Reviews for Gameworks

Ratings_icons great video games

edgar h.

I would give Gameworks 5 stars, but five stars is perfect, and nothing is perfect. What I like about Gameworks is that they change the prizes in the "U.F.O Catcher" very often. They have good prizes, and games that are older and newer. You can get a lot of points on your card for a good price. I reccomend Gameworks!!!

Ratings_icons Needs a facelift

Was excited to go but ended up underwhelmed. Kind of tired looking and feeling inside. I expected more, especially vintage games. I did like the cards that are used in place of quarters, and most of the machines seemed to be working.

Ratings_icons Family Fun

This was a clean and not too noisy gaming center. A little on the expensive side due to it's location in Downtown Seattle. It was appropriate for my kids age 6 and 9 while there were several teens hanging out also. There was an ineteresting ambiance with brick walls and a few places for seating. It didn't feel like a bunch of video games crammed into a small space. Our family's favorite game was the virtual batting cage.

PROS: A place for kids and adults to have fun
CONS: Costs a bit more than other places

This is the arcade for all ages. Expensive but worth it. The games are fantastic even for those who are typically not interested in arcade games. It is adults only at night (a good change of pace from a typical night out on the town); however during the day families are welcome. There is something here to entertain everyone. Love the racing game, get 8 friends and have a race! Food however is expensive and not good quality. Better to grab something at a nearby restaurant.

Ratings_icons One of our favorite places..

Elizabeth O. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,407

Yes, it can get spendy, but it's worth it if you can spend 4 hours eating dinner and playing games with your kids! The whole family always has a great time.

The food is good and the games are fun.

I will agree with some other reviewers though, there always seems to be at least 1 or 2 games out of service that we want to play.

Ratings_icons Price is the factor

Michael L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,505

If you are looking to play some videogames here, you pretty much have to get an hour play card. It is pointless to pay as you play because each credit is at least 25 cents more than at other places. For example, playing one game might usually cost 75 cents somewhere else, but it will cost 1.25 here. Security here is always beefy, which raises my eyebrow about how safe it is around here.

Gameworks is one of the most popular video game place in Seattle. My kids loved this place and always wanted to spend they're time there instead of touring Seattle. That didn't happen of course. They did have all the newest games and attractions.

Ratings_icons Lots of hype when it first opened but pretty much run-of-the-mill

Michelle Q. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 514

Gameworks was such a big deal when it first opened. However, now it has several rivals. The novelty has worn off a bit. The games are expensive and the place can be loud and crowded most of the time. Luckily, they do put coupons in the Entertainment book so I have used those. I like the upstairs with the token games, although it takes quite a few tickets to get something worthwhile (that you didn't need in the first place!). I've gotten other people addicted to those token games.

Ratings_icons Expensive, but lots of fun!

Sara G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,079

I have to say I stay away from Gameworks most of the time because it costs alot to play their games. However, it's worth it to go splurge every once in a while. They have a great selection of new games, an ok selection of old school games (Mrs. Pacman, Frogger, etc.), and some carnival games like Skeeball. Oh, and their Airhockey machine is pretty awesome. Only drawback is that it can get crowded and you have to wait for your game.

PROS: Fun if you like video games.
CONS: Can get crowded, expensive.

Ratings_icons not very exciting

shianxiu s. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 976

gameworks, i expected, is supposed to be a bunch of fun with lots of arcade games and what not. however, this gameworks, majority of the games i wanted to play were out of order. and the games that were working, were just not invigorating to my energetic senses. there was this one game, the horse game, and all you do is jump up and down---not exciting. and this other game was a virtual fight, but you had to do un-martial arts moves that did not make sense, thus, this game sucked. i can go on and on about the games, but i think you all know what i am talking about.

Ratings_icons Good Place for FUN!!

Matthew H. | insider Insider | Rank: 22,547

Tons of games of all kinds. For me I like the Pinball Machines and the shooting games. Great place for parties, hanging with friends, or waiting to go to the movies nextdoor at Meridian 16. Suggestion don't bring a lot of money because like me you might blow it all on video games. But overall its a cool fun place.

PROS:
CONS: The food is alright. Not recommed for little kids

Ratings_icons Fun but expensive!

Donald W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,996

When we go to Gameworks, we always have fun. Tons of games to play...lots to do. They even have a bar that looks over the game area for adults. The bad thing is, its pretty expensive. Between parking, games, and food youre spending a big hunk of cash. But if you dont mind that, definaely go..it's a good time!

Ratings_icons not that much fun

Heidi W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,215

My husband and I waited, and waited to go here, till all the hooplah died out. So we finally went... 10.00$ for parking. (not biggie, it is seattle for goodness sake) but then, we eat dinner in their resteraunt, that was 30.00$ (still no biggie) and then we buy 2 -20.00 all you can play cards (40.00$) and now it is adding up. 90.00$ so far. Well so we played the games, but this is what sucked, they were basically all the same 5 games, just different versions. There was racing, boxing, gun shooting, and surfing. Well after about 35 minutes there was no excitement, like I said it was the same 5 games, not very fun when you still have like 1 1/2 hours left. To me it was an experiance learned, but money wasted.

PROS: lots of games
CONS: no veriaty, lots of money

I like Gameworks.. but if I had children.. I would probably have to take out a loan just to get in.. I was very shocked at how expensive the games are. I dont know where a child would get the money.

Ratings_icons Enjoyable evening for the whole family

Rorke H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,849

OK, enjoyable for the whole family except possibly mom. Retro arcade games will appeal to the gen-X gamers, while the modern arcade games and hydraulic games will appeal to the younger kids. Another fun place to take guests from out of town.

Ratings_icons Expensive for what you get.

Jennifer B. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,650

Unless you happen to go to gameworks during their happy hour, it's extremely expensive to play games at gameworks. They have a balloon ride game that is extremely fun and interactive. They also have a racing game where 8 players sit side by side racing each other. Other than that, you can find the rest of the games at your local video game house and pay a ton less.

Ratings_icons Fun for the whole Family

Heather M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,325

Gameworks in downtown Seattle is fun for all ages. There are a wide variety of games and amusments to suit every taste. I highly suggest the ballon popping game ride!
While overall the atmosphere is very family friendly, evenings - especially on weekends are more geered towards adults. Drinks are served in the restauraunt. Might be a great spot for a low key date even!
In any case - kids of all ages will have a great time!

PROS: FUN!
CONS: Parking downtown.

Ratings_icons Good, All Around Arcade Place

Kevin D. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,672

Located in beautiful downtown Seattle. Two levels of arcade fun. This place keeps up to date with new games on a monthly basis. The many choices might seem overwhelming to some. Once you try a few out you're pretty much settled in. This is good fun for everyone but probably catering to teens and younger. The second floor also has a bar area for the worn out adults. Good beer choices, by the way. There are also ticket games for the folks that like to get prizes.

PROS: Location, Choices, Alcohol, Large Space
CONS: Not enough games for adults

Ratings_icons Fun if you are looking for a loud, somewhat expensive night at the arcade

Peter H. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,595

Gameworks combines a normal huge arcade with some big, expensive "rides" that you don't get just anywhere. It also has a bar and restaurant, which are OK, nothing to write home about. As an old man (38, which is old at this place), I really enjoy the "classic games room", which has oldies like Asteroids and Missile Command. It's also good fun to race against your friends. Don't go in thinking you'll jsut spend a few quarters, you need to buy a card to run anything here, and the money flows out QUICKLY. It can be very loud. Not a good place for a headache! :--)

Ratings_icons Great Place to Go w/Friends & Family

Yvonne B. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,338

Talk about a fun place to go for your child's next birthday party and/or a place to pre-funk before your next night on the town. The variet y of games here is amazing. They have something for everyone at all skill levels. Everything ranging from the Pac-Man type of games to interactive skateboarding and skiing games. Of course they have the usual shooting, martial arts, and racing games as well. They have a pretty good restaurant and bar as well that has Happy Hour specials, etc.

PROS: Lots of games, stuff to do for everyone, food, and drinks there as well. Free parking for two hours in nearby garages.
CONS: Food can be a little pricey.

This is a great place to be go with your friends and play video games if you do not want to sit around the house and play, we make up excuses of why we have to leave to go to the movies, because gameworks is right next door and we hit there first.

Ratings_icons I got my money back and more!

Beth C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,591

I was at game works playing some of the new games with my boyfriend. We were having so much fun when one of the games took money off my card and wouldn't let me play. My boyfriend shrugged it off and refused to try to get his money back. I took my card to the cashier and he put $10 on my card for the inconvenience. That is not normal and it was really nice!

Ratings_icons Game Works

teri j. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,916

If you have kids its most likely that they like to spend time playing video games. Game works is huge and has thousands of video games to keep kids occupied. Game Works has everything form the latest fighting games to the old school arcade games I grew up with. Remember Frogger? Be ready to drop an easy $30 on games. Theyre not 25 cents anymore! Theres also a small restaurant and bar located upstairs.
