Save your money and spend it elsewhere. McDonald's would be a step up.

The food was so so and should be better for the prices you pay and the inattention from the wait staff.
We were never offered bread, to begin the dining experience. Drinks were late or didn't arrive at all, dessert menu was never offered or a request for after dinner drinks.

The service is terrible, the worst in the city! The only time the wait staff moved fast was when they were delivering bills to tables.
Save yourself some time and money and spend it elsewhere for a better dining experience.

Pros: Nice color on the wall

Cons: Terrible service, food

I live in the neighborhood and have been going to Mona's for years, and unfortunately it's changed recently. The food is just as good, or better, than it ever was, and the place generally looks and feels the same, but something has changed. It's probably the non-stop DJ music that makes it most unpleasant these days, as a spot to meet with friends and talk (note the "quiet" on the list of amenities; not the case anymore unless you happen to catch the place while it's dead). Also, strangely, while the food has remained on par, the food service has gone a bit lax, which takes away from the whole experience. We used to go there twice a week; not so much anymore.

Monas is a great bistro and jazz lounge. The perfect place to sit back with some great food and drinks while you listen to some of the smoothest jazz in Seattle. Great place for a date!

My boyfriend loves this restaurant and has been raving about it since the day we met so we decided to go for dinner on Saturday night. It was a pleasant night and not too busy. the restaurant was nice and small, nice ambience.

The service however, was a bit disappointing. We were told the specials for the night and after we ordered one of each (pork and guinea hen), we were told they were completely out of the pork and that we should order something else. (Why tell me the special if there is none? It gets us excited for nothing!) We were a bit disappointed but nevertheless, ordered something else. The food took a while to get to us, so we had a fantastic butter rum drink. When we ordered a second one (while still waiting for our food), it never came until we reminded the staff 20 minutes later. It finally came in the middle of our meal.

The food was good, I'll tell you that. After we were through, we asked for a box (leftover hen and risotto) and the server was kind enough to offer to box it for us. When we got home, we realized that all she boxed up was the risotto - she threw away an entire untouched half of the guinea hen dish! That was money simply wasted!

The food was great, the drinks were incredible and the server was very nice but all in all, I was just a bit disappointed in the overall service. I probably won't be going back.

I decided to take my girlfriend here for an anniversary dinner based on the reviews and its recommendation as a great date spot. They were pretty much dead on a Monday night. Our server seated us in the picture window by the door, presumably to show passersby outside that people actually dine there. I have no problem being used as a marketing ploy, but the big picture window and adjacent door made the space a little drafty. I should have asked to be moved to one of the dark corner tables. The space has a nice warm glow to it, but the bar in the middle of the room takes away from the mood. I would say it is a good friendly first date spot, but have a hard time calling any restaurant "romantic" when a television is in plane view from my table. Our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. He even brought out three different wines for my girlfriend to sample when she asked him for a recommended sweet red. For appetizers she ordered the cheese flight, which was very tasty and included homemade crackers with a touch of honey, a fig compote, roasted nuts and three cheeses (one of which somehow tasted exactly the way a farm smells, if you're into that sort of thing), I had the arugula salad, which was good, albeit it extremely oily, even for me. For our entrees I ordered the lamb shank. I'm not a huge lamb fan really, but I found it to be tasty. My lady had a seasonal dish: cheese and pea stuffed ravioli with asparagus. I found it to be very tasty, but it could have used a few more ravioli for the price. Both entrees were also a bit oily, which seems to be a theme at Mona's. Total cost of the meal (which also included one glass of wine and one very reasonably priced beer) was $103 with 20% gratuity. I would recommend going in for drinks and apps or maybe wine and desert (we didn't get any, but it sounded very good), I thought the entrees were a little prices for what you got. Also, a very small selection on all menu items.

We go out twice a week to Seattle restaurants with a mission to try every bistro in town. Our evening at Mona's was 2 hours 45 minutes of life gone and never to return. Waited 5 full minutes for anyone to speak to us at the door. This next part I swear is true - after being seated it was around 20 minutes before anyone spoke to us. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it is absurdly long -a Seattle record. The server acted like she had done us a favor so we could "get familiar with the menu." We made the wrong decision of just ordering appetizers and drinks when she finally came. After the apps and drinks came (another 20 minutes) we ordered our mains. Please note this is a "cozy, neighborhood bistro," which sounds to me like you should be able to enjoy a full course meal and drinks in no more than 90 relaxed minutes. Please note we left this place almost 3 hours after arriving. After we were finished with our salad (very good with arugula and a slice of cheese) and oysters (average) we waited 40 minutes for the mains. When my "lobster" ravioli arrived - $28 - I was over halfway through when I wondered aloud if I had been given the proper dish - no lobster to be found anywhere. 5 raviolis = $28 and one decent lobster bite in the last one. An entire evening gone - there was going to be a movie later...

I took my girlfriend out to Mona's last Friday night for our weekly date night. When we arrived (around 6:30pm) the lounge and dining room were already busy, but we were greeted immediately, and we fortunately were able to get a table. Their wine list looked pretty extensive, but we decided on cocktails that night. The martini was one of the best I've had in a while. The food was excellent, too. You HAVE to try the arugula salad. They drizzle truffled honey over it, and the slice of goat cheese over the top was to die for! All in all I'd say we had a great experience at Mona's. Since we went in on a Friday, it was a little loud, although still relaxed. If you're looking for something quiet, maybe earlier in the week would be better.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Mona's this weekend. It was our first time and everything was wonderful. It was difficult to find parking but that's just part of urban living. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, our cocktails were unique and delicious and the food was perfect. After appetizers(bruschetta), and salads, and an amazing Lamb Shank and Tuna, we simply could not eat anything else, but we will be back for dessert and more very soon.

Pros: Romantic, Great Food, Save room for dessert!!!

The first challenge is to find a parking space. Parking is on the street and may require several laps around the block. My husband finally found a spot in a church lot a couple of blocks away.

We were all a bit disappointed in Mona's after reading the reviews describing it as "romantic" and "darling." The atmosphere was loud enough that we sometimes had trouble hearing each other and the service was definitely lacking. The four of us felt that they were severely understaffed. I was the first to arrive in our party (we had a reservation) and waited quite a while before I was even noticed.

The mojitos were very good, as were the salads and bruschetta appetizer. The entrees were OK, not great. My pork loin arrived lukewarm and a tad overcooked and dry. The roast chicken with balsamic sauce was edible, but nothing special. On the other hand, the dessert with bananas, milk chocolate ice cream and hazelnut cake was wonderful.

They offer a well-balanced menu of wines by the glass.

No part of the meal was really stellar. Perhaps if the service had been more attentive, we would decide to go back to give it another chance.

Seems like Mona's just started with their Sunday brunch offering. Went there recently and we were alone with one other couple in the restaurant which isn't a bad thing if you're tired of hectic brunch settings with cramped tables and poor service.

The brunch menu is reasonably priced and the food tastes great. We even received a complimentary house made donut which was fantastic and I'm pretty sure the owner waited on our table which was a treat. Give the Sunday brunch a try. You won't be disappointed.

My wife and I were a little thrown off when entering the restaurant, expecting more of a romantic, intimate venue. The interior is dominated by a rather large bar that sits squarely in the center of the room. The very good, but too loud, jazz music was not our cup of tea either. The waitress, who was as sweet as can be, immediately turned down the music and we proceeded to our seats. My wife and I are both vegetarians, though we do eat fish at times. There is a separate vegetarian menu at Mona's consisting of four entrees. Our meal turned out to be one of the finest we've had in Seattle. My wife's polenta with greens and a red pepper sauce was simply divine, as was the butternut squash ravioli that I had. The salads were tasty, fresh with just the perfect amount of dressing. The service was just great, our waitress being extremely friendly and very accomodating. So, to wrap up, the place is essentially a bar with a rather funky interior with food and service to absolutely die for. We will, for sure, be back--many times I'm sure.

I'd nver been to Mona's before, but was looking for a good dessert date restaurant. The online dessert menu looked great, so my husband and I went with some friends. The environment is fabulous, very urban. The desserts were AMAZING!!! It was as if they had hand-crafted each one to look and taste phenomenally good. We will definitely be back here, and are going to try Mona's for dinner or happy hour sometime soon. My friend said they have a great happy hour with tapas.

Mona's is a darling little bistro. With great cocktails and tasty tapas served late, it is the perfect little romantic date place. The food is quite good, the artisan cheese plate has a wonderful selection and the calamari is just perfect. The interior is lovely. My girlfriend and I went to Mona's for Valentine's day. When we walked in, the place was packed with couples. Even though they were extremely busy, we felt like we were well taken care of right away. The ambience was perfect, and the five course tasting menu was delicious. They gave out roses to all of the ladies, and the chocolate covered strawberries delivered with the check were a great added touch. Excellent dinner, service, and overall experience.

Went on a Thursday night to celebrate Valentine's Day early as we were not in town for the day itself. Hardly anyone in the restaurant. Waitress barely grunted a word upon visiting our table. Drinks took so long to arrive (remember, few patrons in the place) we got up and left. Restaurant and Bar are one open room, so good luck with the "no smoking section".The rave reviews on the site must be written by Mona's staff...What exactly does "sexiest food" mean? I don't wanna know... As for ROMANTIC, consider your special night at Cheers (from the TV show) for an idea of what to expect, with a little dimmer lighting. Jack in the Box is a better bet.

If you haven't visited Mona's lately, it's time to return to a neighborhood favorite that has reclaimed its soul and injected fresh spirit into its food and cocktails. The above editorial is woefully out of date, as both the owners and chef of Mona's have changed in the last year, and they are elevating cocktails and cuisine to new levels of pleasure. On a recent visit, the night's special appetizer featured locally foraged porcini mushroom sauteed in brown butter and layered between slices of French Morbier cheese, the plate ringed with lavender honey gastrique...it might sound fancy, but the meltingly rich and earthy flavors tasted like the best grilled cheese you've never had in your life- ultimate soul food. The menu is predominately Italian, but inflected with flavors from throughout the Mediterranean, and relying heavily on local, seasonal, organic produce and meats as much as possible. I'm fortunate that I live close by, and am considering moving even closer so I can spend more time there. Oh, they also serve food to accompany the always first rate cocktails until 1 am Thursday through Saturday.

As you can tell I love small mom and pop shops. I support them and avoid big restaurants. Mona's is great. I avoid bringing any children along, this spot is not for them. This is definately the place for mom and dad to have a "date night". The only negative is sometimes it is hard to have an intimate conversation when the band starts to pick it up. Other than that, ditch the kids and enjoy the atmosphere. We are lucky up here in North Seattle, so many great restaurants not enough date nights.

Mona's has recently has new owners. The desserts are now made by one of the co-owners, a pastry chef . . . simply delightful and worth saving room after a wonderful dinner or just go in for dessert. The variety of live music is a lot of fun, and the downbeats from the evenings with the dj vibes a lively mood. I'm very glad they brought back the ravioli. I'm waiting for the filet mignon with gorgonzola, asapargus and garlic mashed potatoes to return. Start off with the arugula salad, you can't go wrong.

Mona's has consistently provided creative food, delightful drinks, and an ambience which takes us to Miami or New York if only for the night. We live in West Seattle so our visits are not as frequent as we would like, but the drive is always worth it. The baccala cakes and Cuban/Chinoise fusion satay excites your mouth and the portions leave you very satisfied. The martinis are original and perfectly mixed. The high ceilings allow for a live band in the background that does not drown out your conversations. If you like bossa nova and jazz, this is the place. When will you open another Mona's in West Seattle?

Monas, in my humble opinion is the nicest bar out of the city center. The staff is always prompt and engaging, they have a nice wine list for a small place. A beautiful bar, which is actually being expanded to double its current size. The crowd tends to be a bit older and more mature...not the professional drinker feel of so many bars north of downtown and off Capitol Hill. Often times they have a smokin' jazz band that just simply rocks, though a bit load for the small space; they could use some good djs playing downtempo and such...perfect space for that...mood lighting and big picturesque windows. It is my favorite spot.

Mona's is hard to rate, you nedd to break it down in a few areas. I ordered scallops for $ 20, was expecting the large bay scallops for that much money and some nicely prepared vegetables. I got 5 medium scallops, a potato tarte with some garbanzo beans and the whole thing was very dry. Well, it's a nice place, I may go back because it feels nice in there but they have some work to do. The dessert "panna cotta" was very good. Stay away from the tuna salad. We were the only ones there pretty much.

The blood orange seviche is absolutely fabulous as the starter and then the Halibut Cheek special was cooked perfect, nice and flakey with spice. My wife said the beet risotto was to die for. But the best thing was the Bombay Saphire, straight with a twist

Pros: Art on the wale

Cons: Bring back the olives

Overrated, overseasoned, overpriced! It was pretty salty, and the wine was ok.

This place is a gem. It's tucked away off 65th and Latona, which means you could miss it if you're not paying attention, but it's usually too not crowded. The food is to die for. They have great wine. It's expensive, but not bank busting. It's worth it. The atmosphere is very romantic. Candlelit. Wonderful. The bar area is great with cozy seating. A nice place for after dinner drinks and that first date kiss where no one is glaring at you like you're a pervert. Go there! It's great!

Their menu changes and usually has surprises. Eaten here many times, and they have the BEST martinis. Watch out, they go down like water! Usually I am more than satisfied (beet salad, duck, great chicken and salmon), but every once in a while, I have a dish that's too salty or a little expensive for the portions. The atmosphere is great, and the bands that are there are usually great too. Good place to kiss, romantic, definitely! Service has been a little spotty a few times.

Mona's does a great balancing act between the "Classy Destination Point" and "Comfortable Neighborhood Joint". If you live nearby, you should feel lucky to have such a jewel within walking distance... and if you live further out, it's easily enough to get to off of I-5 to make it a great place to head out to for dinner or drinks, or both!
