I have been a long standing customer of GES for almost ten years. When I was a teenager I bought my first Passat and started making calls to local car repair shops to fix a problem I beleive existed. After being treated "like a girl who didnt know anything about cars" by several shops I called GES. Bill (owner) listened to what I had to say and respectfully discussed his thoughts about the problem. I decided to take my car to him and I was impressed with the price so I returned for follow up care.

I have since owned two different Passats and two different Jettas and have had my maintenance work done by GES on everyone of them. From small stuff like brakes, belts and window regulators to huge overhauls like timing belts, and transmission replacement each job was done with quality and care. The costs were always at or below the quote and I wasnt charged for stupid things. One time I had a rock stuck in my brake caliper, couldnt figure out what in the world was making that horrible sound. Swung by the shop and within minutes bill had it out - no charge. When it was time to do the timing belt, GES replaced all the seals on the top half of the engine without extra labor charge that other shops would have taken advantage of. My friend took his Jetta Wolfsburg to the VW dealer in Olympia and they couldnt figure out what his problem was. He took it to Firestone and they couldnt figure it out either. The whole process took him over a week and over $1000 just for no one to fix his car! I suggested GES to him and two weeks later he had a new transmission and was on the road again.

GES does wholesome quality repair jobs so you dont have to keep wasting your time getting little stuff fixed. Bill keeps you informed of any potential problems he finds and explains their relevance for you. They know german cars and can fix them easier than other shops. They use quality parts that I have never had to re-replace and my 99 Jetta has almost 200k miles but it runs just as good as it did with 70k.

Any true VW enthusiast know that german engineering is not cheap to maintain, but when you get quality repair jobs done you will spend less time at the shop and more time on the road enjoying your car for the long run. If you're looking for a quality business to take care of your cars then GES is it. You'll get the best wholesome job done for your car by a company that's been tried and true.
PROS: Great customer service, competitve prices, quality parts, quick turnaround
CONS:...parking in downtown olympia?

My wife and I are the original owners of a 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro. We are both landscape/nature photographers. Our van is used for expeditionary travel throughout western North America, traveling onto some very remote and uninhabited places in all seasons, and in all weather. Having reliable transportation in these locations is critical. That's why I travel over 800 miles one way to have Bill Bourg and his team at German Engine Service work on our van. Their knowledge and professional expertise has kept our van running strong over the years.

My VW Vanagon died on I-5 about 20 miles S of Olympia and had to be towed in. I live 100 miles away, and was on my way down to Oregon. Many shops would take advantage of this and really try to soak the motorist. Although they were very busy, they had a look at it soon after it was towed in. When they found that a wire had come detached from the fuel pump, they reattached and tightened the wire, checked some other connections, adjusted the idle, test drove the vehicle and then refused to accept any payment! On top of that they clearly knew their way around this vehicle, something that is getting very hard to find. I'm going to try and find a way to get my Vanagon down to Olympia and this shop whenever it needs work.

I took my TDI to German Engine Service because they were highly recommended for diesels by my friends. I had a check engine light on, they ended up changing a bunch of parts on my Jetta and never fixed the problem but charged me for all the parts and labor anyway. I took it to another shop and it was fixed within hours, ended up being a faulty solenoid. I would definitely not recommend them for any services. Apparently there has been a recent crew change and things are not what they use to be.

I took my 85 mercedes 300d to german engine service. It barely ran when it was cold, lots of shaking and smoking. After they did a tune up including a valve adjustment, it ran like a new car. Highly recommended.
