I'm happy with this place

by Steven T.

I'm pretty happy with this groomer..My first dog sir pugdude couldn't wait to go everytime I took him there. He strutted like he was big dog on campus there. I now take my 2 dogs bug and jake to them and they have been good to them, even with one dog Jake being a bit skittish. I have been going there for the last 9 years and continue to go.

Pretty Paws Knows how to Groom Dogs!

by Kathleen M.

I have been taking my 4 toy poodles to Kathy at Pretty Paws every month for over 7 years now -- I have never had a negitive experience & my dogs love her! Kathy's great & I would never consider taking them anywhere else.

Pretty Paws makes my baby happy

by Michelle O.

I have taken my Peekapoo to Pretty Paws on a handful of occasions. He usually is long overdue when I bring him in (hate to admit). He is also shy and timid. They have consistently done a good job and he is always in a much better mood when I pick him up, than when I drop him off. He (Murray) likes them, so I like them. Murray is kind of a snob and he doesn't like grooming, but they still make him happy and he always looks good.

Pretty Paws is cruel to animals!

by Sara L.

I would not recommend Pretty Paws! They did not take care of my dog at all. I got there a little early and watched them groom my dog and she was crying and yelping very loud because they were not handling her very well at all. She has never had any problems at the groomers until I took her to this place. Not only did my dog come back to me looking horrible because they did not do what i asked but she was shaking and very scared. I do not think that they take care of the animals that come into their shop! When I dropped my dog off the back door was open and I saw a dog in the bath all wet crying and trying to get out with nobody around. I was there for almost 20 minutes, as there was a line to check in your pet, and the poor dog was in the tub crying and yelping all wet the entire time. I did not feel good about leaving my dog there and should have gone with my instincts because they are cruel to the animals that come in! My dog was there for 6 hours and when I told the lady I would bring her back because I didn't want her to sit in a cage all day she acted like I was stupid for even thinking that my dog would sit in a cage, but she did because previous places I've taken her only take a couple of hours...not all day! Do not take your dog here, not only will your dog come back poorly groomed but most likely poorly treated as well!

Pretty Paws is a good deal

by L J.

We have taken our Cocker Spaniel to Pretty Paws for grooming for the past 3 to 4 years and are for the most part satisfied with the treatment she receives. The owner charges reasonable rates to board her for us when we go on short trips out of town, sometimes for several days. As to the poor reviews I have seen, we think they may be overly critical. Some may have a point about lack of consistent quality in service. We have had our dog come back with minor cuts twice. There does seem to be a lot of animals in there at once, perhaps due to overbooking?, and it has occured to us that not all the grooming staff are as good as the senior staff, who again are quite good. But we continue to be happy with Pretty Paws.

Don't take your pet to Pretty Paws

by Kellie B.

I had taken my dog to Pretty Paws on several occasions with fine results. However the most recent visit ended with bloody paws. I picked my dog up and was charged $45.00. I took her out to my car and when she jumped in I saw bloody foot prints all over the seats. I took her back in and was treated so rudely by the groomers I was shocked. They did 3 three things wrong:
1: I was not told they had "trimmed" her nails twice
2: Not only did I not get an apology or any compassion shown to my dog but was told "it's not a big deal, stop making such a big deal out of this, it happens all the time"
3: They still charged me for the bloody nail trim.

If you care about your pets do not take them to "bloody paws"

Very Satisfied Customer for Over 3 Years

by Rachel V.

I recently moved away from West Seattle and lost my cell phone so I had to look up the Pretty Paws number on Google. As always Google did its job and there was my favorite groomer prominently displayed. As I jotted down the number I noticed that there was a poor review of Kathy and her staff which immediately prompted me to write this review. For all of you who have written a negative word about Pretty Paws shame on you! First of all, the reason you bring your dog to a groomer is because you are too lazy to groom them yourself. You don't want to go through the hassle of the squirming, biting, yelping, and dripping that goes on in the grooming process. Pretty Paws handles even the most difficult of dogs without complaint. Kathy and her crew have been doing an incredible job on my 2 Chocolate Cockers (FYI extremely difficult cut) and Jack Russell for over 3 years. When they come home from the groomers they are very happy and very frisky. In fact, Kathy has boarded my dogs on many occasions and I have been nothing but please with how my dogs have been treated. If what I have written so far does not convince you that Pretty Paws is an excellent choice for grooming maybe this will. In order to get my dogs groomed at Pretty Paws I now have to drive 25 miles in each direction... Now if that isnt a true sign of a loyal and satisfied customer I dont know what is! Keep up the great work Pretty Paws and I will see you on Saturday!

My cats love Pretty Paws

by Colleen W.

There is no reason for these negative reviews. I took my cat Scrabble there, and he is one difficult feline. They did a great job on him and he smelled fresh and was soft and brushed out for the first time in a long time. I can't deal with him at home, he is impossible to bathe. I watched them groom him and they are gentle and kind to the animals. I am taking my second cat in tomorrow. I talked to the owner and found out the story on the negative review. I would recommend Pretty Paws to other cat owners. And don't forget to give the owner a hug. She's a very nice lady.

You and your business are really a piece of work...

by Zander D.

First I want to let anyone reading this know that I take my Dogs for grooming every 6-8 weeks. I am more than willing to pay top dollor for a good cut and great treatment of my Dogs. With that said my Dogs are very well behaved and very well taken care of. My Dogs eyes were not draining as the owner of Pretty Paws has written in her rebuttle to my review, nor were they matted- my Dogs have sensitive skin, which Pretty Paws was made aware of at the time we brought them in for grooming- My Dogs have never been matted! You really take the cake for trying to spin your poorly ran business back on the owners of said pets in all of the reviews. When what it all really comes down to is this- if you were doing a fantastic job with peoples Pets your work would speak for itself and you would not have to respond back to peoples honest reviews with lies. It's such a shame and makes me sad for you.
This really speaks volumes about you, your shop and the caliber of service you provid, no one really needs to say anything more!

You can make the choice....

by E T.

'Lets all face it this place is awful!" I think you can already tell by the reviews and responses of the business owner on the caliber this business exemplifies anyhow? All you have to do is walk in and you get the immediate vibe as the shop is super loud, very chaotic, dirty, grubby and dusty. Not to mention there is piles of stuff all over the place. Its just radiates a stressful environment and I am sad that I put my pet through this place twice. I am the partner of the owner that brought in our Shih Tzus last summer and they did a bad job on them. You can read the review below from Zander-- I was not involved with the first review but was particularly offended on the response by the owners which prompted me to write this review of this business as well.

Now to be very honest our dogs were NOT AT ALL horribly matted and I think it is so horrible that they would say that in response-- though Im not surprised! Go in and meet them and you will know what I mean. Our dogs do have a sensitive skin condition as do most shih tzus and that was advised to them so they would not buzz them really close with the buzz clippers and to be sensitive to it. Now I truly believe what happened with the injured eye and the bad hair cut to one of our dogs was not intentional but I also truly believe that this isn't the type of groomer I want to take or risk my pets too anyhow/ that was and is the bottom line. We had a bad experience and it seems to be a common thread on review sites on this place. Now I am sure they have a small clientele that fits in with the service they receive and that's great but sadly all you have to do is ask around as we live in a small community and its just common knowledge and fact that you just don't send your pets to Pretty Paws as it isn't pretty at all! You may risk your pet getting clipper burns or nicks and a very poor haircut. Or sometimes maybe not and its your choice to give it a shot as we did. I honestly cant recommend this shop to anyone! We had the same groomer for many years and we she moved we were in transition during this bad experience--we have since found a very nice, grooming shop in Burien where my 3 dogs and I are happy. I encourage you to keep looking!

Or just pop in and see what vibe you get from the place! You should always go with your initial felling about a place and you will get that once you walk in the door- You will know if its right for you and your pet(s) Just trust me on this one!

Reliable, Ethical, Professional

by Eric I.

My Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier has a regular groomer in Los Angeles, but when in Seattle, we always go to Pretty Paws as a friend of mine suggested.

Ethical: I once witnessed a groomer tell Kathy the owner that one of the mats wasn't a mat, but an abscess. Kathy immediately sent the dog to a vet when the owner's phone went unanswered.

As for the grooming, I usually bring a photo with me to show the groomer--yes I'm that picky. The first time at Pretty Paws I forgot the photo. YES, I'm the annoying client in front of you who takes 10 minutes and says "A traditional cut, but puppy-looking, without a beard, and make the ears..."

The cut was perfect. And on time.

Finally, as to the negative reviews, it looks to me that they are customers who can only afford to bring their dog in once a year, and expect a show dog at a discount price.

Awful - you get what you pay for!

by Pat C.

The only good thing I can say about this grooming shop is they are cheaper than some - but you get what you pay for! Their work is very inconsistant - sometimes OK, sometimes awful - and the shop is loud and chaotic. A very stressful environment for most animals. Instead of scheduling an in and out appointment time, they want you to leave your pet all day. In the three times I had my dog groomed here, he has come home with nicks, clipper burns, bleeding nails - not to mention very poor haircuts. I would not recommend this shop to anyone! I've found another very nice, calm grooming shop in Burien where both my dog and I are treated like royalty. So keep looking!

I agree with that guy!

by Jim L.

My dogs were terrible on a grooming table to the point that their old groomer told us not to return. The people at Pretty Paws have turned them into groomer's dreams! With patience rather than anger they taught my dogs that a groom shop need not be a torture chamber. I've seen the owner dripping blood from a cat bite (yes, they even groom cats) but never even a razor burn on my dogs, like at the old groomer. Keep up the good work Pretty Paws!

Where do these reviewers come from?

by Phil B.

I have been using Pretty Paws as my only groomer for the last 6 or 7 years. All I have to do is mention "Auntie Kathy" to make my dogs dance with excitement. My dog Paris (she's a rescue, she came with the name) barks with excitement in the car (nearly deafening me) from the time she is a block away and races in to jump around making a fool of herself. If any of the ridiculous scenarios listed here had a thread of truth to them, why would my dogs LOVE the place? You should not have to defend yourself to these people, your REAL clients love you!

If you love your pet don't go here!

I have taken my two Lhasa's here several times. I have since heard how badly they treat the animals there. I then experienced it myself.I believe they were abusive to one of my pets.

Response from this business:

Abusive is Strong Language replied on 08/18/08
If you took your dogs several times and were happy and had one bad experience, that doesn't constitute abuse. Using the word abusive is slanderous and unless you have some specific incident that you experienced, I would refrain from saying this as this could be construed as malicious interference in the operation of my business. Perhaps another way to look at your bad experience is that the staff was having a bad day. We are all human!

Not Happy w/ Pretty Paws

by Zander S.

I took my two Shih Tzu's in the Pretty Paws the first time and was very happy. Then I took them in for a second visit and had a completely different experience. First thing I noticed was my male Dogs right ear hair looked different than his left. After inspecting it further it turns out they cut almost all of the hair off of his right ear but left a few strands so that it would appear the same length as his left ear. Instead of being upfront and saying look we had a mishap and accidentally cut off his right ear hair they decided to try to cover it up and say nothing. As if I would not notice my Sons missing ear hair! later that evening I noticed my female was squinting and her eyes were watery. I took a closer look and notice a large white spot on her right eye. I took her to the Vet Monday morning and as it turns out both of her eyes were injured- The Vet said it could have been injuries resulting from abrasive soap, clippers or scissors. Needless to say I'm more than upset and am now stuck with a $300 vet bill I never would have had if I had choosen to take my Babies somewhere else. My Dogs are very well behaved and I have been told repeatedly by my previous groomers how well they act and how easy they are to groom.
After talking with a coworker who also lives in Burien I found out she had a similar experience. She took her two Dogs to Pretty Paws twice. The first visit was wonderful, great cuts, the Dogs seemed happy etc. She took them back for a second visit and the Dogs hair cuts were bad and they didnt even clip their toenails!

I will not be back to Pretty Paws ever again-
I would not recommend their services to anyone.

Response from this business:

Why didn't you mention the horrible condition your dogs were in replied on 08/18/08
It seems that it might have been a little more thorough to mention that your dogs were in horrible matted condition and both of your dogs had medical skin conditions as well an enormous amount of eye drainage and irritation when they arrived at the shop. Maybe you could've mentioned that you had someone babysitting the dogs and they had been extremely stressed in your absence. And I didn't see any mention of the apology you offered when you brought them in about their bad condition. The hair on the ear was probably an oversight, not a deception. I am sorry that you choose to write a dissertation instead of just give us a call so that we may have resolved this in a satisfactory way.

Great Care of my Pets!

by Roberta M.

I have taken my elderly and overweight lab to Pretty Paws for 4 years and they have been nothing but kind, gentle and have done a fabulous job with his grooming. I now have a new "baby" Goldendoodle, and he too has been very well taken care of and loved by everyone at Pretty Paws. Both of my dogs know when we drive up to the adorable building and get very excited to visit their friends. I highly recommend Pretty Paws.

Wonderful

by Anonymous

I have been taking my Schnauzer to Pretty Paws for several years. My dog is always happy to see me when I pick her up and looks beautiful. The first few times they asked me how I wanted her cut (Schnauzers can be hard) and now they already know - and she only goes in about 4 times a year. I have met the owner many times and she is a kind caring woman. I would recommend Pretty Paws to anyone without hesitation!

I checked it out and the reports don't seem accurate

by Kathleen M.

After reading all these horrible reviews, I called the shop and talked to the groomers. I went into the store to see for myself what everyone was writing about. I found the shop darling, clean, friendly and after a tour, I made an appt. I am so pleased! This is the best haircut my dog has had in a long, long time. So it seems that just the angry few are writing and not all the happy customers, go ahead, you will be happy you did!

How did they get 4 stars?

by Anonymous

How dows a business with this many complaints against it get 4 stars on the front page of their directory? The only positive comments come from their own employees. This is very deceiving. I should have read further before trusting my dog to these people. He was supposed to be ready an hour ago and now they tell me that he will be done around 2:30p.m. That is 3 hours later than originally planned. I am unhappy about him being locked in a cage all day because they over booked their clients. I am unhappy with the choice I made to trust these people with my pet.

Response from this business:

We don't lock dogs in cages all day replied on 08/18/08
Being tardy is not okay, and my apologies to you on that matter. We try to take really good care of the pets offering water and taking dogs outside to potty. Many shops don't ever take dogs outside to potty, but I feel it is the kindest way. I would disagree about overbooking clients unless you have some accurate knowledge about running a grooming business with live animals. If you have real knowledge I am all ears. Lastly, it is false that the only positive comments come from employees. I actually come from a journalistic background and these reviews and chats don't have any ethical standards as in print, one of the flaws of the internet. I didn't see you tell everyone that you ran out of the shop and got on your laptop and wrote this forever review in a fit of anger, because we watched you doing it.

Bad experience

by Anonymous

A few years ago we had a very fragile but loving dog. He needed bathing and trimming on a regular basis. My wife did it for a long time, but because of back trouble started taking him to Pretty Paws. This was one of the gentlest dogs in the world. After each trip to PP he would show signs of having been hurt. He would cower when reached for and show his teeth when being searched for injuries. This was so out of character for this dog that we quit going there. We thought that they were out of business soon after. We now know that they just moved. We question their ethics and demeanor with our pets. We urge caution!

Don't risk the welfare of your precious pet

by D G.

It is NOT WORTH THE RISK! These people SHOULD NOT BE IN THE BUSINESS OF CARING FOR ANIMALS! I used them for doggy daycare for my very fragile, very old, and BLIND Yorkie. A friend of mine, who picked her up daily for me, missed closing time a few times (despite all my efforts with her to correct the problem). The last time this happened I got a voicemail from Pretty Paws at work stating they were closing the shop and leaving my dog there. I could pick her up the next day when they opened if I wanted to. I was beside myself with grief and was frantic. She was a very fragile little dog who might not survive being left there overnight due to the stress she would suffer from such an experience. As they left no forwarding number for me I called the store and left messages pleading to have my dog back, with no response. Luckily after searching for 4 hours for any phone number found under the owner's name, I was able to speak with the owner's husband who told me how inconvenient it would be to meet me at the store and then DEMANDED I pay in full for every hour she had been there! When we arrived and opened the doors my dog was very stressed, crying loudly, not knowing what on earth was happening to her.

These people DO NOT PUT ANIMALS FIRST and should not be in the business of caring for animals!!!

I did you a special favor replied on 08/18/08
I did you a huge favor by watching your dog. You never picked up your dog you expected your friend to do all the picking up and dropping off. When you failed to pick up the 6 messages that were left you and after waiting until 7 pm, we kenneled Olive and went home. You spent 3 hours calling to get our home numbers, and called my 80 year old early dementia mother in law at 10 pm at night and threatened her, terrifying her. You were met at the shop at 10:30 pm at night and now you don't apologize for terrifying an old lady, not picking up your phone messages, not picking up your dog and now you blame the shop. You are the kind of person that makes businesses not want to do special favors for people. I will tell you that it didn't work for me.

These groomers are ok. They are sorta slow and give me a hard time with my handicap dog. They are ok if you need a low-cost groomer. But other then that they are good. They take good care of my poochie, she can't see or hear anymore. they take her out for potty breaks when she needs it. so overall i give them 4 stars.

PROS: help with my dog
CONS: don't listen ot what she need

Great Service

by Kristina L.

If you need a groomer this is a great place to take your pet. My dog can be quite hard to manage. They are great with her and even suggested that I bring her in at the beginning of the day and pick her up at closing so she can have more time socializing with the other dogs.
