I want to like this store since it is so close to my home but I don't. The employees are friendly and only reason I give it the stars I do. The prices are the same or higher than the much cleaner and just as friendly Safeway etc. I also

Eww, I live directly across the street from Red Apple on jackson and I still don't shop there unless I have to, and for non-perishable food. Where do I start. Okay one day I was in there and the store was really slow, I went to the only open register with my items and the cashier was talking to her friend. She motioned for me to come forward and I went to put my food down on the revolving whatever-their-called where you put your groceries while waiting in line. I noticed a dirty bowl and spoon that appeared to have had cereal in it previously, it was someones home dishes in the spot where I put my food! I asked her what it was, she said, "Oh, hahaha thats hers" and pointed to her friend. I said, "How can I put my groceries down if you have dirty dishes there? Isnt that pretty gross and unprofessional not to mention a health violation" Her friend chimed in, "Its no big deal" I said, "Actually it is, its sick!" and as I walked off. The cashier called me a b!tch. I called and left the manager a message about this appalling situation and never got a call back. Even if her friend was eating in the store, there had to be a hidden place or ANY other place to put those dishes that clearly didnt belong there, isnt that crazy?!

Other times I have been there I bought sour cream and got home and saw it was curdled, there are fruit flies swarming the produce and sticky things on the floor, pop is sticky, items are near expiration, bread aisle smells moldy, I don't know how they stay open. Oh, and they sell mexican pastries at the front that are all stale looking with dead flies trapped in the containers, who would buy that!!! And with all they lack, they still seem to have more expensive items then any other store in the area!

While I can't agree with the other reviewer who praised the music at Promenade Red Apple, it is a great grocery store. It's clean and has good prices and selection and the staff are very friendly. I often find myself striking up a conversation while I'm getting my espresso or checking out. There's also an excellent soul food selection, including fresh catfish and some other hard to find items.

PROS: soul food, friendly neighborhood atmosphere
CONS: muzak

no kidding, they play the best soul muzak in town. I love shopping here because you can get lost in the songs while shopping for pickles or whatever.
