Gold's Deceptive Contract  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

I signed up for Gold's Convention Center location. I wanted temporary monthly or month to month membership. I went for a while and then cancelled. A few months later I wanted to start again. I told them I had belonged before and that I would like to rejoin on a monthly membership. I was able to cancel the prior membership with no problem by sending in a written request. I assumed this time would be no different. But was I shocked to find out they now do not allow cancellation. They should be required to tell you verbally that the contract cannot be cancelled. Aside from that at the time I go to use the gym there are consistently no towels, ever. And the grout in the tile in the women's showers is deteriorating. I was never offered any type of consultation or assistance whatsoever with any of their equipment and assume that was due to the fact that I am an older, overweight woman as opposed to being young and cute.

PROS: The monthly rate is cheap at $40. Huge place with tons of equipment.
CONS: No assistance or guidance, no idea how to use most of the stuff.

Excellent  5 Star Rating - World class

When I worked downtown I used Gold's Gym near Pike Market and was always happy that it was not over crowded during the day and the equipment like most Gold's Gyms is up to date and well maintained. You can meet some interesting people there as well.

Great Facilities, Very Poor Customer Service.  1 Star Rating - Unsatisfactory

I was a member of the Convention Center Gold's Gym for about a year, and was very happy with their facilities. Although they were pricey for my income (about $42 a month) , I found the convenience of the location and private women's workout facility to be great.

My only issue with this gym was when I quit. I went through all the official procedures, but they continued to charge me for 3 months after I closed my membership. When I contacted by phone with my concerns, they casually said they never had filed my closing paperwork, and never apologized. They then dragged their feet in issuing me refund checks; I had to call them many times, endure a rude manager who treated me as if I had done something wrong. Never once was I apologized to. Manager claimed it was a recurring problem with their contracted payment company, and that other customers had been affected. Terrible experience, yuck.

PROS: Great facilities, private women's workout area, free yoga and other classes. Friendly counter people.
CONS: Terrible customer service, rude management experience, and no willingness to help you when they make billing mistakes.
