Hidden Gem of Old Bellevue! I have been going here for years and love the place. Excellent spot for breakfast with a great menu and huge variety of fresh bagels and great pancakes, but the Matzo ball soup is absolutely fantastic.

I love Gilbert's on Main for the food and the fact that Old Bellevue has been somewhat preserved. It's nostalgic, staff is great, the new garbanzo and curry soup is delicious! I just remembered I forgot to ask for parmessan cheese over

I love that when I took my son there when he was 4 and ordered apple juice for him, Gilbert himself found a little umbrella to put in

This is the perfect place to go after a morning walk at the nearby park. The food portions are huge enough to share. Prices are reasonable for the area and you can easily split it with a friend. My friend and I loved the Bagel and Lox, Rueben and homemade soup. The server, Richie, that we had today was very friendly and fast. He was very kind and funny to my young child and made him laugh when he was getting cranky. We appreciated the prompt service and excellent food!

When in doubt - head to a predictably good spot for lunch. Their combo lunches are perfect - you only have to decide which soup to add to the towering sandwich.

I've been tio Gilbert's several times over the years, and always been disappointed. It's a tiny hole in the wall, with limited seating, and crude but functional furniture. You place your order at the counter, where other patrons are either dithering over the menu, or too busy talking with their friends. The servers are brusque, and probably overworked. Iced tea and lemonades come in towering narrow glasses, half filled with fruit, and topped with stupid little mai-tai umbrellas. Today, I ordered their signature salami and eggs. First they got the order wrong, and the server seemed inclined to tell me it was my error. When the right order came, the eggs were an unremarkable scramble. The salami looked like a single slice that had been julienned and then waved over the grill. The potatoes looked to have been boiled first, then cooked on a grill just long enough to make the skins look dirty. Not worth $20 overall.

Since I travel a lot as an Entertainer, the great spots stand out. I shoot their food, menus, etc. with my cell phone. Pass these on to fans & friends..

Gilbert's on Main is a classic Deli - by NYC standards. The mile-high stacked Reubens, with pastrami and crunchy cole slaw for sour kraut. Tall bottomless savory ice teas with lemons and umbrellas. Breakfasts I like are omelets - terrific! - or lox on bagel (the best). My daughter's partial to their died-and-gone-to-heaven Cajun chicken on greens' salad, or pear and cheese salad. Homemade soups & Matso balls are good, too.

Music's great on weekends. The Eastside's finest seem to gather here. Families span several generations.

Steve Gilbert, the savvy owner, has added LITE menu items during the week. $3.95 gets you a healthy petite French toast or pancake and egg. I can sure use that!

I first met Steve on Mercer Island hawking bagels. That was twenty years ago. He's become a legend now in Bellevue. Truly engaging and caring guy - and great staff!

PS> Several top firms I deal with on Eastside use his catering services for business luncheons. Every detail seems to be looked after, they say. And prices are reasonable.

It may get a little crowded at Gilbert's but who wants to eat in an empty restaurant? Loved the bagels and lox this weekend. Great atmoshere. A little pricey but that keeps the riff-raff out. I like this place a lot!

I did a search for a bakery in Bellevue and Gilbert came up almost on top with 70 revues. We decided to give it a shot... Well, that's the last time we go to Old Main in the morning. You have to be able to deal with people before you go there. It was a hassle to find a parking spot, the line in the cafe was 10 minutes long. Breakfast bagels go at about $9. There's no bagel on the East Side worth that much money, even though their stuff is good you can pick up bagels and pancakes just as good in 10 other places around for about 2 times less. No tables were immediately available, patrons sit so close they rub elbows with each other. It takes a long while for them to clean the table. All things considered, we didn't get poisoned, but it wasn't an enjoyable experience. They also had live jazz on Sunday morning. Call me old-fashioned, but jazz is an evening music for me.

Just a tip, the portions are huge! If you share the meal there will definitely be enough food.

Mr. Gilbert has created an incredible experience at his restaurant. It is full of ambience and just plain good food! But the best thing about it is the personal touch that he himself brings to the establishment. He is the KING of customer service!

A friend of mine took me to Gilbert's 8 months ago and I immeditely fell in love with the place. Steve Gilbert (the owner) takes your order at the counter and gives great advice on what will suit your taste. The food is phenominal! My favorite is the Tuna with Chipotle cream cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread. Abosolutely amazing! They have great breakfast choices- omelettes, eggs and pancakes that are all tasty! The lunch choices include salads that are to die for (my favorite is the "first date salad"), bagel sandwiches, melts, and deli sandwiches. I have taken everyone I know there at least once and everyone loves it! It is my "go-to" place to take friends- I know they will never be disappointed with the food, service and atmosphere. They have live music there at lunch time on Sundays! Gilbert's is a staple for us- we go there at least once a week.

I've been to Gilberts numerous times. The owner of the store is awesome! However, the manager christina is never organized and can't keep her orders straight (very unfriendly). expect to get your food first and your drink ten mins later or they might even forget about your drink altogether...

I'm visitng from Colorado and asked the hotel staff where I could get a bite to eat. They recommended this place nearby called Gilbert's so I headed that way. Not being too adventurous about my food I ordered a simple roast beef sandwich. It was so packed with beef I could barely hold it. Being a carnivore, I really enjoyed the meat with just enough "other stuff" to help it go down.
The people were friendly and I hope to get breakfast there before I leave (I hear it's great).

Being an east-coaster, I LIVE for delicious bagels, cream cheese, and home-made jam. Gilbert's will not let you down in any department! Their home-made freezer strawberry jam is some of the best I've ever tasted and is a great treat. While these are great options, those on a health-kick can opt for one or two eggs (any-style) with nutritious options like tomato, spinach, basil, etc. It's a great little eatery with a great little neighborhood feel and warm, friendly service. Go back for lunch, their sandwich options are some of the best in town!

I love Gilbert's on Main Street! It has wonderfully delicious food and big portions with very reasonable prices. The European flair and artistic surroundings are a nice change of pace from the typical restaurant. The touch of class shows in everything from very customizable food items to fresh citrus essence in their water. The owner is almost always running the counter and is so friendly and helpful.
If you love great breakfast and gourmet lunch, you have to check out Gilbert's! It is habit-forming. ;-)

Bangin-Breakfast ! For real...! Service is superior, prices are better than any diner or pancake barn or even Denny's...Think real NYC bagels, not the doughy, super market plastic bag six pack, but chunks of jalepeneos
covered in cheddar cheese ---Those go quick, could be the under $ 5 mini scrambles, that come with a toasted bagel. I can order, relax and eat and sip my coffee and start my day off and get out of there in under 30
minutes if I'm not in a rush...smile...To top off my morning I usually indulge myself in a deep dark chunk of
'Serious Dark' from Amore Chocolates about a block East.........Enjoy

we (thebreadcrumb + 3 guests) recently had the opportunity to try out some items at gilbert's, owned by steve gilbert who has got to be one of the most outgoing, friendly and passionate restaurant owners that i have met yet. gilbert's is a cozy setting reminescent of a european bistro. we were eager to bask in its warmth especially after confronting the frigid weather and snow flurries on sunday.

kandi savored the hot seared garlic chicken cesar salad and quite the fru fru ice tea

tracy tried out the special pear salad

another favorite was the split pea soup with a dallop of the tomato soup (for contrasting flavors)

*expect to hear from us more, as we will be checking out their crepes soon!

Gilbert's on Main is officially my favorite place to get lunch in Bellevue. I've been there a few times now and have never been disappointed with their food, service, queue, or anything. They have a very high standard for quality which I fully appreciate.

I went for lunch with a coworker yesterday afternoon and we both had the most delightful lunch. I had a traditional turkey sandwich with a "first date" salad on the side, and my coworker had the maple honey glazed turkey sandwich with a poached pear salad on the side. My sandwich was very good (soft thick bread, flavorful turkey, and the dijon mustard is so sweet and tangy) and the salad was the perfect accompaniment (strawberries, dates, Gorgonzola, pine nuts, apple vinaigrette.... what's not to like?!). My coworker was entirely impressed with her lunch as well. We will both be returning for lunch frequently in the future.

This is the best place to have a casual yet delicious lunch in Bellevue. I've heard their breakfast is outstanding as well, so I will have to make a point to try that out sometime too!

Pros: Food Quality, Service, Ambience

Cons: Parking

My husband and I like to take Fridays off to go for walks and eat breakfast out. One of our favorite places is Gilbert's on Main. We love Gilbert's not only for their warm ambiance and New York cafe feel but the food is wonderful. Everything we've had is fresh, they have a variety of combinations for their scrambles and omelets and if you prefer something altogether different they will make that for you. Today I was delighted to take my girlfriends daughter to breakfast at Gilbert's, it was her first time there. She was curious about this curried scramble but wasn't sure she'd like it. Gilbert ran to the back and made her a "taste" . Of course she LOVED IT!!! As did I. Now where can you get such personalized service like that these days? Gilbert's is a busy place ,always hopping, but don't let that intimidate you. They always seem to make room for one more. Once you've been there I guarantee you'll want to come back, if only just for the varied bagels, cream cheese and freezer jam. YUMMMM

Gilbert's really does have the best soup and sandwiches on the Eastside! Yes, the wait can be a little long when it's busy, but that's true of most any good place to eat . The staff is friendly and courteous, and Steve Gilbert is real class act. The breakfasts are very good as well, but the lunches are my favorite, French Onion soup with half a Rueben... heaven!

Gilbert's makes the best sandwich ever constructed by man. The Number 9 is absolutley huge and packed with pastrami and roast beef. It counts as two meals because you will be done after the first half. Girls tend to go for the Number 1, which is less intimidating but also delicious. The owner, Steve Gilbert (I know his name only because he is extremely friendly and always makes sure things are going well), is great. I highly recomend this place to anyone and always bring friends from out of town there to try the sandwich that I always talk about.

I've lived in Bellevue for a long time, and for some reason never tried Gilbert's (on old Main St.). After eating breakfast there recently I can honestly say it's the best bagel place in the greater Eastside area. It's cheap (incredibly cheap on weekday mornings; something like $2 for a FULL breakfast), and every single item I tried down to the potato salad that came with my bagel was homemade and delicious. The soup was also great. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good, affordable breakfast in Bellevue!

Pros: Incredible food, extremely friendly management, affordable (best deals in the morning)

Cons: After eating here no other bagel place will ever quite cut it

I decided to try a new breakfast place in bellevue, and came across Gilbert's cafe. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly and Gilbert was available to make suggestion's from the menu. The hot turkey and swiss bagel sandwich is to DIE for! The flavors are innovative and fresh and the portions are large, enough to share with your plus one. I HIGHLY recommend Gilbert's to anyone craving a seriously delectable treat!

Pros: Seriously delectable food and live music!!!

Cons: May get crowded, so it's best to go at non-peak hours

.

Very warm and friendly atmosphere with great homestyle cooking. Generous sandwiches and savory homemade soups. Nice paring of cheeses with omlettes and salads too. Live music on weekend days.
