We decided to give the new owners a chance to come about after all the previous poor reviews. Our omelets were delicious as were the hash browns. The coffee was good, with lots of refills. The service was very friendly and quick, everyone was very pleasant. There seemed to be quite a few people coming in, possibly taking advantage of the "grand opening" 10%-off offer. The music was a soft background, not one that tries to compete with conversations. We'll be going back for sure!!

Pros: Delicious omelets, good parking

Cons: Decor is so-so

The worst nightmare imaginable is how I would describe our experience. Honest to God, it doesn't get any worse than *Van's Kitchen*. Upon entering there so-called kitchen, no one greeted us and the two children at the front counter simply ignored us. It wasn't that busy but all of the unoccupied tables were strewn with dirty dishes. We asked the *tweens* if one could be cleared for us and after a sigh, reluctantly did so. After a 5 minute wait one of the angry children came to our table and just stared at us with pen and paper in hand. No cordial greeting nor simple question like "what would you like to order?" Just stood there with this pissed-off look. How awkward was that? We initiated the conversation by ordering breakfast with coffee and waited 5 minutes for the coffee to arrive. After 20 additional minutes she returned to our table with our check and placed it between our empty coffee cups. We were puzzled since we had yet to receive our meals so we inquired at the counter and was told that our food was coming. During the next 10 minutes of waiting we witnessed another customer express his dismay at the counter and walk out. After spending a total of 40 minutes there, we decided enough was enough and decided to leave. We left the angry child a $5 bill to cover the coffee cost and voiced our disappointment by saying that we would never return. The response from the child was, "Good, I don't care." If you want to see dysfunction at its finest, go to Van's Kitchen.

Pros: Witness inmates running the asylum, thank God we didn't eat anything!

Cons: Filthy establishment with pissed-off kids at the helm.

This was probably the worst breakfast experience I have ever had. Like the other reviewer, we were waited on by a pre-teen girl who must have been angry at the world. We were seated in a side room surrounded by tables covered in dirth dishes that had not been cleared. When we left after our breakfast they had STILL NOT BEEN CLEARED and the flies were getting pretty annoying. When the child came up to take our order, she just stood there and stared at us - no "What would you like?" or "how can I help you?". My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, she looked at him, sighed loudly, and walked away. A minute later she came back and said "we're out of gravy". Ok...

The food was definitely nothing to brag about, on the verge of being cold, but at least it showed up. We waited to have out coffee/water refilled, but eventually had to get up and refill it ourselves. 2-3 times. When the owner saw this he started yelling at the little girl waiting on us. Obscenities were used. I feel bad for the girl.

Every time I drive by this place now I shudder and feel like I need to shower. I wish I could give negative stars.

Pros: See forced child labor at its finest!

Cons: food, service, cleanliness

Looking for a place like Maltby's closer to Bellevue, saw the rating and the posts on Van's.
Took my family in for a brunch relying on the previously posted remarks. We were waited by a kid who looked like she was 11 or 12 being forced to worked there (looked very cross). The food took at least 30 minutes to come out after the order (with the little girl). Coffee - bad, orange juice - costco brand, food - horrible, price - outrageous for how it tasted, cleanliness - average diner (truck stop). The previous posts were probably made by the owners. I would rather take my family to IHOP or Denny's. Don't believe the previous posts.... After promising a great brunch to my family, I really felt embarrassed. Next trip, back out to Maltby's...

Pros: Parking was good.

Cons: bad service, not clean, bad food

Van's is absolutely awesome. It's the last of the true "diners" left on the Eastside. It's family owned, family run, and an amazing value, especially for Kirkland's typically "high-ticket" fare. It's not pretentious, the breakfast is AMAZING (try the Chicken fried steak or the biscuits and gravy!!) This is a great breakfast/lunch joint!

The food at Van's cannot be compared to any other in the area. They've been around for over 30 years and still provide the best home-cooked meals! The atmosphere is relaxed and sometimes pretty entertaining. I recommend Van's to anyone and everyone with an appetite!

Van's is the only old fashioned breakfast left on Seattle's Eastside. Right up the hill from downtown Kirkland, Van's has been serving up home-cooked Americana for breakfast and lunch for more than 20 years.

Nothing beats the biscuits and gravy for breakfast, and the daily lunch special never fails to satisfy. I can't think of a place I would recommend more!
