What a looser building. Kind of like the stupid Seattle Library, ugly, ugly, ugly.

We really wasted our money on that junk hole. The people with large egos sure enjoy the SAM but for my money, grab a hydro foil to Victoria and spend the day at the Provincial Museum.

Pros: Save your money

Cons: Save your money and buy a candy bar

Well, not really classics but great art none-the-less. Northwest art into one convient place in the middle of downtown seattle. The admission prices are great, very cheap for a date. It is very big in side and has a couple of levels of art. Some of the art is ancient, or so it seems. Catch a taxi there, and the people who work there will recommend great pieces for you to see and analyze. I had fun and would definitely do it again!

PROS: beautiful art
CONS: parking

The SAM is located in the heart of downtown Seattle and is Seattle's biggest art museum. Though it cannot compare to the major metropolitan art museums that you find on the east coast the SAM does a good job keeping a rotation of good exhibits running through the museum while showing the pride they have in the museum itself. Last year there was a Van Gogh exhibit that drew a large crowd (line around the block most days). The museum pulled out all the stops including performance art to teach the museum goers more about Van Gogh. This level of pride for the museum is shown every time you visit the SAM.

I went to the SAM when the Van Gogh works were being displayed. I was given a device that narrates and reenacts audibly, which really enhanced my learning. There were a lot of paintings, all arranged logically so that my path would follow along the timeline, yet if I wanted to, there were shortcuts that would take me to other time periods.

I highly recommend the "SAM" on a free Thursday. While it is a little more crowded than other nights . . . I think it's a lot of fun to people watch and experience other people's view of the art. Plus there is usually a free concert afterwards. If you live near Seattle - I think it would be worth it to buy a season pass or membership since they do change exhibits and some would be very fascinating to see. Seattle Art Musuem isn't like the big museums in NYC or Chicago but they hold their own and trying to become better every year.

This art musuem in downtown has an extensive collection of objects, from African masks to Northwest Native American artifacts to European Old Master paintings and contemporary art. The musuem also hosts a Chado (Japanese tea ceremony) demonstration periodically. The demo lasts for 1 hr and 2 musuem attendees would be chosen to participate with the hosts in the authentic tea room inside the museum. This is a very education experience

This place is amazing. I never gave a 5-star rating before, but they earned it. I grew up in NY and love museums, this place is a masterpiece. So much to see and explore, they have a constant flow of exhibits that suit different taste, but the general ambiance of the place is worth the trip to Seattle. You won't be disappointed!

This is a great place to go if you like art. They have some really great stuff, some very interesting. This is a great place to go on a date if your date is into that kind of stuff. This is not some where i would recommend you to take your family thought. It is a great place to spend a free day.

The SAM is a pretty solid place for art, though known to be on the conservative side when it comes to exhibits. I usually only go when the featured show is of interest to me, and even then I try to go with my parents' guest pass or on a free first Thursday. There are concerts, usually jazz, either every first Thursday or every Thursday, which usually makes the overall experience worth the trip for me.

The Seattle Art Musuem is a must-see if you're into art. I was surprised at just how big this musuem actually is. I believe there are four floors. They have so many different art collections to look at and update all the time. The price seems reasonable and the musuem is always clean and looking crisp.

I enjoy going to SAM for special art exhibits. The recent Van Gogh was especially fun. However, when working full-time, it is difficult to go when the lines aren't bad. Forget about going to a special exhibit on the free Thursday - it takes too long to get in! I definitely prefer the big museums in Chicago and New York, but this is a great place for Seattle.

The Seattle Art Museum is kind of a hit or miss experience for me. It's great when you can find exhibits you like, as they rotate what exhibit they have on display. They have a decent gift shop, and their staff is very friendly. It's centrally located in downtown Seattle, which can be somewhat difficult to find parking. Prices are fairly reasonable, and you can get free admission on first Thursdays, which is a great treat! If you can find an exhibit you're passionate about, this is a great place to go and spend an afternoon being exposed to different arts!

If you love art as much as I do.. you will love to spend a Saturday here admiring all the beautiful art. You could easily get lost here for hours... They offer a great selection.. Might not be the best place to bring your kids.. but for an interesting date with your signifigant other.. Check it out!

this museum always showcases great artists' exhibits. plus, there are so many originals shown that by which is a very rare thing. i usually admire the museums and art exhibits in new york. yet, i must admit, the seattle art museum is almost as great as those found in new york. of course, the best art museums to go to are in europe. but for those of you visiting or living in the u.s., i would recommend the seattle art museum as a worthwhile art viewing. you will fall in love with the art.

If you were lucky enough to view the De Vinci codex when Bill Gates had it on display then you know that this is a world class museum. I like the city art exibit it reminded me a lot of the flavor that made Seattle so popular. The Ball and chain man outside use to be one of my favorite spots to hang out as a teenager. Located near Pike Place market makes this a great place just to chill.

Having visited more than a few world class museums in my travels I found the SAM to be kind of a let down. five floors and only three of them are dedicated to art. It is a wonderful concept to have all these open spaces and shops but isn't there suppose to be a lot more art? Some of the art I saw in there was true garbage (Really) I suppose it is trendy to have modern art displayed and pretend that people who don't like it know nothing of art. It seems the person who paid large sums of money for something a 8 year could have put together in an afternoon was the one fooled.

Seattle could use some help in getting
this museum up and running but its
pretty good. It's a nice building and
fairly new in a city that is trying to
update their cultural scene.

The Seattle Art Museum is a really nice museum. I like the way it's set up and it's really kept up pristine. They usually bring in a variety of exhibits and the admission isn't too expensive. I know that one day a month they have a free day as well. Visit their website to find out more about the discounts and traveling exhibits. They have a little gift shop there and parking isn't too hard to find. I'd say the I like the set up of entrance the best..you feel like you're walking into a palace with the statues and tall marble stairway.

The Seattle Art Museum is often considered to be a "must see" in downtown Seattle. I am a native Seattle-ite who has never been overly impressed with this museum. Granted, I am not normally very interested in art. I wish that I was more into what the museum has to offer, but whenever I go, I question what it was that brought me back.

I like the Seattle Art Museum (also known as the "SAM") although it isn't a super huge art museum. This ain't no Met, MoMa, or Tate Museum. However, they generally bring in some great exhibitions, recently a semi-extensive Van Gogh exhibition. I'd like to see more modern art installations brought in. I also really like that their Italian art features a number of Gothic pieces from the 1200 and 1300s from Siena. This tends to be an elusive period for most museums and its my favorite style. They also have a cafe with way overpriced food, but its fun to sit and have a glass of wine in between the different exhibitions.
