This is a place that is hidden away in black diamond, quite a drive for many people but worth it!
After about a year of thinking "We should try that place!" we finally did!
We started off with some garlic cheesy bread with homemade marinara. This is something I would eat every day, but I think I'd gain 6456 pounds. Next was caesar salad. "not for garlic virgins" is right. I am a garlic lover and this was perfect for me. For our entrees, I had the vegetarian lasagna they were offering that night (I'm a vegetarian, and finding a place that has this many offerings for veggies is incredible considering its not a "veg" restaurant. The server went through several different options for me, including having the chef whip up a pasta and veggie dish that wasn't a special or on the menu! It really made me feel special. They even have vegan and/or gluten free options!) My hubby, who is not a vegetarian, had fettucine alfredo with homemade italian sausage. He loved it. After stuffing ourselves silly, we tried the tiramisu. It was delicious! And "not for people under 21."
The service was excellent. Attentive without being obnoxious. They even box your food for you, and label it with the date, restaurant's name, and what's inside!
Money is pretty tight for us right now, so we don't get to go out to eat much. But when we do, this is our new favorite spot!
Don't forget to try a raspberry martini!

I am hooked on mama's! I love the cozy homie feeling! I have been there the last 3 fridays with my husband. We love it! I think the service is great, and everyone is friendly! I love there steak and nibbled some of my husbands pasta, yum! The desert is to die for! In my opinion they are the best in town! I can't wait to go again!

I have tried this place 5 times and this is my review:

You get the feeling if you are not a regular that you will be ignored by the owner (mama) she is very smug, and will talk to certain customers only.
The food is hit and miss at best. On 3 occasions, I tried the lasagna -- the first time it was quite good. The second time it was dry on the inside and flavorless. The third time was the italian sausage and I got only one small piece of sausage in my entire dish. Very disappointing. I could easily cook up the pasta, add tomato sauce and cheese and not have to pay 11 dollars only to be let down.
The food is ala cart which means you dont get a salad with your entree (or bread), you pay 4 dollars extra for a small salad if you want one, and 7 dollars extra for bread (that's correct, or you get zero bread). You get 3 spoonfuls of soup (cup) for 4 dollars, the bowl at 6 dollars you will get more, but the cup is a joke.
The service is marginal, and they don't pay very close attention. They really try each time I've been there to force dessert on you. They will even suggest to the point of making you uncomfortable how you can always take it home with you (even the ice cream -- too ridiculous!).
I tried their lemon square 3 times. First time it was too sweet, the next two times were very, very tart. Whoever makes it does not know what they are doing. I also tried the tiramisu, and it was the same as what I make at home, nothing at all "special" like the servers make it sound.
I really found after the second visit how I disliked the owner talking only to certain customers and ignoring many others. It uniquely comes across like she mostly cares less about who eats at her restaurant. I've eaten at far better Italian restaurants.

I have traveled extensively and eaten in many wonderful restaurants throughout the United States. I have paid good monies for mediocre food. I have passed Mama's place many times saying I need to go in there. Well, I finally took the leap

My husband and I have been there twice, and we will not be back. Our first time they were out of steaks (um, hello? STEAKHOUSE!), so I had lasagna and he had spaghetti, which was okay, although not what we had wanted. We decided to give them another try a couple of weeks ago. The food was okay, but our server, who I was told is the owner, sat down and chatted with another table for close to half an hour, while I sat waiting for my pop refill and later for the bill. We felt like we were being ignored so she could chat with her friends. We were not impressed.

This was our second and last try at Mama Passarelli's and it is literally the worst food I have ever eaten. I cannot believe this place has any good reviews. The lasagna was absolutely tasteless, no seasoning at all. Previously, our party had the special and all four of us were convinced that this place uses jarred garlic.

I would rather eat toast for dinner than visit this place again.

If you want home cooking the way you wish you could have it, every day, this is the place.

Mama's feeds the hungry, and that's everyone who can take a breath! (She also donates time and significant personal resources to all the First Responders in the local area, such as Police, Fire, and Search & Rescue, and we all enjoy her chow at all hours of the day and night.)

Every mouthful of whatever Mama is cooking is a delightful experience, and you hate to put your fork down... so get over there more than once.

Loved the food. Great environment and great service.
Can't say enough good things about this place, so I am going to keep it simple, go try it.

Ewww is all I can say. The bread and water were good and that was about it. Everything else had a weird flavor and the service was bad. We were given a coupon for a free dinner and even at that price we won't be going back.

When you walk in -- if the aroma doesn't give you food coma, the food itself will. And Mama keeps you laughing the entire time! I dare you, DOUBLE DARE you to find a meal or a dessert that isn't "incredible". This lady is AMAAAAAZING -- wow, what she can do with food!! The stuff of legends. The setting is quaint and eccentric, and i love it. There's even a little sitting area to retire to with dessert if you like. It doesn't get any better than Mama's!!

If you are in Maple Valley / Covington / Black Diamond and have not tried Mama??s ?? you are in for a surprise. This is better than Mom makes, but not that fancy gourmet stuff you pay 35- 50 dollars for in Tukwila/Seattle/Bellevue. Prices are VERY reasonable ?? and families can afford this place easy ?? many locals make this a ONCE A WEEK stop. Especially as you get to know Ginger, a.k.a. ??Mama.? Very Casual ?? come as you are.

The toughest decision you will have is Soup or Salad? The SOUP IS FAMOUS ?? if you know about ??The Soup Ladies.? The Caesar Salad has a special dressing ?? heavy on garlic and it has a special ??kick? (secret ingredient ?? a little zip for your salad).

Steaks are generous and HAND CUT. Lots of pasta dishes and usually there is a light offering. Bread is for purchase only (does not come with the meal). Selection of local wines and a full bar menu is available with dinner.

Entres vary by season and whim of the cook ?? specials are often the best bet and offered daily Wednesday ?? Sunday. Special occasions like Valentine??s Day are always a buffet, making it possible for more people to enjoy the special offerings on the special days. Holidays and Friday / Saturday I recommend calling ahead in case reservation is necessary.

Just when you think it is over ?? there is always at least two or three fresh desserts to choose from. The tiramisu recipe is awesome ?? try this as well as any of the baked special goodies.

Mama Passarelli is the best. For special family get togethers just call or e-mail Ginger ahead of time. She will whip up something appropriate for the occasion; Maybe a special Birthday dessert or her to die for Eggplant Parmesan. By the way, don??t bother to cook for those special parties at your home, just have Ginger do the cooking and pick it up prior to the party. You won??t even have to tell your guests that you didn??t prepare it yourself!

I've taken my family here a couple of times, and every time we're very happy we went. The food is great and the atmosphere is amazing. Mama is really great about kids, which is great for us because we have 2 kids under 2 years old. Great restaurant!

One step in the door, and you realize you're in a special place. The odors of the nights specials wash over you, and you can't wait to try all of them. You had better like garlic, too, because just BREATHING in this place gets more garlic into your system than a full Italian meal at most places. And Mama is usually around, providing her personal touch.

I FINALLY got into Mama Passarelli's and I have to say I shouldn't have waited so long. Mama's is by far the best Italian food I have ever had. Several of us shared our meals so we could taste several entree's.
For an appetizer we started with bruschetta with a gorgonzola spread to start our tastes buds working. Next was the prime rib with horse radish soup, a unique and pleasing second course. As entrees, we sampled fresh four cheese ravioli with marinara, a lasagna and the house special Mama??s Ohhhh, Vodka Sauce, with homemade Italian Sausage. The sausage was so good we talked ??mama? into selling us some to take home.
We went on a Saturday night in mid November and had no trouble getting a table. Get there soon because as word gets out about this place, getting a table will be harder and harder. We are definitely going back again and again.

Calling something 'homemade' doesn't always make it worth the price. I think dinning out should be great, especially at these prices. It was mediocre at best. I said to my husband 'I could do better than this in a rush', he agreed. The lemon in the piccata sauce didn't taste like real fresh lemon. It was also poured over the pasta like soup, and not lightly accenting the dish as it should. I've spent a lot of time in Italy and never saw food served like that.

We've been there twice since it opened and both times, we experienced a wonderful meal and service. Having diabetes, it's nice that they have a "bottomless pizza" that has very few if any carbs in an entree. I love home-cooking which is really what you get here. And, if you like garilc, you won't be disappointed here. The portions are generous and my wife and I always take home a doggie bag. The owners, Ginger and Harvey, are wonderful hosts and people and the staff are polite and attentive. If you live in the South end, this restaurant is a wonderful place to go, for any occasion.

ama Passarellis Dinner House in Black Diamond is a wonderful family gathering place. The service was responsive and friendly. We have visited the Dinner House on Dinner & a Movie night (highly recommended) and also for our parents anniversary party. We enjoy the warm and friendly atmosphere very much.
