Editorial Description by Citysearch
The Scene
Located in the dramatically remodeled Piston & Ring building, a former auto shop, this large, soaring space exudes warmth from its exposed wood beams and rafters. Large windows at the back expose a peek-a-boo view of the downtown skyline. The crowd of Capitol Hill hipsters and foodies dine at tightly packed tables in one of two rooms or mingle at the long bar.

The Food
The menu features Italian specialties not widely known outside the owners' native Romagna, like the tortelli starter, a pillow of savory potatoes encased in thin flatbread and topped with cured meats. Cheese-lovers should look no further than the wonderfully messy lasagna, a stack of ragu, béchamel and house-made spinach noodles. Tender boar ribs offer a tasty alternative to the usual secondi offerings. If there's still room for dessert, opt for affogato, a shot of espresso poured over ice cream.

Tasty Italian  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Crystal M. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,665

Best capresse salad I've ever had, amazing noodles with truffle butter, delicious cheese selections, wonderful wine and well made tiramisu. The gnocchi was tender and would've been better without the sauce that tasted a little of Chef Boyarde. But, that was the only thing not wonderful about the meal. We'll certainly be back!

A Restaurant With An Attitude 3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

By gforecki

I ate at La Spiga for the third time just recently (after staying away for quite a while) and sadly, came away with the same conclusion I had the first two times. The atmosphere is fabulous, the menu and wine list are intriguing, and the food is very good. Unfortunately, this all gets overshadowed by the attitude that seems to be pervasive among the wait staff and management. Basically, everyone seems to be just a little put out, too busy or simply snotty about being in the customer service business. Considering there are literally hundreds of excellent restaurants in the city I would rather take my hard earned money somewhere that makes me feel welcome.

Pros: great food, great atmosphere
Cons: service that makes you feel indignant

Yum! 4 Star Rating - Very good

We stopped by on a Saturday night, no reservations and they were able to seat 4 of us in the bar right away. First time I had been there, food was excellent, server was helpful and friendly. I highly recommend the lasagna, probably the BEST I have ever had.

Pros: great atomosphere, fabulous food

Went here for the first time and loved it. We sat at the bar and had a great meal. Loved the simple entrees and fabulous flavors from each dish we tried.

The portions are too small 3 Star Rating - Satisfactory

By marcover

I had dinner there yesterday and I ordered affettati misti as aptetizer and malfatti as entree. The food was good (not excellent) however the malfatti dish was half of the standard portion. I had to eat more at home since I was starving when I was back. Considering that a dish of malfatti costs $15 (plus taxes and tips goes up to $20), I'd expect a reasonable portion to fill out my stomach.

Pros: nice location, food from Romagna
Cons: service, size of the entree
