This is the 2nd car we have purchased from Heath Bower - he is great. Simply put, he provides his best price up front (no games), doesn't insult your intelligence, is very organized, and really knows the product line. Our most recent purchase (a VW Tiguan SEL) was challenging because we wanted a specific model with specific options and a specific color, and the Tiguan SEL 4motions were scarce because of the 3rd order impacts of the Japanese earthquake. Long story short - He found and secured us a vehicle that was hard to find with the exact color and options we wanted and at a price that could not be beat while also providing very competitive trade-in quotes (we traded in 2 vehicles). Also- no one does a better vehicle delivery than Heath. He will take you through the vehicle in detail if you are not familiar with VW or the specific model, or modify the delivery accordingly if you are more familiar with VWs. Heath is backed up by a very professional team who accommodated unique requests that I had with regard to the wheels on one of my trade-ins (I wanted the wheels I put on the vehicle shipped to my daughter and the OEM wheels put back on). The whole team (sale manager, finance person, etc.) was top drawer. This dealership is deceiving in that they don't have a large physical footprint but they absolutely compete with the larger dealerships on price but offer a real customer experience that others are not able to replicate. Think of the movie "Jerry McGuire" - that is the kind of relationship I have built with Heath, and by extension, with Carter VW. Do yourself a favor and start your search here - you will save yourself a lot of time and hassle because they will treat you properly and fairly.

My wife and I had a very good experience at Carter VW dealership. John Lamm, our salesman, was very nice, knowledgable, and professional explaining the lease contract for the 2010 Jetta which we decided to buy. Anyone interested in buying or leasing a vehicle should take the time and check them out!!!!!

I recently worked with Leighton Russell to get a 2011 Tiguan. I was immediately allowed to test drive one, and when my wife and I called back to say we wanted one they immediately got the ball rolling. We were back that afternoon and i drove away with an awesome new car.

Also, I spent 5 minutes with a guy at the service department counter to order some rubber floor mats, and I got a call back before a week had passed saying they were ready for me to pick up.

I had a wonderful experience shopping for a new car with Bill Stutzman at Carter Volkswagen. My friend had purchased a car from him 2 years ago and had a great experience so I went to Bill. He is the reason why I purchased a VW. He was very professional and well informed. And most of all, he was very straight forward and honest. I got the price and financing I wanted and the whole transaction went very smoothly and fast. I highly recommend that you go see Bill. I love my new car and I am glad that Bill was there for me.

I recently traded in my wife's 2008 Scion xB for a 2010 Golf. Donielle greeted us as we arrived on the lot and immediately helped us locate the exact car we wanted (color and options). They didn't have the car on their lot, but even though it was Sunday they were able to get the car immediately from a nearby dealership and have it prepped for us while we had lunch and my wife did some shopping.

The whole process was smooth and simple. They gave me what I wanted for my trade and I got the Golf for a reasonable price at 0% interest. Their finance guy thoroughly explained all the possible protection/warranty packages, but wasn't pushy about them when I elected not to purchase any (I really appreciated this).

After this experience, I would certainly buy another vehicle from this dealer and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends in search of a car. The car is great and my wife is thrilled with it. Thanks Donielle!

I just bought a car at Carter Volkswagen. Tony Robertson was so nice to work with...I wanted a specific make and color. The only car available in that color was a pricier model- so they matched the lower price- giving me several upgraded features for the base model $$. Tony was very nice, professional, laid back- perfect to deal with.

my credit was good but I was sold a car for Waaaay too much money (i didn't understand the process at the time) and after they were not willing to help out at all when I was way over my head. Now I have cancer and cannot get out of the car because I owe way more than it is worth...so I racked up the bills because of the high dealer loan payment and am figuring out how to sell w/out going bankrupt or having repo'd. NEVER AGAIN.

Will not return there ever again. My vehicle was purchased at Carter and the customer service that day was great! Ensuing visits proved to be less than satisfactory. No callbacks, snotty attitudes, lack of communication, overpriced service. Never again.

Called to make an oil change. Got there and they said I needed a 60K done. Got the 60K done.
When I got home. I check the fluids. Fluids was not top off When paper work said it was. VW CSR called and I told them about my oil being low they said contact Jack. When I left a message to Jack about my fluids being low he called and said that it all my fluids was fine. How would he know if it's alright if he has not seen it???? He didn't even offer me to come back for them to take a look at it. So I took it to Jiffy Lube to make sure it was top off. And surely The oil level was 2 qt low.

I didn?t realize how much I love Carters VW until I got burned at another place.. I usually go to Carters in Ballard to get my car serviced and I have always had a good experience, but I was enticed by a coupon to 34th Street and decided to try the little guy. I got completely burned! 34th Street Garage was rude, untimely, unprofessional and lied about the service they performed (I wrote a review on their Citysearch). The price may be a bit higher at Carter (maybe $10 more tops) but they give you a loaner car when you make an appointment or have a shuttle if you need it, I trust them to perform the services they say they are going to do and they even wash your car. Plus the customer service reps are always friendly and professional! I took my car in without an appointment about a week ago to have some mascara (don?t ask) removed from the headliner and one of the customer service reps helped me right away and hoped in with some Superclean to remove the stain no charge. These guys no customer service and the value of people?s time. I will be back to Carter VW every 5,000 miles, and god forbid in between should my VW give out on me. :)

Pros: Great Service, Trustworthy mechanics, they value their customers

Cons: should include a free tire rotation with oil change

service is so-so and way overpriced - I'm facing what will most likely be a $3500+ service bill for a car with less than 65k miles - ouch

Here's what happened:
1. Despite the fact that I made an appointment for 10k service weeks ago, they had my car all day and didn't bother calling me to tell me that they "hadn't gotten to it yet." In fact, by 5:00pm, I had called them three time with no return phone call. Nice. They weren't even apologetic about it.
2. They're estimate for 10k service (basically, an oil change, tire rotation and various checks) was $196. After all this I called University VW and found that they charge $109. Hmmm...
3. When I was there picking my car (the one that they touched for the service but somehow found the time to wash and vacuum) it took nearly a half hour of waiting and while I was waiting I saw one of their employees back a customer's car into another customer's car, causing significant damage.

Hopefully, I'll have a better experience at University VW, though I haven't read many great things about them either. I'll never go back to Carter though, that's for sure.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Anywhere else but Carter Volkswagen Saab, that's my motto.
They charged me over $1,000 for my 120k mile check up, expensive but I was expecting that, only to find that after they charged me, they brought my car to me and it had a 17 inch break right across the drivers side of the windshield, eye level. So obvious but yet they didn't mention it to me, when I showed them immediately that I don't want to take my car back without them explaining what happened, they treated me as if I must have brought the car in that way. Unbelievable! The Service Manager was so rude and unprofessional, he almost made me physically sick, he is clearly an uneducated and angry person. His condescending manner is what set me off, he didn't listen to a word I had to say. I believe they have horrible customer service and are partially incompetent as well. It takes quite a bit to upset me, but they did it well.

Took car in for oil change, they had my car for a full 24 hours.
Paid bill, got car back and drove home. Cheked my oil to find they did not change my oil.
Went back, they treated me like I was lying to them and said there was no way to be sure if the service had or had not been done.
Staff was condescending to me.

I have attempted to take my family's Volkswagen new Bettle to Carter in Ballard on three separate occasions. One thing was a regular maintenance and the two others were for recalls. The folks at this location are so busy that the individual does not seem to matter very much. I was treated very gruffly and was not really spoken to in a manner that would indicate what the repair would cost (estimate) nor how much time it would take. I was expecting them to call to say what was wrong with the car but instead I got a call that "it was done." This was a surprise because I had no idea i had even approved the work. I found their processes very confusing, they were too busy and they were not really happy to have me as a customer. Now, I drive all the way up to Lynnwod and have much better experience there.

PROS: They have a parts department where you can buy things you need like bulbs.
CONS: They don't seem to want your business.

I was THIS CLOSE to buying a Saab from Carter. I had very carefully asked for a quote on the model that I wanted. The salesperson came back with a quote that was very good compared to what I had received from other dealers. Then I asked him to verify that it was the exact model I wanted. He told me a different model. I questioned him and he said I had said the wrong model name. If that makes any sense. I turned down the offer and then saw that on the back of his business card he gave me when we first met, he had written down the name of the model I gave him - although he claimed I told him something different. There went any trust I had in them.
