bar Chat, Brits
Cons: Bad Food

STAFF STINKS!
by jane12
Owners are cool but their rude staff is totally undesirable. I do not recommend going to the George and Dragon unless you are eager to be ignored when you need a drink. Most of the bartenders (especially those who have been working there awhile) are bitter and rude. Also (as a side note) make sure you know what you are paying for, because sometimes the bartenders make "mistakes" on your tab. Total jerks.
Pros: rude staff!

Nice Pub
by lord_humongous
The George & the Dragon is a nice English pub. They have a really good selection of beers on tap and the bartender was very nice and helpful. The one real negative is that the bar can get really busy when there's a football (soccer to some people) game on. Parking can be a challenge sometimes as well.
Pros: Good selection, Friendly staff
Cons: , Crowded

Footie paradise -- nice staff
by joepinstripe
I am stunned by some of the "bad service" comments I have seen here. Not only are all the staff right proper blokes, but I have personally observed that they are nice to everyone, patient with the drunks at 9am (including me on a game morning), and love to talk about football. Aside from some of my soccer teammates, i know of no other place to go have a good chat about whay Man U's defesne is collapsing, over a cold pint of Boddie's. The food is excellent -- not Gordon Ramsay, by any means -- and the simple stuff is best: beans on toast, bacon baps, sausage butties, etc. And they never forget to bring the HP sauce! :-)
Come to the George and enjoy yourself with great beer and food, fun staff and a Manchester United victory on telly.
Pros: Staff love footy, Great crowds, Lively atmosphere

Bloody lousy!
by fremontdude
"George & Dragon" pub is just another listless English drinking hangout. Lonley crowds hang onto the bar during the week with an occassional lively weekend atmosphere.
So if you into the old English style approach of smokey pubs, cocky management, and undercooked food this may be your dream haven.
As previous posters mention Fremont has alot of great pubs that make "G&D" last stop!
Pros: import beer
Cons: smoke, bossy management, food

Not Recommended
by pubguy
George & Dragon is predominantly a sports bar hangout and which caters to soccer matches and ignores other major sports
The decor is average with a smelly/filthy looking carpet.
Beer is quite good but the food is bad(fishn'chips) poorly undercooked(Englsih style)!
So if looking for a night out where mostly Englsih chaps drink this might be your hangout but the smoke and crowd make this an unpleasant hangout!
Pros: englishbeer
Cons: smoke, facilities, parking

avoid the george!
by machrisod
a decent place to watch a soccer game, but i found the staff to be extreemly inconsiderate and rude. i won't be going back here any time soon. take my word for it, watch the game on satelite or have a crink at any of the other much cooler bars in fremont.

Been twice now on matchday and have the same thing to say: great food and drink , poor service.
It's OK tho I'll be going back. good and smokey pub so if you don't like it the patio is nice also!
Pros: Football!, Beer, Good food

Don't Believe the Negatives
by uwsid
Sure, maybe it's a little clique-y, but the George rocks.
The service, I've always found, is excellent. Perhaps it's that they've hired more staff in the last year or so.
Order beers in the imperial pint size. It's a better deal. And have the sausage. It's really good.
Pros: great food, good beer selection, footie!
Cons: parking

Nice & laid back.....
by agardner405
A little pricey but a good place to just sit and relax and have a couple of beers. Not your typical meat market bar scene, nice and relaxed. Good juke box!
Pros: Food/drinks, jukebox
Cons: small/dirty brooms, smoke

Sure to give every British ex-pat a good reminder of why you left. Ignorant, common staff and their gurning american birds. Give it a miss.

Smoke Filled Pit
by mule7
Only go to this bar if you REALLY like second hand cigarette smoke. You will need a respirator if you don't. I was physically kept from using the restroom by authentic English soccer hooligans, who seemed greatly amused by the September 11th terrorist attacks. Not worth the time.
Cons: Smoke filled, Cramped, Rude patrons

Good, pricey beer
by DanFazio_Citysearch
A good place to watch a soccer match, or get an obscure beer on tap. However, the casual bar hopper not looking for anything out of the ordinary might be disappointed with the cost of pitchers.
