food was good but had a soapy aftertaste like the dishes weren't clean...also found remnants of beans under food where shouldn't have been. would not go there again sadly to say.

OK, so it's no longer a secret... This family-owned Mexican joint is one of the best in Seattle...if you like authentic Mexican food over the tex-mex stuff. Madre makes the best borrego and chile rellenos, and the sons make everyone feel welcome. Lots of food, so come hungry or be prepared to have leftovers. If you like lamb, you HAVE to get the Borrego!

One of the best places to go for good real mexican food. It is a family owned restaurant and has a very nice friendly atmosphere. I live about 40 miles away, but the trip is always worth it. Any dish you order from the menu is great. I have tried many different things from their menu, but I usually order their barbacoa de borrego (lamb) and it is fantastic. I have never found any other place that serves borrego as good as this restaurant does. The staff are all very friendly. I have introduced this place to many friends and family. When choosing a place to have great mexican dishes, this is the place.

I always get veggie burritos and they have by far the best one I've ever had. Get it with the salsa de cream. My boyfriend always gets the nachos and says that they are the best! Also, I love the chips and salsa.

I never write reviews but this restaurant deserved one. Sooooo good! You have to try it!

This is my first post hopefully not my last, I grew up eating Mexican, I come from a mixed ethic Mexican and English American family, and I have savored lots of Mexican Cuisine. My family has lived in California, and New Mexico, now as a student I live in Ballard, Wa.

I have to say, place doesn't look like much on the outside, but from experince hole in the wall joints are always something special. Service was very friendly and fast, chips and salsa were, fresh ans decent, but hey it is not about the chips and salsa, at least I think. But I have a friend who says that the excellency of the chips and salsa reflect the food ahhhhhh noooo..........But if you guys are the typical chips and salsa critics go somewhere else, this place is all about the food.
I ordered Mole rojo(red) enchilada's also available in verde (green), fricken delicious, I have leftovers in the fridge right now because they don't skimp you on portions so I might have some more. Just tasting the beans, rice and the enchilada sauce I know they use omg "chili", not some toned down tomato puree covered in a pound of cheese to suit "gringo" tastes, no offense to the gringos. Need I say more their menu Has all the classics so check it out.
Points to consider ,
Pretty cheap around 8-15$ a Plate
Not fancy decor but clean and cozy
Service is friendly, makes you feel like part of the family
Closest Mexican food to California and New Mexico, in Washington, in my experience
Not for the types used to Azteca, Jalisco, Las Magaritas, chain like restaurants and not for watered down cheese a holic spice-a-phobes.
Also if your looking for contemporary Mexican (think Chevy's, Mexico, Desert Fire, Chiptole, Qdoba....) don't come here either
Worth the drive for a tasty experience
Right next to Tai Siam, on 15th and 83rd going north

Pros: Food to die and Go to Mexico for

Cons: exterior, not the best

We are regulars here and recognize all the family staff with whom we practice our broken Spanish with. We like the steak fajitas, lamb (falls off the bone), and enchilada suizas. The free chips and salsa are also very fresh and tasty. The first time we tried the fried ice cream I thought I had died and gone to heaven, but the second time it had a mushy crust and was not too good. But we love it there, the prices are great and they even offer free suckers as dessert, sometimes even tootsie pops!

Believe me; I'm always on the lookout for a good tamale. I love Mexican food and could eat it every day of the week for every meal. I made it a mission to seek out and try Mexican places all over Seattle, and I've been to many! This place is unassuming from the outside; it sits next to Thai Siam (great Thai food!) on 15th in Ballard/Crown Hill and looks like nothing special. But looks are deceiving! Inside is a happy family of great people who really know how to cook and serve! I've tried the entire menu; I usually come back to the Borego or the Camarones ala Diabla. But I come back. As often as I can. The people smile and wave (admitidly, I'm a regular and they know me now) but they treat everyone like a friend they haven't seen in a long time: Come in! Let me get you a drink! Let me get you something to eat! The food is ... breathtaking, and if they don't have THE best margarita in town, it's at least in the top five. Don't expect glitz or flash; it is a humble, family place. But they treat you so well, and the food... oh just go for the food.

Pros: The Food! So good! Nice, friendly people

Cons: Sometimes parking is a problem. Margaritas are so strong, you should enjoy only one.

I gotta "shout out" about the Restaurante Michoacan. This is the best mexican food in Seattle. There may be fancier and trendier places around, but the food at this place can't be beat. I will admit the street appeal is zero, but once you are inside you won't care. Large portions of fantastic food. Borrego lovers, you won't be disappointed. I hear they have a good happy hour too. This I haven't tried yet, but I will tonight! You should too.

Michoacan has to be one of Seattle's best kept secrets. The food is amazing. I have tried several things from their menu, and I have been impressed every time. The value is amazing too - each entree is at least enough for two or three meals! The service is great too, very friendly and accomodating.

Sometimes they have live music on the weekend evenings, which is always lively and fun.

It looks a little bit like a hole-in-the-wall, but trust me, this is the best Mexican food you will eat in this city!

The food and service are awesome. This resturant is family owned and they take care of you like you are a part of the family. The food is awesome, I especially like the Steak Fajitas and Macho Burrito. No skimping here. You could easily take some home a doggie bag and be full. A++++++ all the way around!

I love this place! I'm from the southwest and Mexican food in Seattle had been such a let down until I tried Michoacan. The building may look a bit sketchy from the outside, but the inside is clean and the people who work there are so friendly. The food is good and authenic. I've tried almost everything on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. My favorite is the pollo asado (grilled chicken that's marinated with the perfect amount of lime). The pollo mole rojo (chicken in a slightly spicy but sweet sauce) is also a winner. Their burritos are flavorful and enormous. Your jaw will drop when you see how big these babies are! You don't need reservations... there are always people there, but it's never jam packed... unless you go on Cinco de Mayo...
