In Short
Trendy eatery's tchotchkes, TV and muted-toned walls are complemented by ample windows, which are ideal for Pike Place people-watching. Classic Thai cuisine is prepared with innovative twists. Miang lao--minced pork with dry shrimp, peanuts, garlic and tamarind juice--arrives in a crisp, edible cup. Tender Crying Tiger flank steak is grilled medium rare, while scallop seviche is gussied up with avocado, tomatoes and a citrus sauce. On the traditional side: chicken in green curry is a specialty.

Tasty, fresh Thai dishes

by Lori S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 106

I had dinner here a couple of months ago, and thought our food was delicious. We had pud thai, a green curry and shredded papaya salad. I also had some special, delicious jasmine tea. The ambience and style of this place is very nice.

Great food, good prices....mediocre service

by Sharie H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,018

Thyphoon has great Thai food at affordable prices. The restaurant decor is inspired and reminiscent of another time and place. The only down side is the service. It took us 25 minutes to get our food and then waited for what seemed an eternity to get our bill when we were finished. To avoid this, go during off hours for lunch or dinner.

NEVER go to the club event at night

by west2east

Worst crowd ever. Coming from NY you'd expect a better looking crowd, (not as fashionforward), but appropriate.
the bouncer or door handle dude or the promoter. whatever the loser with the mohawk had was a total loser.
1st and last experience.

Cons: nightlife

Good, But Not as Good as Redmond

by tangogirl88

We usually go to the Typhoon in Redmond, but decided to try the Seattle ones with some friends. The food was very good, but lacked something we experienced at the Redmond location. The service was friendly and excellent.

Pros: Wonderful food

Cons: Parking is expensive

Typhoon! is great Thai restaurant and is worth the outing. Excellent food, service, atmosphere

by critic25

Typhoon! was worth the trip to go out to!!. I had plenty of Thai food and I'm part Thai myself so I am very picky. It has great menu selection and friendly fast service due to changes in management I've heard. The server said the chefs are hand picked five star chefs from Thailand and it shows in the presentation and quality of the entrees. Try the Fish on Fire or the Three flavor Fish. The restaurant has a cozy elegant atmosphere that has Thai artifacts with a european feel. It's a great date place or family and business outings. I also notice it has a great happy hour selection. It's location is a little tricky since it is on Western avenue which is west of the Seattle Art Museum and before the waterfront boardwalk. I definitely though recommend Typhoon! as great restaurant to dine.

Pros: Food, atmosphere, service (new management)

Cons: Location is hidden

Good food and bad service.

by gqconley

Visually appealing with a contemporary asian-euro fusion for decor. Generous sized booths, casual/fun bar area, and all setup that the noise is relatively low at capacity.
Typhoon gets plusses on its setup.

Service was Below Average.
My wife and I arrived at 655 for a 7 reservation. No other customers waiting and the restaurant was at about 25% capacity. Immediately seated by maitre'de at a booth, no menu's and no conversation.
715 and still no menu's or waitstaff asking for drinks, the water runner had provided water by this time but did not speak english. During this 15 minute period, the person who would become our waiter had already walked by at least 3-4 times and looked at the table but kept walking.
720 I get up go to the front and get menu's on my own and hunt down the maitre'de and inquire about a waiter.
722 waiter comes by and gets drink order and food order in one go, apologizes for mixup. We order a French 75 and Jasmine Thai Tea for drinks, potstickers (for appetizer), Tom Yung Goong soup, Banana leaf wrapped trout, and jasmine rice.
745 Potstickers arrive. Great texture and taste.
805 Soup and fish arrive. The soup is the wrong order and ends up being a coconut curry chicken Tom Kah Gai. THe trout is perfectly cooked and has wonderful flavor.
807 Grab waiter for soup replacement.
820 New soup arrives, seems like a long time for soup that is not made to order. The Tom Yung Goong is not as flavorful as I have experience at other Thai restaurants, one lonely leaf of cilantro, no sweet/sour taste, just a salty broth with mushrooms and shrimp floating around and a dash of hot chili oil. Very bland.
830 Get bill and leave. Never received friendly vibes from waiter, did not make efforts to come by and provide updates during time that we were waiting for the soup. No apologies (except for the mixup at the start) for delays or food mixups on a night when the restaurant was not busy.

Will not return too many other good places to go...

Pros: Nice ambience and convenient location. Excellent Tea menu.

Cons: Bad, lackadaisical, indifferent service...
