A co worker recommended Emerald City Auto to me so I gave them a try for a noise I was hearing in my front end. They found 2 bad ball joints, called with an estimate about 2 hours after I dropped the car off I gave them the ok to replace

I took my car to Emerald City last summer to replace the clutch. It took a week or so to get finished for some reason, that was never explained, didn't figure it out til later.

I finally pick it up and they tell me reverse is sticky and it will work its way out. When I get into reverse its grinding. I trust them because I had always gotten good service from them prior to this incident.

The grinding never gets better and I get used to it and somewhat forget about it. I take the car in for an unrelated matter. When I get the car back again, I can immediately feel that someone tinkered with the clutch (without my permission). It feels very smooth and I think they have actually fixed it this time. The next day I can barely get into reverse, first, or second. I am sometimes starting from third gear from a dead stop because it takes all my strength to get it in gear.

I take it back to emerald city the next day. I get really vague answers about it being the transmission going bad and they told me I should scrap my car.

I don't believe its the transmission so i get a second opinion. A transmission specialist tells me it is not the transmission but the clutch.

1. Emerald City installed a defective clutch into my car.

2. Instead of re-ordering a clutch that wasn't defective they ground down my clutch arm to try to get it to release properly. Hence the grinding reverse gear.

3. They installed washers in another attempt to 'fix' the defective clutch.

I had to pay the new guy to replace the defective clutch. I eventually re-couped a portion of the money i lost but it took weeks of calling (multiple times a day) and tracking the owner down to do so.

The worst part is that multiple people lied to my face when they knew exactly what was wrong with my car, and they told to scrap it based on a false claim.

I'm happy to report that my car is running beautifully again.

Pros: defective clutch kit makes a great paper weight

Cons: they ghetto-rigged my clutch

.I took my car to these guys this last week on 10-09-2009 because my check engine light was on. I did not tell them I had taken my car to another shop for a price quote on Tuesday. The quote they gave me was for the exact same repairs as the first shop and Emerald city was 46.00 cheaper than my first quote. I had Emerald City perform the repairs, everything went PERFECT it came to the same cost they had quoted me and the work was completed the same day 2 hours earlier than they had said when I dropped my car off. While I was there they also performed a FREE safety check and found I needed front brakes and a cooling system service. I went home and called around to compare prices on these repairs and found them to be cheaper again. I will make an appointment tomorrow morning to get the additional repairs done. When I found out how fair and honest they were on Friday I told some of my co workers who will also be taking there cars to Emerald City for repairs in the near future.

Pros: Fast Service, Honest and fair Prices

Cons: None I Could Find

.

I had a wonderful experience at this shop, the atmosphere was definately rustic, would liked to have seen more. I had called for a quote for doing my brakes and diagnose an engine problem, I left it there for them too look at while I walked to get some lunch and I hadn't even made it half way through my lunch before I was called to tell me they had figured out the engine problem and how much it would be for the brake work, they were very reasonably priced and was able to finish it the same Day!! When I got the car back it ran great!!When I asked about the type of parts they used and why some didn't match what the dealer sold, they gave me a Manufacturer service bulitin that showed the correct part to use for my vehicle to fix a design flaw. And they even gave me a list of other areas that could use some TLC in the future. Which is good cause winter is coming and I had never thought how important my coolant can be and how much damage it could do if not changed.

Very friendly, I will definately take my car in their for the rest of the service it will need.

Pros: Quick response and accurate quotes

Cons: Office not clearly marked, needs bigger sign at roadside

If I write down everything these guys have done to screw me over, this review would be like 3 pages long. So I will keep it short and sweet. Don't go there!
They totally overcharge for shoddy work at best. After they replaced my EGR valve, i have had to go back 3 TIMES (!!) because it still wasnt fixed. The check engine light came on again 2 days after the second time they were supposed to have repaired it, so i took it in to get a second opinion and found out not only did they overcharge me for parts, but that some of the parts were rebuilt.
I called AC Delco and the EGR valve is $169. Emerald City charged me $209. Not only did they overcharge me, they didnt even use new parts or put the gasket in (which comes in the box with the EGR valve).
In total, Emerald City charged me $310 for parts and labor and Tony (at Tony's Greenwood auto) quoted me at $209 to do the same job.
I went in to Emerald city today and asked for a refund. Don (the owner?) told me to "shove it up my a*#". how professional.
If you want your car repaired correctly the first time, not to get ripped off, or to be treated with any respect, DO NOT patronize this business

My car broke down about 8 miles from my home and regular mechanic. Tow truck driver recommended Emerald City Auto Repair. The repair shop called with an estimate to replace my fuel pump, I called my normal repair shop to ask his opinion and he said the price Emerald City quoted was 60.00 less than what he would have charged so I went ahead with the repairs at Emerald City. The car was done that afternoon as promised!! I not used to that as my regular mechanic takes a day or more to repair my car. After picking my car up I found out they had also replaced the fuel filter and that was included in the quoted price! My regular mechanic told me it would be an additional 40.00 to replace the filter when I called for his quote. The service was VERY friendly and fast!!!!! The decor is out of this world, like stepping back into the 50s. I have found a new repair shop for all of my repair needs. Will recommend to all of my friends and co workers

Since these guys have my information on file, I will be discreet. I've checked the reviews, and these guys had a pretty good reputation, so I had them work on my vehicle. I had 2 problems that required service. One was a part that went dead, the other was a dead battery. They made the repair really fast. I received the phone call a day and a half later stating the part was replaced, and they also put in a new battery... the cost was just over $1000; about $300 more than I hoped, but I had the cash and dealt with it. While on the phone, I was told that it starts just fine, but now that they had a chance to test it in working order, they noticed there was a serious problem with the power-steering motor. I was asked if I wanted it to be replaced before I came to pick it up. I declined, because I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER-STEERING BEFORE IT WENT TO THE SHOP, ever, and figured I would need to drive it to understand what they were talking about. I got there about an hour later, paid the bill, and then started it up. That was the good part! When I was pulling out of the spot to get on the road, I understood what they were talking about regarding the steering. It was like I never had power-steering. It was extremely hard to turn, and it "pulsed" whenever I turned the wheel, even slightly. I GOT HOME, POPPED THE HOOD, AND REALIZED 2 THINGS WERE SERIOUSLY WRONG!!! #1 They had installed the largest, most expensive battery they had, and #2... NO POWER-STEERING FLUID!! These guys run a garage, but DIDN'T CHECK THE STEERING FLUID? Really?? They wanted to install a new steering motor, but didn't see I was extremely low on fluid? I drove to the store and bought a $3 bottle of power-steering fluid, and I have not had a problem ever since. I have no proof, other than the fact I NEVER had a problem with the steering, but I still feel like they drained the fluid out. Again, I have no proof, but the size and cost of the battery they installed tells me they took me for a chump.

Emerald City is a place I know that Ii do not have to wprry about whether they are giving me an honest assessment of my vehicle needs, the shop manager has given me confidence that they will not onlyy look out for my vehicle but me also understanding in these tight times that keeping costs under control and offering the most for my dollar makes me a loyal customer

These guys are as fair and honest as it gets!! Took my car in to them after taking it to a tire store next door that could not fix it after 3 days and $1200.00 in unneeded repairs. They had it diagnosed and called me back 2 hours later with a diagnoses and price to repair a burnt valve. Told them to go a head and fix it after I called a couple of other shops to compare costs [Emerald city was over $100.00 less than other quotes], they were done in 1 1/2 days and the price was EXACTLY what they quoted me!! The car has not run this well the entire time I have owned it, Go see the guys at Emerald City Auto repair you will happy you did! Wish I had found them before I wasted $1200.00.

When someone gives you a quote of a certain amount it will cost before working on the vehicle, this doesn't mean once the mechanic looks under the hood of your vehicle, that he won't see other problems that you or he never knew about. The customer isn't working on the car to know what is going on with it, the mechanic has to do that. I know there are some businesses out there that are cut throats because I have worked for some of them types of shops in the past; but there are some shops that aren't cut throats and Emerald City Auto Repair isn't one of the bad guys you feel they are. It seems to me that you may have gone to a few repair shops in the past that did you wrong, and due to that, you assumed Emerald City Auto Repair was doing the same to you because they came across some other issues with your vehicle that needed attention.

My original 5 star review read like this: "Just got my car back from Emerald City! These guys rock! Michael and the other staff are the nicest mechanics I believe I've ever come across. Zero attitude, unlike most mechanics. Honest prices, fast service, highly recommended!!" I wrote this after the first of many subsequent visits to Emerald City. It's as though some of their mechanics are training as they go. My service there has gone from great, to fair to bad to worse. My last trip there was to replace a coolant hose. Seemed simple enough. I rely on my car for my income so it was imperative I had it repaired quickly. I dropped it off to Michael, the owner, on Thursday morning. I asked him if he could have it done by end of business Friday which he assured me it would be. So Friday afternoon I called to see how the repair was progressing and Michael said he'd look into it and call me back. Well, he never called me back. So I called on Saturday and lo and behold they're closed Sat and Sun. Monday I called in the morning and spoke with Don, a nice enough gentleman, since Michael was out sick. Don seemed surprised that I didn't know what the situation was. I was surprised that it still wasn't finished. He said they ordered the wrong part and that the part needing to be replaced was in a difficult location to get to. I told him nicely that Michael assured me that it would be done last Friday, so Don apologized and said he'd make my car "priority one." So Tuesday I call down there around noon and Michael answered. I asked how my car was doing and he said that they'd TRY to get to it that day. What?! I lost my cool a little and said "look, you said it would be done last Friday, and Don yesterday told me that it was going to be "priority one"." Michael responded, saying curtly "yeah everyone's car is priority one." Considering I've spent quite literally $2000-$3000 at his shop I didn't appreciate his little attitude. So, end of biz Wednesday it was finally finished. Notice the trend: I was the one calling THEM day after day, not the other way around. When I got to the shop Michael explained the wrong hose this and the difficulty of the repair that, and oh by the way you need a new ignition switch(a very expensive repair for my car). I just wanted to pay the man and get the hell out of there. Got out to my car, and the "mechanic" who made the repair said, "I ain't never seen one like that before..." Comforting words to come from an expert, right? So I drive it home and TADA! My car overheats. The cooling fan just stopped working mysteriously. I look under the car to check for coolant leaks and find a shop towel hanging down from the engine block. Quality. Like your surgeon leaving his scalpel in you then stitching you back up. If it weren't for the fact that I don't want his mechanics anywhere near my car I would have taken it back to him to sort it out. Other instances include a botched clutch replacement (my steering squeals when turning the wheel hard left or right) and break calipers Michael tried to sell me that I didn't need. To their credit they did repair an oil pan, drive shaft and starter satisfactorily. If you like shooting craps, take your car to Emerald City.

Pros: They're mechanics

Cons: don't get me started, aweful communication, sloppy work

The owner of Emerald City Auto Repair gave me a verbal quote and when the work was done, he came up with a different price. $400 difference to his benefit. I don't feel I can trust a person who is not of their word. Consumers beware!

I'm pretty picky about who I trust I was very impressed with the service and friendly atmosphere at Emerald City. The repairs were completed at a very competitive price. I shopped around before having the repairs completed. The facility is very cool filled with memorabilia and I found the service personnel friendly and showed a great deal of interest in solving my car troubles. Michael wrote up my vehicle and provide me a free 27 point inspection along with the needed repairs. He gave me a list of other needed repairs and prioritized the importance. I liked the attention because of the genuine smaller business attitude displayed. I highly recommend Emerald City Auto Repair and with my vehicles.

Nice enough people. Good price. Not quality work. This shop changed my power steering pump, but not the 40 year old power steering hose going into the pump that blew a leak one day after the work was performed. The hose can only really be changed easily when the pump is out.
After the last work I had done here I went to pick up my car only to find out they had left the drivers side door open, they had not turned off my battery switch off switch, and no attempt had been made to lock my car. Later I discovered that they had also not put the air cleaner on correctly or even tightened it down. As if this was not the end of it, when I went to get gas the gas cap was not even on. It was just "set" there. The work I had done was priming a fuel pump which is why the must have taken the gas cap off. When I confronted the gentleman at the front desk about my door he agreed with me that it was not okay and then proceeded to go "have a talk with the mechanic who left it open". This consisted of opening the shop door, stepping in for about six seconds and saying "never mind" to the mechanic. I will no longer take my cars to this shop.

I took my car in to get an appraisal on what was wrong with it. What was really great was that they took the time out to give me a ride back to my work. Michael called to tell me that it wasn't fixable. He was gave me options of what to do with it, towing, or try and drive it home (not possible being 20 miles away). I had to make arrangements to get it towed, and they had no problem with letting me have it stay there. They are really nice people and I will take all my business there from now on. Thanks Emeral City!!

Pros: Really nice and quick

Cons: None

I had my classic 1978 Ford F-150 Ranger break down in Seattle 80 miles from my home. Very relucant to take it anywhere since I had little choice. I searched around and found this place.

I went inside and admired the old nostalgic gas pumps and a very friendly person behind the counter. I stated that I simply wanted an estimate to determine if it was benefical to have it repaired here or haul it back to my home town some 80 miles away. His estimate was fair and fast. I checked with my mechanic back home and ran the prices by him...Emerald City was right on target. This was a good value on cost.

Afterwards I could not be more pleased with the small town friendly service I received AND the special attention my truck recieved! As a result I received excellent service, excellent work all with a good value on price and all in a very timely fashion.

As a store Emerald City offers not only excellent work, excellent service, but good value as well!

I manage a large fleet of cars and trucks for our business and when I saw one of my competitors vehicles at Emerald city auto repair I decided to give them a try for our business. The best move we have ever made when it comes to the maintenance and repair of our vehicles. VERY fast service and the correct repairs at an affordable price!! Saved me a lot of time, money and hassles with me keeping up on our vehicles service and maintenance records as they do that for me by sending me reminders when our vehicles are due for service!! They are a repair facility that not only does the maintenance but I trust them to do everything on our vehicles from oil changes to major repairs of all kinds. Give them a try you will not be sorry you did.

A great group of people! The place is really clean with an awsome decor, something fun to look at while you wait for you car. They always make me feel welcome regardless of how busy they are, they will drop what they are doing to help you. Great service every time. I have taken every car I own there and won't go anywhere else. I consider them family!!!! I really recommend them.....it's always hard to find a good auto shop, these guys are great!

I went to see the guys and gals at Emerald city auto repair after a lady I work with told me about them. They were very fast to diagnose and repair my car properly and at a fair price. I felt very comfortable with the staff, being a woman I have felt like I was being taken advantage of in the past at other repair shops and was very relieved to find out this auto shop was owned by a woman. I will be sure and tell all of my friends and family about Emerald City Auto repair.
