I checked them out ahead of time and confirmed they were experienced with my car, a Toyota. My car is only a few years old and in good condition, with slightly high mileage (for the years). I took it in for routine maintenance. Their write up afterwards sounded like there were some serious problems with the car, several items were marked as minimal in condition and they recommended replacing these parts. They also strongly recommended doing several services. When I asked about the services, they said "in their experience" the work needed to be done to prevent problems that would otherwise come up (implying it would suddenly break down if I did not do their recommendations). They added that the services needed to be done regularly (e.g. every 30,000 miles). I was suspicious as none of these items were in my maintenance manual. To double check this I talked in length to two dealers and two other auto repair shops, asking about the items I was told needed to be replaces as well as the services I was told should be done. ALL the places said these items did not have to be done on this brand car unless the components showed definite signs of wear and that for this car that typically did not happen until a very high mileage (another 5 years or so). ALL said the services were unnecessary and would not make a difference (especially at my mileage). I was very disappointed that they tried to scare me into doing unnecessary work (both now and in the future) with each item being several hundred dollars. Their work was overpriced, slightly higher then everyone else's prices and they didn't even do all the maintenance they were supposed to do (they said they don't go by the car manufacturer's materials, they get what should be done from somewhere else). One repair place was very concerned about what they missed, all 4 said to make sure I got it done (3D offered to do it for an additional price). I would never go here again and would strongly recommend others to find another place. There are honest car repair places out there. Find one that knows your car brand so they know what is needed and what is not needed. Find one that doesn't try to scare you into getting unneeded repairs and services done, saying how cars fall apart and then need emergency work if you don't do these unneeded repairs/services.
