Decent fish and chips, but really not as good as Ivars. If you're in Ballard though, it is a pretty safe bet that the fish will be satisfying. More expensive than Ivars too.

Totem House has been around forever and is still the best fish n chips in Seattle. The chowder is amazing. Bring any out of town guests to the Totem House and then head over to the locks.

I think it's all about the flavor and quality of oil when it comes to breaded fish. Totem has it down pat, because every time I eat here the fish and chips are as good as it gets - makes my mouth very very happy. Highly recommended.

Totem is a true icon but deserves its reputation for having the best fish in Seattle. We also discovered after a year of eating New England clam chowder at EVERY place we could find ?? Totem is the VERY BEST. This place is good enough it should go on your list so that you do not only go there when you wonder to the locks.

This was hands down the worst fish & chips we've ever had. The cod was thin and breaded way too heavy and fried way too long. The batter crust on the fish was very hard. For two people we spent nearly $30.00 on 2 small order of cod & chips, small sodas and a pitiful shrimp cocktail, and I would have had a better meal at Long John Silvers.

Pros: service is nice

Cons: overpriced,terrible food

I was told this was a great place for local fish and chips. What I found was water based chowder, that tasted like chicken stalk and over cooked fish that I paid over $20.00 for an adult and child. No value what so ever.

You know you're it's real when you see them wheel out a tub of lard for the deep fryers! I am also a big fan of Spud F&C, but Totem has got them beat. Across the street from the Ballard locks, this place has been around for a long time and for good reason. The fillet's are Cod (not Pollock), crispy and incredibly flavorful (thanks to the lard). The fries are hot and crispy and the tartar is unparalleled. A must eat if you're anywhere near the neighborhood. Has Ivar's beat cold.
