John is the man! I had a different "plumber" (that's another story) do the rough-in work for my bathroom remodel. He managed to mess up pretty much everything he touched.

I decided to find a real plumber (licensed, bonded, and insured) to do the finish work- set the vanity, sinks, toilet, shower controls, etc. I made an appointment with Bates.

The other workers were getting ready to close up the walls when I discovered some more mistakes by the first plumber.

I called Bates on a Friday to get their opinion, they listened patiently, had me text him pictures and then said he'd like to take a look before everything was closed up, so he came over the next morning (SATURDAY morning). Bates showed up right on time checked everythIng out and found yet more problems (the first guy had set up the drain line to run right into the frame of the vanity, etc). Bates gave me several scenarios to get things fixed and kept me on schedule. While he was there he also spent about 30 minutes troubleshooting and fixing my garbage disposal which I thought was toast- turned out one of the workers had dropped a nail in it which Bates surgically extracted. What did he charge me for this preliminary Saturday visit and garbage disposal repair? Nothing.

Bates did an awesome job doing both rough in and finish work, he even talked me off the ledge when we discovered that "discount plumber" had even managed to reverse the hot and cold supply on the shower. Bates straightened it out in no time. His pricing is very fair, he doesn't charge for travel, breaks, etc. He was here for almost 9 hours and charged me 5.5 hours labor.

I couldn't recommend John with Bates plumbing more highly. And learned from my mistake- make sure anyone you call is REALLY a plumber, ask for their license, insurance and bond info FIRST.

We were doing a remodel with an addition, and the addition included a new master bath. Bates Plumbing was hired by our contractor as the subcontractor to do the plumbing work. In the process we've had 4 leaks, 5 if you don't count the last two that occurred at the same time as one occurrence. Two of the leaks were on the pressure side of the system, and three were in the drains. There is also a recurring problem with some sort of blockage in the drains from the new plumbing, causing the system to back up and flood areas. The good news is that the back ups are what brought the latest leaks to light. The bad news is that now there is an area about ten feet by fifteen feet of sheetrock that has been torn from the ceiling over the dinning room and kitchen directly below the new bath. This is an area that has just had new custom cabinets installed, and we've just finished laying new hardwood floors. We were ready to move furniture back into the area. We were expecting company from out of state this weekend for our daughter's wedding in a week and a half, now we're not sure what state the house will be in. We also find we're no longer confident of the rest of the plumbing job, and always feel that something else is going to go wrong.Usually it seems that with new plumbing work, leaks are a rare occurrence. Leaks are usually the result of either a broken fitting, or worn gaskets or seals. In our case, we've had four (or five) with just the addition of one new bath. Frankly I don't feel I could recommend Bates Plumbing. It's a shame really, all their employees seemed like nice guys, friendly and personable, and very apologetic. Unfortunately there was a lot to apologize for.
