I don??t go for the food; I go for the eavesdropping and make out possibilities. Don??t get me wrong, the food is good too, but the atmosphere is why I go back. The place feels like a maze of sorts, with curtained off booths hiding among curtained off booths. Some of them are good for snuggling up to your dining companion in the ??privacy? of the little booth, and others are so tiny (the two in the hall by the door) involve a lot of awkward knee bumping and trying to figure out where to put your purse when your glass and plate don??t even fit on the table. I??m also a bit of a voyeur and I love that everyone seems to think they are in private so they might talk a bit louder than say, if they could see that I was sitting a mere inch from them rather than being blocked by a curtain that is, surprise, not soundproof. These somewhat louder than average conversations might also be a bit more risqu than if the couple on the other side of the curtain could see me scribbling down notes to try out at home later. Not that I??ve done that?nope, I would never. Ahem. I also go for the STRONG drinks. I??m glad I live only a few blocks from Bleu Bistro so I can have one too many lemon drops (which for me would be 3) and giggly walk the short distance home. I have always loved their very thick drink menu because it seems as though the descriptions are actually someone??s instructions to themselves on how to make it. For example: ??Red Wagon Coffee. Start with a clear glass mug with a sweet treat on the side. Garnish with whip cream on top, fill mug with 1 ounce Don Pedro Brandy, ounce St Brendan??s Irish Cream, ounce of Frangelico. Fill with coffee.? Plan on spending some time reading through it while canoodling with your dining mate as that is half the fun. There is also a ??lost? item form in the back of the menu that is several pages long, and whether it??s been filled out already or you fill it out while you are there, it is highly entertaining (maybe more so after you have had a drink) to review the questions such as ??do you think our employees encouraged you to lose the item in question by plying you with alcohol? or something to that effect. As far as the food goes I tend to always get the same things, I like the Mac and Cheese, the Wasabi Grilled Cheese and the Stelter Salad is a must have for me as their hummus is my favorite hummus of all time. The Herb Cheese and Pears makes quite a spread and is fun to share if you have a few friends with you. But like I said, it??s really the making out and eavesdropping I enjoy the most.

Pros: "private" booths, strong drinks, cheap fare

As far as i'm concerned, Bleu Bistro has nearly everything going for it.

They used the french spelling of blue. They have a vast cocktail menu. They have a decent vegetarian selection (please note, *I* am not the vegetarian, The Boyfriend is and it's nice to find a place that can cater to the both of us). Last but definitely not least, when you sit down you kind of feel like you're in a private dining room. Each table is essentially its own secluded alcove complete with curtains you can draw to ensure your secret spy mission debrief is secure/sweet or dirty nothings whispered in your lover's ear stays in your lover's ear/giggles that you actually pulled the curtain closed to make other people think you're up to something don't travel so far as to make the other patrons actually just think you're crazy.

Pros: cozy atmosphere

Cons: parking

I loved the atmosphere, the cozy booths with curtains provided privacy for an intimate dining experience. The Wasabi tofu salad was quite delicious, easily one of my favorite salads in the entire city. A small bar provides unique cocktails and the wine selection is adequate. I would recommend this place for an intimate meal and a drink.

Bleu has a very cozy atmosphere, with the draped tables that give you tons of privacy. As wonderful as the atmosphere is, the food is even better. The macaroni and cheese is to die for. The prices are a little high, but for the quality and the atmosphere, it's worth it!

I went here last night for my birthday, we got a table right away (one they call the cave zone) but the people that came in behind us didn't have such an easy time. Past reviews have said this place is cramped and dimly lit...they weren't kidding. In the "cave zone" was the smallest table you've ever seen in your life and a single tiny table lamp...thats it. I could barely see my boyfriend sitting across from this child sized table of ours. Not saying thats a bad thing, it totally worked, It was super romantic and super secluded. The cave zone is great if you really want some privacy but if you're 6ft tall 250 pounds, like my poor boyfriend, this is not the table for you. Our food and drinks came promptly. We started off with the bunny wraps (feta cheese with salsa in a wrap) and it was amazing! A must try. Almost as soon as we were done with that our salads arrived, then our food following shortly after. The first drink I tried was called shake that a**, with a blend of triple sec, sweet and sour, banana liquer, blue caraco and orange juice. Super freaking good! Then I moved on to the long island ice tea, now knowing this drink was strong I decided to end the night with it, but I was unaware of just how strong it would be. First of all they bring it to you in a huge beer mug, not a tall slender glass, and its quite possibly the strongest drink I've ever had. I reccomend not ordering this if you do not want to get wasted. You definately get your monies worth on this drink. The prices at bleu bistro are a bit pricey but trust you me, the food and the drink are far worth it. This place was amazing! I will for sure be going here again.

Oh and as for the cameras, the cave zone doesn't have one. (tee hee) I really reccomend trying that table out if you're looking to have a (private) good time.

Cons: Your mom

Bleu Bistro has that fort-made-out-of- chairs-and- blankets feel to it, which is probably the main reason why this place is totally great, was even better when it had those claustrophobic multi-level cubbyholes, but still- it is like a parallel universe of comfort food and everything you would ever want to drink, including chartreuse-

I'm going here on Friday night so decided to check out reviews. Even though I haven't been here yet I'm giving it 5 stars based purely on the review by "thestrangerseattle" (2 down). A place that that provides the illusion of privacy so that you don't feel like a total tramp for doing in public things "decent" people would only do in the bedroom? I have found heaven on earth - at least outside of Manhattan.

I moved back from NYC a year ago and have been dying for some of the rawness that exists there. I once saw a couple almost have s8e4x - hand up her skirt, mouth on nipples - in the middle of the bar area. I'm talking no curtains, no table, just a lounge disk, and IT - WAS - HOT!!! It was like p7o9r1n happening in front of your eyes and you didn't have to feel weird and creepy like you went seeking it. It was just happening and poor you innocent little bystander got caught HAVING to watch. lol heh heh heh

Cannot wait for Friday night!

footnote: I cannot believe s7e3x7 and p0o9r1n are not allowed on this freakin conservative c+r7a9pp site! God, it's almost communist! But nipples is okay. Go figure!

Cons: conservative, stuffy Seattleites

A lovely little place. I've been there several times and had nothing but great experiences. As for the previous review, I don't know if there are cameras or not. And I don't care. I've never done anything at a table there that would bother me if the management saw!
Try the wasabi grilled cheese, it's inexpensive and delicious.

Curtained private nooks? Not likely! You may think the cozy nooks are hiding you from nearby tables but that's just the thing, look up. Almost every little nook has a hidden camera watching your every move. These perverts have rigged the place into an entire webcam to watch you kiss and talk to your date while under the false impression that you are private! More than likely when your waiter/waitress slips behind the curtain, they go back to spy on you on a computer screen! Probobly that's how they tell when you're ready for your check! If you are a voyeur than go ahead, you'll love this place. But if you have any decency, and respect your date's privacy, than this is not the place for you. The price of drinks is hefty compared to it's Broadway neighbors, and they charge tax on top of the liquor listed price. (don't they know that listed price of liquor isn't supposed to be taxed!) It's just a trick to make more money. Also, the drink menu looks incredibly similar to Julia's, only a few blocks away. The food is mediocre and not really very "Italian" as described. Go to Via Tribunali or Mackevelli for a real Capitol Hill Italian dining experience. If you want a romantic, private date, skip this place.

I have dined here about 4 times now and everytime is a great experience! The seating is intimate, fun and uniqie. As far as the review before mine.... It WAS totally rude of you to just seat youself and clear the table off . You obviously have no manners and have never worked in a bistro before. The staff there is great! They can get really slammed in there and they do have reservations at times. I will be taking yet another date there tonight!! I love it!!

On Friday night, my roommate and I decided to go on a journey for some food and drinks, we ate elsewhere and then walked past this great smelling place; Bleu Bistro. We went in, first impression, akward and uncomfortable just to get from the front doors to the back "bar" area. Still amped to try it out, my roommate cleared off a table so we could be seated and I went to the bar to grab our drinks. Upon my arrival back the waitress had kicked us out of the table saying that it was only for dinner guests, which was fine, but then she sat us at a bar stool and table that was literally in the corner, when another table became available and stayed empty for atleast 5 minutes we asked if we could sit there since both of us had to move out of peoples way everytime some one needed to go to the restroom. She still said no.
We finally ordered our drinks, each was $9, so it should taste good. Before the bartender would make the drinks she came over to check our IDs once again, since our waitress had already done so. When she also found that we were legit, my roomie and I heard the waitress and bartender talking about how rude we had been, when all we had wanted was to be comfortable since we were spending top dollar on drinks. Our drinks finally arrived and tasted unlike anything my roommate or myself can say on this website. Extremely disappointed and still thirsty, our waitress took 20 minutes to even ask if we wanted our ticket. We did ofcourse since neither of us even got close to finishing our drinks.
The table I asked about over half hour before was still open as we were exiting.
Rude Staff! Bad drinks, though I think they would have been better if the waitress had not talked bad about us to the bartender. Uncomfortable seating for drinks.

This is a great place for cocktails and an imaginative menu. We have been here many times and I must say the folks are very creative with their drinks! The ambience is cool too - very different and initmate. Dont want to detail it here to give details and spoil it for first timers :) They also have a lot of vegetarian appetizers and best of all, let you relax without checking in every 10 minutes on your table! Its in our top 10 places to hang out in Seattle.

One night we were looking for some good food, so of course we head to Broadway. We saw some people having a great time on the outside of Bleu, which we've overlooked several times. That night we decided to peek in and see what was going on inside this dark cave. What a great place to go for a romantic dinner with the curtains for privacy. Had the Italian quesadillas and a salad with baked goat cheese - delicious. Although the service was slow, we didn't mind as we were enjoying each other's company and the romantic ambience. Plan on going here for "special occassions"

Good place to hang out "Right" next to someone and not see them! It's dark and elusive interior is very chique (sp) and the hanging cloth provides an additional ounce of privacy while you eavesdrop over someones conversation. The food rocked! Try the grilled cheese sandwich... yeah it sounds weird but its GOOD!

I miss the old look! This place used to be a crazy-looking, bamboo, kinda disorganized... it was just crazy! and I liked it a lot! They have remodeled the whole restaurant, and it's not so cool anymore... (*_;) Still! They have great food and drinks! Their drinks are not watered down at all. An awesome place to hang out with your friends!

Obviously some of you have not tried the delicious pastas, very creative salads, fantastic cheese/garlic platter! In my opinion, this place is one of Seattle's best hidden secrets! I have frequented Pontevecchio Italian Bistro, La Fontana, Il Bistro...and this by far tops them on their pasta dishes/salads. I wondered what their secret was, until I found out one of the owners was Italian. The herbs/peppers are all very fresh, if you appreciate a very reasonably priced meal, that two can easily share, this is the place to be! Sometimes there is a wait on weekends, but a new smoke-free environment has made this a regular haunt for me & my boyfriend. I really like the waitresses/staff, they are always very kind, and try to get to your table a.s.a.p...of course, sometimes there can be a delay if things are crazy. It's definitely WORTH the wait!

i live only blocks from bleu and have been to the place maybe 7 or 8 times. especially if it's on friday evening, i call to see if they have a table in advance. i only had to wait once, for about 5 minutes to be seated!
everyone i had taken there loved it. even if you sit a few feet from the next group, the curtains and arrangement of tables/coves allows for privacy. the drinks are fantastic, and the food is perfect to share. a "salad" plate is enough for two people, easily. if you have 3 or 4 people, go for 2 plates and try as many things as possible.
the service is variable, but i have never encountered rudeness. then again, i go there for the food and to hang out with friends - in our semi-private booth, not be bothered every 5 minutes.

Saturday night, a group of just under 8 (thankfully) were seated and waited over 20 minutes for our drink order. After reading the cover of the ridiculous 50 page menu, I was drawn to the "parties of 8 will have a mandatory 25% tip and a minimum charge of $160.00. Considering the price of food is just higher than McDonalds, it was clear that we would need to drink - alot! I commented to the waitress that at 25%, a table would expect exceptional service, and could she check back more often. Her response, "I'll try". The food was mediocre at best, the waitress so upset she dropped the table and the manager came and gave the "if you treat us good, we treat you good" spiel. This place is a joke and I'll never return. The interior is cool - take a peek and then get some grub elsewhere.

I had enjoyed the overpriced drinks in what used to be a unique and somewhat fun environment. Tonight we had dinner with a few friends and were completely disappointed in the lack of service and in the delay in receiving our food. When we finally received the food, it was less than desireable. Overpriced for the taste/quality. I probably won't be back even for the drink. Very disappointing.

I went here with two friends and I hope to go back for a date because it is so romantic and the most unique restaurant I've been to. Too hard to describe in words, you just have to go there. We ended up there on a busy Friday night and had to wait a bit, when it looked like it was going to be awhile, the waitress brought us out a cheese/cracker plate on the house to hold us over. We all had the VLT - a vegetarian BLT and it was awesome. A bit too much food though, a hint to share it with your friend or date, it'll be plenty for two. Beers are overpriced, but I'd still go back. Loved it!

Went there for the first time Tuesday at about 8:30. Got seated pretty fast. Took about 20 minutes to get a menu. Ten minutes later I ordered a beer and my friend got water. Took almost 20 minutes to get a warm beer. I ordered dinner when my beer came. Never saw the waitress again until I went to find her about an hour twenty minutes later to find about my dinner. I asked how long it was going to be, she told me about another twenty minutes. I canceled the order. We ordered sandwiches fer chrise sake and it wasn't even busy.... About two hours from walking in the door and still no food. I hear they have a good vegetarian BLT but I'll never know. This place will never survive with service like that. I'll tell all of my friends of my experience and I won't be back.

Pros: There's an exit, Cool tables, There's an exit

Cons: SLOW, SLOW, Service is lame

as you enter this bistro, hidden rooms with drapes and curtains await in a dimlighted cozy place. colorful in a dark way, but such a great feeling for people like myself. the menu has a large amount of interesting tasty drinks and simple food but just tastes soooo exquisitely different than the norm of the simple food. for the couples, intimacy is a definate possibility in such a well-decorated place as this. i am sooooo grateful to my boyfriend for showing me this neato-neato place. now, the bleu bistro is a place that i must take everyone new to seattle to.

Once upon a time Bleu had, at the expense of fire code, the most marvelous environment in town, particularly due to two lofts which offered very intimate spaces to share drinks and dinner with your date. In the last year, however, they've had to remodel, lost several wonderful waitstaff and resized their portions.

Nonetheless, Bleu remains a favorite for dates. It is easy to lose track of time there; six hours later and you're surprised by last call. It still has a number of very secluded and private tables and their drink menu and bartending staff are both superb.

Their offerings aren't cheap ($9/drink, 15$/plate) although the portions are reasonable (even if smaller than they once were) - it can add up over a few hours. The waitstaff will usually recommend the Onassis Pasta which is fantastic. Their antipasta and cheese plates are also quite exceptional.

Its amazing how many place there are to sit in this small French styled bistro and yet you still feel as if you have complete privacy while eating dinner. The food at Bleu is excellent. One of my favorite restaurants in Seattle I recommend the BLT with fake bacon. YUMMY. Also try the feta nachos.

This place is great because every table is special and unique. No one will hear your conversation and you are swept away into this lush/funky environment. Their menu comes in a three ring binder because they have so many delicious drinks and food, all really special. The staff is quirky and sweet. They seem to like being there, and so do the customers. Low lighting, lots of red, and lots of charm make this a fun place to bring friends again and again.

There is nothing average about this place. If your in the mood for a different experience, this is it! The food was good, and the service was not bad, but the atmosphere was unbelievable, everyone should experience this at least once. It's all very cozy and exotic at the same time. Great for a date, we sat in this tiny little "chamber" for two close to the door with curtains that made our little table into a very private and personal nook. Unlike anywhere I've been before.

This was the most bizarre dining experiance I have ever had.

We sat in one of the lofts on the couch and alternately made out and ate/drank. The waitress was amazingly friendly and useful, but it took awhile for food to come from the kitchen. The menu was complicated, including a 10 page form for retrieving something from the Lost & Found.

The food was good, in a pretentious Seattle kind of way. The pasta was actually very good. The cheese plate had an assortment of very good, very fresh, non-standard cheeses.

Plan three hours for eating here.

I went to Bleu Bistro for the first time just a few nights ago and loved it!

Our server was friendly and personable. He seated I and my date in one of the secluded, loft seating areas -- we had a cozy couch to ourselves, lap trays to eat off of -- and he served us through a hole in the floor so as not to intrude upon us too much.

We had mojitos (amazingly yummy) and, upon our friendly server's recommendation, shared the Orion -- a portabella mushroom pasta that was scrumptious. For desert, fresh strawberries smothered in chocolate and coconut; very nice.

Between the atmosphere, the food, the well-made drinks, and the company, this ranks as one of the best dates I've had.

On my first visit to Bleu bistro I was throughly impressed. For lunch
a friendly server named Ryan greeted me and served me promptly and un-intrusively, He made me the best mohito I have ever tasted with ease and speed. The food was questionable but served swiftly and graciously
In the evening my experience at Bleu bistro was awful, the service was fake and impersonal, the food was terrible due to the overwhelming stench of their george forman grillers constantly roasting grease in the bathroom stall kitchen, in this unventilated, cramped, and throughly overpriced dive comfort was scarse and smoke burned my eyes.,
I would not reccomend this bar as a resturant, the only redeeming factor was the service during the day, which I hear has recently been closed, for "repairs" adding to the dissatisfaction of many daily regulars, who enjoyed the afternoon ambience.

It was wonderful to find great food and atmosphere that was affordable ($14.99 is the most expensive meal).

After reading the previous reviews, I expected poor service and limited parking. The service was slow, but our waiter and hostess were friendly and fun and we were in no hurry to leave. We easily found a $4 parking space on a Saturday night one half block from the restaurant. Upon returning at 10:00pm to our car, there were still several parking stalls available.

the drinks are fantastic, the atmosphere rocks and contrary to what a few reviewers here have said, the service is great.

yeah the parking sucks but welcome to capitol hill. try the bus or, if you're feeling lucky, a cab.

I had gone to this bar several times, but last time was told to make reservation because they were focusing on food. Honoring this, I made reservations for 7:30, but due to horrible parking didn't get there until 7:35 at which point the host rudely told me he gave my table up because I was late. When I pointed to my watch and my friend's watch, both of which said it was within the 7:30 range the guy continued to berate me for my tardiness, told me that the restaurant clock said it was 8:05 bar time, and never offered to get me the next available table. He repeatedly told me that next time I coud get a seat if I "came on time." Excuse me folks, I came here for service not to get a lecture on punctuality. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN AND WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND IT.

My friend and I stopped in for a couple of drinks after our dinner elsewhere on Broadway. We were seated in a claustrophobic, wooden, low-celinged alcove with a rustic Vietnamese POW camp chic, where we enjoyed quiet conversation along with two good and quite strong drinks each. After paying our nearly $50 tab for these four drinks we thought we'd take a moment for our heads to clear before hitting the road, but were told "Sorry guys, we need the table." The ink wasn't even dry on the credit card slip when we were asked to clear out, despite the thin Wednesday early-evening crowd and several empty seats at the bar. This place could learn from the dearly departed Beeliner Diner, which had a sign clearly posted that read "Eat It and Beat It" so that everyone knew the rules in advance.

Cons: attitude, service, wines-by-the-glass

This place has a fun atmosphere with one exception: it's pretty smoky inside. The service was extremely confused (they moved us three times) but friendly, if quite slow. The drinks and drink menu were fun and probably the best thing about the place. The food suffered from Huge Menu Syndrome: way too many things to do them all well, and your chances of ordering something that has been frozen forever are very high. Stick to the basics. The fish isn't good. I will be back for more cocktails though... the nifty interior is charming.

I LOVE this place! The menu is fairly hefty, (and about half filled with drinks!), the servers were friendly, and the food was delicious. But, the very best part is definitely the setting. The entire restaurant is filled with cozy little nooks & crannies, with couches & pillows galore! Very intimate, very fun!

I had heard of Bleu Bistro from friends and didn't truly appreciate what they were saying until I experienced it for myself! Wow! A great place to go if you're into environment, but not if you're claustrophobic. Some of the booths are low ceiling and small... personally I loved it.

this is my favorite place to eat anywhere. I recommend the chicken breast sandwich. IT IS EXQUISITE!!!! AND CHEAP!!!! This is also a great place for after-work get-togethers with friends. The design is cosy and fun. Great place to go on a date. There are special booths for couples who wish to be alone. There is a fabulous menu and Big Mike is a fun and friendly host. Definitely a great place for private parties or just simply a place to hang out. TRY IT OUT!!!!! IT'S WORTH IT!
