5 Stars: FABULOUS place for Brunch, Lunch or Dinner (by SeXXXy)

FABULOUS view of Seattle across the Sound. I have ALWAYS gotten GREAT service and GREAT food, even when I brought 20 people and arranged for separate checks(not easy on the servers). Everyone in my large party of "out of towners" agreed that the food was excellent and service was GREAT. I have always gotten GREAT food, cooked exactly to order for Lunch and Dinner. Brunch is a buffet so a few things are cooler than I like, but still good. I recommend Salty's at Alki to EVERYONE that is looking for a GREAT seafood meal.

1 Stars: Horrible Happy Hour (by Waters38)

We arrived at 3:00 for Happy Hour. We were told there wouldn't be any food for 45 minutes although Happy Hour starts at 3:00. We enjoyed the view and drinks and finally ordered an appetizer. It came cold inside, yet burned on top. The table behind us summoned the server to complain about hair in their food. The server was inept and charged us regular prices rather than Happy Hour. Yes, the view was great but not worth the $25.00 and hassle. There are hundreds of wonderful Seattle Happy Hours with great food and some with views. Don't waste your time.

2 Stars: You are paying for the view (by SearchingforGreatSandwich)

The only thing special about the food is how expensive it is! Even the happy hour prices are too high. You are definitely paying for only one thing here- the view of Elliott Bay and Seattle.
If you're entertaining out-of-town guests I would recommend taking them here.

4 Stars: Decent seafood, a bit overrated (by ptcrpsnt)

The food here is pretty good (though eating too much seafood during their lunch buffets is an easy way to get sick). The view is also great. That said, people hype this restaurant too much. It's good, but it's not top-tier either in food or ambiance.

3 Stars: great view, food - just okay (by bronschar8)

The view was incredible here and we had great service. I did not think that the food was very good. I ordered Alaskan King Crab legs and they were over cooked and did not seem that fresh. They were also on the small side. My husband ordered a steak cooked medium and there was absolutely no pink. The appetizers were okay but the crab cake tasted a bit like tuna. The atmosphere was nice...not too stuffy, not too casual, but the food was very mediocre. (I noticed that another reviewer commented on the smell when entering and we noticed the same thing right away. Once seated at our table we could not smell anything, but it was a turn-off.)

2 Stars: Food was okay, but service was really bad (by F00D)

The place had the best views of downtown Seattle. However the service was really bad and not just at our table. At the tables adjacent to ours as well.

Had to wait for an hour after our appetizers to get the entrees. Never asked if we wanted more to drink or even filled water. Could not find the waiter at all. When the Dessert option came he said it's on me and then he put it in the bill. This was on a weekday, not crowded at all. We were very disappointed.

Food is okay, but service really poor...Expect to be there at least 3 hours. You may get out of a swanky fine dining place faster...

5 Stars: Best Brunch Ever Had! (by south_seattle)

While I haven't been to a brunch in a while, I had my fair share of brunch experiences in the past. However, none of them compared with Salty's. We went there last Sunday to celebrate a special occasion and it turned out that we picked the right place.

The service was outstanding (beginning with the greeting), the restaurant is beautiful and the view spectacular. And, the food is simply amazing! The selection is tremendous and everything is fresh and tastes delicious. The two minor complains I have are: I would have loved to see some different fresh breads and jams (I am a bread & jam person) and, secondly, I wish I had six stomachs like a cow...

Highly recommended - you will not regret it.

5 Stars: Amazing Brunch! (by Dare33)

As a newcomer to Seattle from NYC, I am a foodie on a mission. I like to discover the new spots, the hot spots and the unknowns. In this case I was told that I should check out Salty's for the view, the ride across the sound and the brunch. For many it is easy to create a brunch so I thought dinner first. If it is good, then Brunch. I was not disappointed on either count. I went for dinner and found my steak ("Fun Guy") to be of good quality, the caesar salad crisp and flavorful, the seafood chowder with Sherry quite good and the service (Macenzie) spot on. This lead to my interest in going to Salty's for brunch a week later (10/12/08). With the dinner having been of good quality and taste I had expectations for the brunch. Those expectations were met. Amazing spread, good quality, good service and price appropriate. I will tell you that you would not go wrong utilizing this brunch for an event or for a periodic stop for local product and quality eats. In addition, if you happen to get there on a day when Macenzie is working, you would not be disappointed by the quality of service you receive.

5 Stars: Perfect food, service and ambience without an ounce of pretense. (by EsmereldaVillalobos)

I could write a book about how great everything was. The seafood was super fresh (i would almost think that they caught it to order) and everything was perfectly cooked (except for the raw oysters ; ). I ate the best crab legs I've ever had. The filet mignon with truffle oil was incredible as was the potato that came with it. The wine selection was also fantastic. The view was so amazing that I had trouble concentrating. The service was perfect. Professional and courteous. When the bill came, considering what we got, I was very pleased with the prices. Definitely worth every cent.

4 Stars: Great Sunday Buffet (by 510girl)

I highly recommend the Sunday brunch buffet. Lots of different items to choose from, feels like a Vegas buffet yet with much higher quality food. Dinner tends to be a little on the expensive side, so I'd stick with the Sunday buffet.

1 Stars: Bad service, O.K. food (by shibuya)

My friends and I were there on Sunday 8/10 for brunch. We haven't been there for 2 years so we were excited to eat good food with a view and no kids (our children) to bother us. We were seated promptly but our waitress was slow to greet us. In addition, she was very unfriendly when we ask to refill our coffee. We noticed she was extremely talkative to tables next to us but very short with us. The food was o.k. I am very dissapointed in the service as well as the food. I did voice my opinion in the survey and decided to voice my thoughts here too. It is time for me as well as my friends to go somewhere else especially for $38.75 per person!!!!

2 Stars: Wet Dog Smell......... (by Spanky5000g)

My wife and I as well as friends go to Salty's on Alki several times a year for the Sunday brunch. The experience is usually enjoyable and the food is excellent. This last trip this past Sunday 7/20 was not worth the $320 bill that we had.

#1 -- The downstairs dining room (South side) near the dessert table smelled like wet dog. We were seated directly next to the dessert table and for the hour and a half we were there watched 3 children continually play with the food getting their grubby little hands over everything. While it shouldn't be the responsibility of the staff to babysit these kids they were disrupting our table the majority of the meal. The kids parents were obviously too stupid or tired to exercise any supervision. While I felt for the wait staff the manager should have had the cajones to tell the parents to control their kids or they would be tossed into the Puget Sound.

#2 The majority of the food was cold. Still tasted decent but for $38 a plate kind of expect the food to be at least warm.

This is the first poor experience I've had there. I've never had a problem paying the high prices because the food and experience were worth it but this time I left the place thinking that I probably should start trying some other brunch venues.

3 Stars: Great Drinks, Too Expensive (by Yvette1985)

The drinks were perfect! You could easily get smashed without knowing it.
The appetizer's were great. Try the Oyster shooters those are different but very good.

5 Stars: MMMMMMM.... (by Chriss C.)

I love going to Salty's. The view is amazing over the water looking at Seattle. The food is outstanding. I love the mussles, pretty much any seafood is fantastic. The atmosphere is very nice, I didn't feel like I needed to be dressed up, but the surroundings make you feel like you're at a fancy restaurant.

5 Stars: Brunch is great but Dinner is even better! (by kimmythatcher)

I've been going to Salty's for Brunch for many years. My family just loves it. My husband isn't much of a seafood fan but that doesn't stop him from enjoying it just as much as the rest of us. There are so many fresh choices, YUM! I recently decided to try them out for dinner. It was even better than brunch. Service was perfect, as usual, not snobby or corny. The view was of course amazing but the food.... Fantastic! I had these seared scallops that blew me away. So good I went back the next week because I had to have them again. Skip the coconut prawn app, because you can get those anywhere. Oh and if it's still on the specials menu, you have to try the gazpacho with Dungeness crab!! I?ll be back for more of that too!

1 Stars: Washed up and tired, worst brunch experience... (by mnoltey)

We will not be back!!! We made reservations as recommended for Brunch last weekend. When we arrived 5 minutes early, we were told that it would be half an hour wait. So we waited, waited and waited. No offering of water or anyting in that heat!!! The staff seemed to be running around, never engaging and annoyed with everyone who was there. When we finally satt down to try and eat, the majority of the food was cold, my wife asked the server if we could heat up the food on our plates in the microwave, and he seemed put out by the request. Cold and bland food shouldn't even be nominated for the best of!!!!

The restaurant is dirty, dusty and needs some desparate attention to detail. The area where the buffet is located is covered with grease and just gross. For that much money, we'd rather battle the tourists on the waterfront in some of the newer restaurants.....

4 Stars: Great view, good food (by shesaid)

We went to Salty's for the first time this past weekend and had a great time. The view is amazing, everything from the Columbia Tower to the Space Needle sits across the bay. The service was earnest, well-timed. The food was very good- in fact, we were expecting something standard like a McCormick and Schmick's but found some really inventive dishes that delivered. With so many great places to frequent for dinner in Seattle, we rarely return to the same place in the same season. For Salty's, we will make an exclusion!

5 Stars: Salty's is synonymous with Seattle! (by future2829)

Salty's may be known for its view and seafood but it's the friendly wait staff that have my husband and I and our friends and familes coming back time and again. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and special. We bring our daughters here for their birthday year after year. We entertain business clients (great way to schmooze a client). We bring friends and neighbors. If someone doesn't like seafood, they have steaks, salads, pasta (which turns into a vegetarian dish easily, just ask). It's really got everything. (If you don't see what you want be sure to ask. If you have any issues, just let a manager know!) We especially like the way they include wine suggestions on their daily fresh sheet. Very nice touch. Our daughters really love the white chocolate cake they serve free for birthdays (and balloons to boot). It's definitely THE place to take out-of-town visitors which means it can get crowded and busy during the summer, but it's worth the wait (just be sure to make reservations). There's just no better place to show off Seattle and it's incredible location on Elliott Bay with the mountains in the background. And they have the "Nordstrom" friendliness and we'll take care of everything mindset. Salty's is synonymous with Seattle! We always vote for Salty's during the Citysearch annual vote. They so deserve it!

1 Stars: Avoid the Tourist Trap!!! (by nickstevens100)

After reading some of the reviews on this site, we decided to check it out while in town last weekend. We should have listened to the real ones on the second page!!! The front desk was extremely rude, even though we were only 5 minutes early for our reservation, they made us wait another 20 minutes, didn't even offer for us to sit in the bar. The server was unapologetic about our wait and seemed put out that we were trying to get a view, but were stuck in the corner next to a loud server hangout... The steak was overcooked, ordered medium rare and was sent out well done, so much for Prime Beef. When the second steak came out, they simply dropped it and ran, hoping it was correct.... They seem so stuck in the 70's with some of their food, the fried fish martini was horrible, cold and left much to be desired. The chowder was a saving grace. The black pepper sauce on our salmon was way too overpowering and why blacken the best fish in the water, Yukon salmon? The spice was awful.

1 Stars: TERRIBLE SERVICE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE (by Dominic A.)

went to saltys for a casual dinner on a hot sunny day, view was great but other than that nothing else was, limited menu, terrible service (took 15 mins to have a seat while they were slow and 30 mins for a glass of water and a hi from our waiter) we did not order after this, we went across the water to Anthony's on pier 66 where I WOULD STRONGLY STRONGLY RECCOMMEND OVER SALTYS ANY DAY

5 Stars: Salty's is great! (by anyalynnseattle)

I was invited to dinner at Salty's last week and wow have things changed! I was so impressed with the food and service I made a reservation to spend the 4th of July there as well. One of the servers told me that they hired a new chef about a year ago. What a difference! I had the salmon. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce was a perfect touch. This place is not just about the view anymore. It is about great food and the view! My vote: If you have not been there in a while, go give it a try.

5 Stars: Best view and seafood in Seattle, hands down! (by sandcs88)

There's no place like it in Seattle! When you put this incredible view of downtown Seattle across Elliott Bay (the glass windows of the skyscrapers reflect the sunset across the water - wow!) together with fabulous Northwest seafood (hey, there are steaks too if you gotta) made with absolute class, you have to agree there's no place like it in all of Seattle! We had great service (server was very very friendly) and couldn't ask for more. The menu included recommendations for wine pairings with their special seafood dishes (halibut and salmon). Wild salmon is all the rage now. If you know anything about Seattle, you know you must have wild salmon when it's available. Now is the time in the Pacific Northwest! Nothing else like it and Salty's is the epitome of great places for wild salmon. We asked for a window table and even though everyone does we were lucky and got one (all the tables have views though since it's terraced - very nice way to share with everyone in the place!). Okay, I ramble on but really it's worth the time if you have to wait in line. The place is very popular after all! We say try it, you'll love it! We go with friends, as a couple, with groups, or go on your birthday and they'll give you FREE cake.

1 Stars: Worst Mother's Day Experience - Will never be back! (by cbhrisrown)

We made reservations over a month ago for 11:00 on Mother's Day. Little did we know what we were in for... Let's start off with the cattle call of people waiting for terrible food. The line was out the door when we arrived to try and check in. We were told there was already a wait and that it was to be expected, even with a reservation. The front desk staff should be given a class in being considerate!!! They were completely rude and looked confused and scared with all the people waiting. After being sat 30 minutes late, the server was just as rude as the front desk, looked like a common theme for the day!!! We had to go through the buffet numerous times just to get some food, it was either cold or empty. If you want to try and dine with the masses, for terrible food and rude service, then this is for you. If not, stay away from the trap. Overpriced and underrated, just look at their reputation and listen!!!!!! We should have!!!!!

1 Stars: Avoid brunch - it is overrated. (by linner2)

terrible service from the time you make your reservations to the time you leave.
do not go to this restaurant.
the all-you-can-eat brunch is way overpriced but unfortunately this is one of the few places that has it in seattle so it is popular and has very little competition in the area. go a-la-carte at the many other restaurants in town if view and hunger are not on your priority.
the view is what draws people to this place. have low expectations and your experience will be more tolerable.

1 Stars: Average Food, Poor Service (by lvretriever)

As a frequent business traveler to Seattle, I was looking for a seafood restaurant with a view to take clients. The food was so average and the service from the hostess to wait staff was very poor, not even the view could salvage the evening. Upon returning home, I read all the reviews and have just one question. Why have the rude hostess and waiters not been fired?

3 Stars: Very Romantic (by bnrseattle)

My husband and I decided to take our parents out for dinner. The decision to go here was last minute, for I had heard about Salty's on television. Of course I looked up this place on line to get directions, and saw that the place was rated 2-4 marks on prices, with 5 being the most epensive. I thought, "well, I am not very hungry, so I will just order fish and chips or an appitizer". I was secretly floored on the prices. An appetizer was about the same price as most dinner's elsewhere. I am not trying to sound cheap, but if you have not eaten here before expect to spend money. We made reservations about 4 hours in advance, and we arrived 20 minutes early and were seated right away. The staff was sort of snooty, and the hostess did not smile at us at all. But our waiter was more than happy to serve us, and was pleasant and attentive. We got to sit facing the view, which was spectacular at night. I would go back, but this time only with my husband. We did bring our two children with us, and although other parents also broght their kids along, It was more of a romantic evening kind of place.

5 Stars: Brunch is the bomb. (by danic81)

For a decent price, when you go to brunch, you get... such a great meal! Mountains of crab, fresh waffles, eggs, pastries, other seafood... Writing this review makes me want to go sometime soon!

On top of the great food (I think my fiance and I typically make 3 trips back to the buffet when we go!), they also are fortunate enough to have a fabulous waterfront view. One of my favorite breakfast spots.

4 Stars: Great dessert selection for brunch (by shinidapooh)

We dined there last sunday with party of five. The host wasn't very friendly, nor does the waiter is attentive. The food is good but not great. You are paying for the view basically. The restaurant get a fantastic view for the lake and the whole enviornment. The prime beef is good, and the made to order omelete is nice, and the dessert is fantastic. Their chocolate fountain is great too! I had big hope for the oyster, but my appetite was ruined after I saw a little, live, warm on my oyster shell. The shrimp and the crab legs were just ok. Their smoke salmon turned into cooked salmon after only two rounds. You might be disappointed if you are a food critics or a gourmet. But if you just want to relax and enjoy a view with family and friends, this is a ok place to be. I'd recommend their dessert if you are a sweet tooth.

I heard many things about this view. It was amazing as everyone said! My love and I came on a Friday night. We were lucky enough to find a seat outside. Our waiter, Adam, was very busy. The service may have been distributed a little better, but he as attentive as he could have been. We had a wonderful meal, great wine, and a fantastic desert. It was perfect for my last dinner in the states for a while. I had a wonderful time with my love and enjoyed a fantastic view and dinner. Salty's is a must try for any romantic couple in Seattle.

3 Stars: Rude customer service (by flypinay184)

My companion and I thought our host was very rude. When we approached her, she was very condescending because of the way that we were dressed and because of our younger age. We had just come from the beach, so we were pretty dressed down. She automatically assumed that we could not afford dinner, so she asked us if we would be eating an entire meal there. She then did not seat us, but let us wander the restaurant to find seats. When we came back unsuccessful, the manager found a table for us. The host was unapologetic as well. We felt that in a restaurant of that class, we felt that we should have been treated much better.

3 Stars: Mediocre food except for the dessert! (by Michelle Q.)

We ate at Salty's on Alki for our anniversary lunch. We made a reservation and were seated at a table with a spectacular view. Since it was a special occasion, they put a couple of balloons at our table, which was a nice touch. The menu came and I ordered the salmon while my husband had the captain's platter. The food was just so-so. There are plenty of restaurants around the area that offer better seafood. At the end, we were presented with a complimentary dessert since it was our anniversary. The white chocolate mousse cake was delicious and melted in our mouths! It almost (but not quite) made me forget about the below average seafood.

2 Stars: View is ALL it has (by lynnaboo)

My friend and I took a visiting friend (from Denmark) because we wanted her to have a special experience. It was mortifying. Our service was horrible and it was not very busy. The food was mediocre at best. She had to send back her salad twice because she asked for the dressing on the side and was finally told that it always has dressing on it?!! And then they didn't even take it off the bill! The manager was at our table for probably 20 minutes and all she managed to do was give us a card for someone who wasn't even there. No apology, nothing taken off the bill. Really lame.

Unlike a lot of previous reviewers, we received excellent service from our server. She was very attentive and delivered everything we asked for. The view is FABULOUS but unfortunately the food did not live up to expectations and the price we paid. Our bill for an appetizer sampler, two entrees , two KIDS MEALS and drinks came up to $130. I'm not going to go into pricing details as one can find them on the Web, but with those prices, we expected a better culinary experience. Food was just OK. It's too bad because we really wanted to like this restaurant.

5 Stars: Fantastic brunch! (by alicianoele)

Though I've lived in Seattle for seven years, last Saturday marked my very first trip to legendary Salty's on Alki. I partook in the brunch with a group of friends, and am pleased to report that the experience completely exceeded my expectations. Although we did not score a window or outdoor table, the atmosphere was still pleasant and comfortably elegant. As the brunch is an all-you-can eat affair, I arrived anticipating the food quality would be sub-par. I could not have been more wrong! Every dish was delectable, from the oysters on the half-shell to the marinated eggplant & squash. Mountains of fresh shrimp and crab legs were enjoyed by our table, along with mussels, lobster ravioli, perfectly ripe strawberries, and penne pasta salad. The offerings are so vast, there is simply no way one person could try everything, and I didn't even attempt the traditional "breakfast" offerings (potatoes, sausage, eggs, omelettes made to order, scones, biscuits, waffles, and more...). Following our seafood extravaganza, we still managed to taste some of the many delicious and aesthetically-appealing desserts such as creme brulee, coffee-rum cheesecake, ganache tartlets, rich chocolate mousse cups, and fluffy lemon chiffon cake. All the while, we were attended to by an incredibly polite and prompt server who was quick to bring more OJ, clear away shell-laden plates, and explain the finer points of brunching. Whereas I believe I ate enough crab to last me the next few months at least, once I've recovered I'll certainly return to Salty's for brunch!

We decided to go back to Salty's on Alki. We made reservations and requested a seat by the window (a must!) and were seated promptly. The hostess was nice and I recieved multiple comments by her. However, once our server (his name was Brian) arrived I knew I would not be enjoying Salty's as much as I did before. He seemed to rush us a bit, and paid little attention to us from what I think is his assumption that we would not tip well. My boyfriend ordered the clam chowder (which is awesome) and I the ceasar salad (mediocre, needs a bit more dressing). He did not give us crackers with his chowder. We had to ask and wait for atleast 10 minutes before recieving any. We did not get any bread, which made me upset because every other table was given bread the moment they recieved their drinks. It was dissapointing that we had to ask for things that are included with the meal and other people were given with not having to say a word. In addition to not recieving the items we should have and having to ask for them, Brian seemed a bit "too good" for me and my boyfriend. Bottom line is, if you plan to go to Salty's, remember you must look "rich" (he was being overly nice to the "rich" men sipping wine at a table next to us) to be given good service.

1 Stars: Good Food but terrible service and management (by bhanna13)

My fiance and I brought her parents to Salty's when they came to visit. We had been there before and sat in the lounge and enjoyed the food. We made a 7:30 reservation and arrived about 10 minutes early. We were told they were running a few minutes behind but should have us seated shortly. When I went to check on our reservation 30 minutes later I was rudely told, "we'll seat you when we get a table! We can't make people get up!" I overheard this being said to several people by the host and manager. We were finally seated over an hour after our reservation time. The waitress was friendly but not attentive. It took forever (almost 25 minutes) to get our order taken. On a positive note the food was very good and the view was nice. However, the service and attitude will keep me from returning.

Well it is FABULOUS especially the deserts! The chocolate fountain...yummy. The only bad thing I will say about brunch is--if you don't like seafood well the menu revolves around it.

4 Stars: exceptional visit (by elainemintz)

My husband and I recently went to the Salty's brunch and I have to differ from those who complained about the staff and food. I thought they made the experience memorable. They were cheerful and seemed like they really enjoyed working there.
The brunch array was spectacular..so much to choose from that you have to do a walk through first. The chocolate fountain alone was worth it as was the view!!
Every restaurant can have a bad day but Salty's is totally a 5 star experience.

1 Stars: Rude, rude, rude! (by tweet_wa)

Forcing down my intuition after reading the reviews on this site, I decided against my better judgment to make reservations last night for a business dinner. The view is spectacular and guite a treat for out-of-towners. I'd entertained business clients at Salty's several years ago and don't recall the service nor the food. However, when I called to make reservations, the young woman on the other end of the line was so rude that I hung up on her. I will never entertain another client at this establishment and I will make sure that my experience is known among my colleagues, family and friends.

They've lost more than a few customers due to this!

4 Stars: Good Special Events Place (by Lynne O.)

It is expensive, but the food, service and view of the water deliver. Lunch for two without drinks ran $100. Birthdays, anniversaries or business meals designed to impress are all good reasons to indulge. The open air deck is glorious in the summer months, but not for the faint of heart in the damp, wet Northwest winters.

2 Stars: Not worth it (by jgana)

While we were seated quickly in the cafe and the view was second to none, I probably will not be returning to Salty's again. The service was rude (I think they assumed we were not going to tip well, which became a self-fulfilling prophecy), the wine wasn't chilled properly, and the seafood pasta was marginal (fettucine stuck together in a ball, etc).

5 Stars: Salty's is a nice place (by lachlanmullen)

The free valet parking is a nice touch. The view is fantastic. The food is fantastic (won't be on a Chef's TV show any time soon, but tasted great). But lets face it, you're not buying food or parking here, you're paying for a view and great service. Our dinner for 2 was around $150 after a tip, but it was worth it. I had a beautiful date, but it was tough to pry my gaze off the sunset reflected on the cityscape. Bring your fiends, bring your family. Make EXCUSES to come back if you have to.
2 Stars: Last Time (by waynee)

Many visits to this restaurant, including brunch; last week's was our last. No table at our reservation time, however seated outside right away with great view. Caesar and spinach salads arrived after 40 minute wait and were quite ordinary. Both my wife's cowboy ribeye and my grilled halibut were nothing special. Dinner rolls were somewhat tough and chewy. We were given a free desert for our anniversary celebration; the white chocolate mousse cake was excellent. As we left the deck and walked through the indoor dining area, we couldn't believe how noisy it was inside - reminded me of college taverns. I would say go once if you must, just to say you have been there. Otherwise, there are much better places to celebrate a special occasion and spend less than the $100+ Salty's will cost you.

2 Stars: Salty experience leaves bad taste in my mouth (by jenknoll)

The view is fantastic, the food is not bad, but our service was absolutely horrible. Our waitress was very rude. When I sent back a diry glass, she rolled her eyes. My husband ordered a glass of wine. We waited and waited, and when we finally asked for the wine she replied "Oh, you want that now?". She never told us what the specials were. After we received our meals, I heard a waiter behind us talking about the specials, and I really wished she had told us about the specials because they sounded fantastic. Finally, our waitress never checked on us after we received our meals. I was very dissapointed, and will not be driving the 35 miles from our home to eat at Salty's again.

Last week I wrote a review titled WE WERE UNDER-WHELMED, and while I stand by the review of that nights experience, we will return to Salty's again, all due to a phone call from Mary, director of operations for Salty's. Mary call was very sincere, and she is very proud of Salty's, (I think she has been there for nearly 10 years) and felt horrible that we had such a bad experience. I am convinced Salty's just had an off night, and will write another review after our next visit. Mary thank you for your call, you are a valuable asset to your organization!

Arriving 11 minutes late for our 9:30 reservation (was a long cab ride) we were told by a very cold hostess that we would have to find a table in the bar. A table of 8 was seated in the mostly empty dining room a few minutes later. Hummmmm... After a long wait, our waitress took our drink order, and returned with same 15 minutes later. Long story short, horrible (non existent) rude service! Average overpriced food.

2 Stars: The outdoor seafood bar is horrible! (by Barbara W.)

I took my kids to the outdoor seafood bar the other night and we were all horribly disappointed. The food was terrible and the prices were ridiculous! I paid $30 for one order of prawns and chips, one order of halibut and chips, one side order of cole slaw and one cup of chowder- no drinks! The fish was greasy and had a very odd flavor to it. They over-salted the fries to the point where my kids were wiping them on a napkin before attempting to eat them. We threw most of the food away. I won't go there again, I'd rather go to Wally's in Des Moines.

PROS: the view

A friend and I just ate at Salty's. We weren't on the window but still had a clear view of the city. Thran, the hostess, was short with us but the waiter, Oka, was very attentive and helpful. The manager came to the table to see how things were. She told us about the Copper River salmon and why it tasted so great. We spent $100 for a night out and some beautiful views. We had fun!
2 Stars: At least the water taxi ride was nice! (by mkoehl)

From the minute arrived at Salty's we were treated poorly. The hostess said that our wait would "be just a few minutes". After 40 minutes when I inquired about our table and reservation I was rudely told that "we will seat you as soon as we have a table!". We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation time.

If they try to give you table 73...run!! With the kitchen close by and spot lights shining down on the art work it was well over 90 degrees. When we asked if the lights could be dimmed, we were told no.

The service was slow and sloppy. My daughter's salmon arrived with a sauce she asked to be kept off. My meal was not even the entree I ordered.

When a meal for 4 runs in excess of $200 you should expect something special. Salty's is far from special. Typical tourist trap.

3 Stars: Service is erratic (by hmccracken)

Perhaps it's just a phenomenon of happy hour, but the last few times we have visited Salty's on a sunny day the service was terrible. There were not a lot of customers during those times, but somehow it was too hard for our servers to get to the bar to pick up our cold beers before they got warm. Once our beers ran out, the server smiled and walked right by us without offering to get us some more. We tried to wave her down several times, but she never thought to look in our direction. There were errors in our bill. There are a lot of other sun decks in town with much greater service that we are beginning to consider.

5 Stars: Great Experiences (by jperry98)

I have had the pleasure of dining at Salty's several times - and each time I have not only had outstanding service - but the food was amazing! Fresh, fresh, fresh! My last visit was on a VERY busy night - but the food and service did not disappoint. It's as if my guests and I were the only ones in the restaurant. I have dined at some of the city's most fabulous, swanky new restaurants, and I can say that Salty's ranks right up there with them. I do understand the crowds. The place does get packed. But there is a bar - and a great patio - which can take the edge off the wait.

3 Stars: nice view - but overcrowded & overpriced... (by riven)

...just went for a valentine's day dinner. the food was average but way overpriced, though a lot of places jack up their prices for this special occasion. service was great and we were seated promptly, but got stuck behind the fireplace which limited the otherwise great view. it's only worth it if you place a high value on the view...

5 Stars: Best Brunch (by maplevalleygirl)

I was worried after reading the former reviews but our Sunday Brunch was the best. Terrific food and absolutely wonderful, almost intuitive service at least from our waitress, Megan. Yes, it's pricey, but where else do you get King Crab, Smoked Salmon and shooters? Wonderful destination. Need to paint up the waiting area, though.

1 Stars: Worst Thanksgiving dinner (by faye asence)

My family drove 40 miles to have our thanksgiving dinner at Salty's but "IT WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT". My other friends drove 152 miles. We've been to a lot of restaurants and my Salty's experience was the WORST. I was so disappointed that I actually lost some sleep.
We were very disappointed with the food, the atmosphere and the service at the carving station.
We were sitting on the lower level and the customers kept bumping into my chair because they used my space as way to go around the area (going to the food, to the hallway, to the bathroom). We felt that the place was so crowded and was just like a rented hall. The service at the carving station was slow and at times no ham or turkey. The only good thing is the service.

My husband and I went to brunch here for our anniversary and we were very disappointed with the poor service. They moved our table 3 times and pretty ,uch ignored us the rest of the time. We had to find out what about the drinks by listening to a different waiter tell other diners about it. The food was good and the view amazing.

1 Stars: Worst Dining Experience in Seattle (by chris4035)

I had my worst dining experience in Seattle ever at this place. I agree the view is nce, but everything else about this restaurant is awful - service, food, management etc. I can't for the life of me understand how anyone can give a good review. My advice is to spend your hard earned dollars at one of the many great restaurants in Seattle (Ovio on California as an example) and stay away from Saltys on Alkai.

2 Stars: just the view..nothing else (by eljohnny)

The food was average.
The view was very nice. But thats it!
The service was terrible.
Attitude from the waiter, an eternity to get a room temp. Corona!?! and to pay my bill took almost 30 min.
Staff not unfriendly, but indiferent, seemed they didn't want to be there either.

Oyster appetizer very average, nothing special.
For oysters go to Elliots, and for drinks & food with a view...elliots, anthonys, ettas...etc etc.

2 Stars: Last Time (promise!) (by karenstandefer)

Last year I called ahead for reservations when my brother's family was visiting. We drove an hour to the restaurant and they turned us away saying they were sorry that they were booked (they told us on the phone that we would be easily accomodated). This year I took my son back. We had reservations and still had to wait 40 minutes after the time of the reservation. The staff were extremely rude to an elderly couple in front of us. The food was extremely common. The fish dishes were all overcooked and dry even though they were sauced. The deserts were great as usual. If you want to pay $27.95 for breakfast buffet to enjoy a great view, then this is the place to go. But, if you go for good food, you're best to stick with Chandlers, Ray's, Fishbone or some such place with really good food.

5 Stars: Best Brunch in Seattle (by lilithium)

We went for Sunday brunch the day after Valentines day and it was absolutely perfect. There was SO much food it was incredible - a made to order omlett station, more seafood than you can shake your fist at and anything else you could possibly want. The dessert choices were so fierce you'll probably want to starve yourself for a week before coming. Amazing view and a terrific staff...enjoy!

3 Stars: Good view.... (by achin)

The restaurant offers a good view of Seattle, and that is ALL. I ordered the Alaskan Halibut, and it was great. However, the price was astronomical! I agree that it is somewhat of a tourist trap akin to eating in Sausalito, CA for a view of San Francisco. For out-of-towners, eating there once will suffice, especially if one is on vacation and has money to burn. That's my only recommendation to go there if price isn't a concern.

3 Stars: FarmRaised Salmon.. (by allentime2k)

should be an oxymoron in an upscale Seattle "seafood" restaurant. Unless it's the Space Needle, where people don't know any better. While there were many appealing salmon entrees on the menu at Salty's, I was surprised when the server said their salmon was "Farm Raised" (yikes!) I opted for the lobster, which was OK, but pricey at $60 for a 2lb whole lobster. Also, I thought the mashed potatoes tasted like instant, thick and starchy. However, the view is nearly worht the price of admission, but if you want to impress with food, go elsewhere.

5 Stars: What a great Experience (by sharonlbeets)

Simply the greatest. It was my first visit to Seattle since I was a child of 10 years old. I was lucky that my supervisor asked me to attend a meeting for him. I was exstatic!

I called from the hotel to make reservations that morning I was picked up at the hotel around 6 pm. There was a beautiful black limo to pick me up. The driver was so very nice and escorted me into the limo and again out of the limo at the restaurant. Inside it was so exciting and so enchanting. My table was beside the window , I could see the beautiful sunset and the sea lions playing. I could hardly take my eyes off the view along with wonderful food..especially the coconut shrimp. The music was great! wonderful...ONE MUST vist Salty's again and again.

4 Stars: Not bad for 1x (by boeing_leo)

Well, Salty's is a west Seattle landmark, therefore everyone should try it at least once. On that note, you have to expect them to know this therefore you will definitely pay for it. I had dinner for 2, with a few drinks, a dozen oysters, no desert, costing 100+. I must say, the whole crab there is excellent. It takes a while to eat but its prepared in a wood burning oven with "thai" spices and ginger which makes for quite a treat. The waiter was very helpful and did a great job. We went a little early as to beat the dinner rush so the view was unobstructed and clear. Overall, not as bad as everyone says it is but definitely not what you pay for.

5 Stars: Great Service (by 206)

I was on a first date and wanted to impress her so I took her to Salty's. When we got there the hostess gave us a table next to the window with a great view of downtown. We started by ordering some drinks and when they came I was so nervous that I spilled my drink on the table and myself. The server was so helpful, she came and brought me club soda so that it didn't stain my clothes, cleaned the table and then brought out another drink. Little helpful things like this are hard to find these days in nice restaurants.

1 Stars: Bad Experience (by crob2112)

My recent visit to Salty's was my absolute worst dining experience in Seattle - ever. We recieved a bad bottle of wine. (it was a LeEcole Schoolhouse Red - typically a very good house). We asked to have it replaced with another selection. The wait person said sure, but the manager came out, insulted us twice (in front of other diners) and refused to replace the awful bottle of wine. It was a surreal expereicne. We quikly asked for a check, paid and left (we paid for the awful wine that we did not drink). The appetizer we had with the wine was fair to bad at best. My reccomendation would be to avoid Salty's alltoghether and instead frequent some of Seattle restaurants that don't only rely on a great view to attract customers.

Not having been to this one-time seattle instituion for years, I decided to take some out of town guests here before the tour. Seems as if good ol' Salty's has fallen on hard times. The view, of course, was amazing. The food was barely OK. Seemed as though our food had been made a while before it reached our tables-rather bland and unimaginative to boot. Salty's would be OK for an ordinary meal (though overpriced) but don't make plans for a special event.

2 Stars: TOO Salty's on Alki (by gundy)

Yuggers! The food we had was pretentious and poorly executed. Salmon, purple potatoes and green apple sauce mounded into one hideous heap and swimming in an unpalable apple sauce. Horrible! The kitchen should have just completed the final step of putting it through a blender and then served it via stomach tube.

The wait staff was, however, very good. Too bad they weren't working with decent food.

After years of lousy experiences, I recently decided to give Salty's another chance. Sadly, nothing has changed. I had a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes for my table. The food is still mediocre given the high prices and the service still falls short. The view is terrific, but not worth the price and shortcomings of Salty's. If you want the same view, go a block north to the little fish n' chips place. You'll get what you pay for, have a nice view, and can take a walk around Alki afterwards. Forget Salty's!

I'm a big brunch fan and have been taken to quite a few brunches. And Salty's is still my favorite because of its large, fresh selection of seafood. Yes, the view is nice, too and adds to the appeal. My only complaint would be the dessert table. Some of the cakes were a little bland. But their other dessert items, like caramel apple dumplings make up for it. Wish it isn't as expensive as it is, but I'm usually taken their for special occasions so I've never really had to worry about that.

2 Stars: why pay for the view? (by sarahbell)

salty's may have a great view- however... the food was less than what you would expect for the price. The waitstaff is anything but attentive.

2 Stars: Not Again (by cwilkey)

Several weeks ago we went to Salty's ordered the steamed clams in pesto. Was not eidable. This is the second time we have gone to Slaty's and the second time we have been really disappointed.

Stick to the bar, enjoy the view but skip the food.

Way overated.

3 Stars: Great Views & Happy Hour (by Natashia)

The best place to go for views of the Seattle skyline; the view at this Salty's are superb.

The calamari appetizer is light and tasty; all the rest of the food I've had here is fine (nothing incredible, but satisfyingly just what you'd expect).

If you think the prices are outrageous, sit in the lounge or on the deck during happy hour. There, you can enjoy beautiful views, great service, and good food, all at a reasonable price.

5 Stars: Seattle Sunset & Succulent Salmon! (by JimmyKimmel)

MY DATE & I HAD A FABULOUS TIME AT SALTY'S. Our table provided us with a breathtaking view of a gorgeous Seattle sunset on the city. In addition the appetizers were to die for, tiger prawns with a coconut breading, great calamari and tasty crab cakes! Then the entrees, for my date the Halibut with a portabella mushroom that had been marinated and prepared for two days (According to our personal wine steward, who was very engaging and knowledgeable). I had the king salmon, which I eat quite often and I must say Salty's chefs did a marvelous job preparing the fish. We finished off with a brilliant white chocolate topped cake, which was delicious as well. Our night at Salty's was a very memorable one and I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

2 Stars: Never again (by cleptich)

We used to take out of town visitors here, but it's gotten SO extremely expensive for mediocre food that we don't go to Salty's anymore. Just take the water taxi to West Seattle and eat somewhere cheaper with nicer service and less sticker shock!
