EXCELLENT! My 4 month old puppy has pneumonia and I really thought I was going to lose her. Fortunately, I made an appointment with Dr. Galloway at Rainier Veterinary Hospital and my sweet little munchkin is now (only a week later)

Dr. Knasiak provides in home euthanasia. He is afflilated with Rainier Vet Hospital as a surgeon I believe. He is compassionate, kind and I highly recommend him for what is a difficult decision. He helped our family cope.

I have been taking my dogs to RVH since 1982 and I love it there! I only had one issue with someone who isn't there anymore. Other than that, it is such a wonderful place to take animals. I like that they have appointments now, as that got rid of waiting sometimes for hours to be seen. But, as others have said, the wait was worth it. I started going to RVH when Dr. Kadener and Dr. Heino were there, and they were both the kindest people I have ever known. Very compassionate. Dr. Christine Susumi was there when I had to put my beloved beagle to sleep in 1992 and she and Dr. Heino were very supportive of me and gave our family time to say goodbye and grieve with our pet. Over the years, I have dealt with Dr. Heino mostly, and he is what I can only describe as a saint on this earth. Surely he will go to heaven for all the good he has done with my dogs. Everyone else there is helpful and kind and I can't think of a better place to get care for animals. I had to send my wonderful chocolate Lab, Rocky, to the Rainbow Bridge on September 27, 2011, one day shy of his 14th birthday. Dr. Heino came and with his daughter, they assisted me and my husband in easing Rocky out of his suffering. It was a terrible day for me, one of the worst, but it was better because of Dr. Heino and his daughter, Victoria. I have a new addition to my family, a baby male yellow Lab named Aksel, and we have been to Rainier Vet for checkups and shots and now see Dr. Choy. I have also seen Dr. Kung and Dr. K, Dr. Moriasu (sp) and a few others and they have all shown me and my dogs kindness and compassion. The prices are fair and the it's close to where I live. They also offer boarding services which I've used over the years. Overall, I would highly recommend RVH.

MissLilson ?? I specifically decided to write a review because your review really pissed me off!

I adopted my 2 year old Black Lab ??Annie? from Seattle Purebred Rescue in August 2010. I was referred to the Rainier Veterinary Hospital from David Wiley, who is a personal dog/obedience trainer with Barkbusters. David referred me there because he said that the vets are very good, rates are reasonable, and it is close to my home.

I took Annie for a wellness exam a few weeks ago, and we saw Dr. Heino. He was absolutely amazing! He spent over 1 hour with us and thoroughly went over every issue that we discussed. Annie received a vaccine, stool sample evaluation, and wellness check for only $78.

Today, I took Annie back to Dr. Heino for a follow up. He spent 45 minutes with us and was so kind. I am very sad that he has decided to retire at the end of 2010. I have found Dr. Heino??s staff very courteous, and even though Dr. Heino won??t be our vet after he retires, I will absolutely take Annie to another vet at the Rainier Veterinary Hospital!

This is the worst vet ever. We brought in my 10 year old golden retriever Daisy, for pain in her side and neck. After waiting to see the vet, he did not introduce himself and was very brief. The place had a distinct smell to it, and was very cramped. The vet did not answer any of our questions, and told us nothing except what we already knew. He did nothing to relieve the pain in her neck, and convinced us Daisy needed to have a blood test done, but he did not tell us how much it would cost. When he was done weighing her and drawing her blood, he gave us her leash and left. The receptionist gave us a large bill, $135 for the blood test. I will never bring my dog back here again, even if the check up is cheaper than other vets.

My elderly Devon Rex cat was very ill--17 years old and not feeling at all well.

These people had not seen her before. I was able to get an appointment within 24 hours.

These people have the best interests of the animal at heart. Dr. Moriyasu was very competent, and didn't get an attitude that some vets have. She sent my cat home medication and allowed me to give the sub-cu fluids at home, providing me with the Ringer's solution and kit for the fluids.

I love this doctor and this clinic. My cat may or may not have a few years left on this earth. For whatever time she does have left, the people at Rainier Veterinary Clinic will be her doctors. They are absolutely wonderful.

I have been taking my dogs and cats to Dr. Heino for the past 10 years. He has seen us thru several illnesses and even end stage for my beautiful Pit, Sarah. He is the finest Vet, very knowlegable, and a man of great compassion. The costs are more than reasonable. I will continue to see him as long as he continues to work.

I went to Rainier Veterinary and they provided great service for my Vizsla. I was recommended to them by a coworker with a Lab who received a lot of senior care (specifically through Dr. Heino), and she thought they were wonderful, inexpensive, didn't recommend unnecessary things, and helped her make informed decisions.

I agree. The place I ran into a problem was when I moved away and needed my dog's medical records sent to the new vet for continuity of care. However, Rainier vet isn't open on the later evenings or weekends when I call. Their voicemail does not take messages. When I go out of my way to call during business hours (when I should be studying/working/running errands), they are so busy that they don't pick up the phone. However, since, again, they have no voicemail or email, I have been unable to ask for them to send my dog's records to the new vet, despite 3 phone attempts and searching for an email/website via internet.

I appreciate their standard of care. I just wish I could get a hold of them so I wouldn't have to keep trying to call them.

Over 30 years of taking care of my many pets, I have nothing but praise for both Dr. Kung and Dr. Heino who recently sold the practice to Dr. Kung. Both doctors are genuinely concerned about the pets well being, and offer various alternatives for the pet owner's decision regarding the course of treatment. I have been treated with kindness and respect during times of economic difficulty, in addition to my loss of a loved one. Thank you.

Well, after enduring the rude abuse and high prices of my neighborhood veterinarian, I have finally found a high quality hospital with affordable prices. I'm with everyone else in my fave reviews for Dr. Heino but even the person who is responsible for performing the dental cleanings for pets is top quality. I was given an estimate for one of my cats of $1,000 for a dental exam, potential extractions, prelim blood panel, etc. elsewhere. I paid a fraction of that for the same services (including the preliminary blood exam) with 2 extractions and including take-home medication at Rainier. The professionalism of the vet techs and all of the staff was absolutely exemplary.

This place has my business because I feel comfortable in the knowledge that Rainier looks at my pets as patients in need of care as opposed to high-priced potential sales.

After researching many reviews I took our pair of 5 month old kittens here for check ups and to get familiar with the staff (I like to find one place and stick to it).

We were supposed to see Dr. Kung but due to a scheduling mix up we ended up seeing Dr. Moriyasu. I hadn't heard great things about her from the reviews, but I have no idea what those people were talking about.

Dr. Moriyasu was very professional and answered any questions we had. She didn't make us feel like idiots when telling us that we should've brought them in 3 times since we'd adopted them for boosters on their vaccinations. She diagnosed the sniffle one of our cats had had since we brought him home as most likely a secondary symptom of Feline Herpes and prescribed some antibiotics which cleared him right up. She was firm yet gentle when speaking to and handling our kitties. I would definately trust her with our cats health in the future.

When leaving, I was surprised how little it cost (vaccinations, exam and antibiotics came out to less than $80 each) and the techs/clerical staff were very friendly and helpful.

I'm looking forward to taking them back for boosters in a few weeks. This time I asked to see Dr. Heino, not because I didn't like Dr. Moriyasu, but after reading the reviews I've just got to see what this guy is like.

I am thrilled to see that Rainier Veterinary Hospital is in the most wonderful hands. I used to bring my pets there back in the mid-60's and would see Dr. Ben Kadaner who was so very kind and gentle with the animals. One day, my dog was hit by a car where I was living in West Seattle and I drove her to see Dr. Kadaner who took wonderful care of her - she had internal bleeding besides a broken foreleg and she was hung up in a leather type of "bag" for a week. It worked and she recovered beautifully - albeit with a right foreleg still in a cast for a few weeks so that, in the car, she would have to sit on my lap with the leg up in sort of a Sieg Heil gesture. Anyway, I have often thought of Dr. Kadaner and am still so appreciative of his kindness so many times, as I am so glad to read that the pet owners are today who see Dr. Heino. I wish there were veterinarians of Dr. Heino's caliber here in No. Idaho - oh, how I miss Camano Island and also Skagit County.

The rainier vet clinic is the only place I have taken my dog, but I don't have any reason to go elsewhere. Dr. Heino is a wealth of information. His examinations are thorough and provides clear explanations of what possible diagnosis and treatments are. My dog was having a bad allergy season and with his recommendations my little Phoebe is doing much better.

I recently had to have my fifteen year old cat euthanized due to continuing renal failure. It was a very difficult time for me as I live alone and the cat and I were "best friends." Dr. Heino gave me options, explained what would happen after I chose what I wanted and reassured me with the fact that, under the circumstances, I was being very unselfish. He gave me as much time as I wanted. I had lived in Seattle twenty-three years ago and had brought in another cat for services. As soon as I saw the doctor I remembered him. What a testimony to his dedication that he was still there giving his excelent care to so many animals through the years.

I am not sure what happened to the person who had the bad experience with Rainier Vet, but I'm sure it was a fluke. Rainier Vet has the best staff in Seattle and Dr. Heino is the most compassionate, thoughtful and thorough vet. While it is slightly inconvenient to not be able to make an appointment, the benefit of having a vet who takes time to carefully examine and most importantly, have an informed and unrushed conversation with the owner trumps the wait.

I have had three cats and when the first one was sick and drying, Dr. Heino treated her with compassion, gave her pain management in her last days, returned my phone calls when I was questioning "was it time," and took great care and sensitivity in putting her down. I have just adopted a new kitty this weekend and tomorrow morning we are heading off to Rainier Vet for a thorough check-up and make sure we are off to a healthy start.

I've come here with my pets for 4 years (2 cats and a dog). The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable and they treat your pet as if it is their own. The only negative is the fact that you can't make appointments, drop-in only, so you can have no wait time or you may wait several hours. unless you can come early in the morning I would avoid coming in on a Saturday (if you can). Rainier Vet also has affordable boarding services too (but I haven't used them yet). All of my pets have received great care from routine shots to surgeries from cat fights. The prices are about half of what I've paid at other places and the service is better at Rainier Vet then any of the higher-end vets I've been to. Some people might be put off by the decor or the old-school 70's vibe, but I don't go to a vet for the decor. Also, Dr. Heino, Dr. Kung, and Dr. K are all extremely helpful and knowledgeable, especially Dr. Heino, he always goes into detail on how to care for my pets and how to keep them happy and healthy.

I have been taking my 2 dogs to Dr Heino for years. I can tell you from experience that no other vet clinic seems to care and listen to your pet's needs as much as Clifford Heino, DVM does. He takes his time and listens to your concerns. This is also the most inexpensive vet that I have ever found! My dog had surgery to remove a tumor and the bill was under $200.

I have been taking my two persians to Dr. Heino for a number of years and he is a wonderful veterinarian who clearly is dedicated to the health and welfare of all of his patients. He always takes time to very carefully let you know what is going on with your pet and will return your phone calls if he thinks he can serve you by phone. His prices are fair and on the low side and his is a drop-in clinic. Dr. Heino is an exceptional vet and teacher. I highly recommend him to anyone with a pet.

I recently had to put one of my dogs down since he had cancer and was really old. I was really sensative about the whole event. I ended up arriving later that day near closing time. There were several people ahead of me, but I was immediately ushered into a room when I explained what I was doing there. Dr.Heino has a big heart and it's obvious that he truly does care about your pet even if he's just met you. He explains everything in a very understandable way and any options there are. The other vet I used to go to didn't even make half as much sense as Dr. Heino does. This veterinary clinic has the most caring people who truly are passionate about what they do and are good at their jobs. The place is clean and organized and exactly where I want my new puppy to be if he ever falls ill. I can rest easy knowing he is constantly watched over by caring animal loving people. As for money wise, this place is really reasonable. As a student, money is tight. But this place doesn't charge you an outrageous amount for something small (unlike Mercer Island Vet.). I would reccommend this vet hospital a million times over

As for money wise, this place is really reasonable. As a student, money is tight. But this place doesn't charge you an outrageous amount for something small (unlike Mercer Island Vet.). I would reccommend this vet hospital a million times over

I gladly wait to see Dr. Heino when my cats or dogs are ill or need shots or even need their nails trimmed. He is compassionate and caring -- and aware that many of his clients can't afford much. Dr. Heino explains conditions very well, using analogies so that those of us who did not take science classes can understand. I admire him: he works 7 days a week and rarely takes a vacation. He has arthritis and a bad back and he still devotes himself to the animals. Dr. K, the surgeon is also good but a little brusque because English is not his native language.

Pros: Caring compassionate vet and staff; great listening skills

Cons: No appointments

I recently brought my pet in for boarding. My dog was returned to me with runny bowel movements (this site won't let me use other descriptions) crusted to his stomach and a rash underneath when I cleaned him up. The staff was not aware he had any problems while boarding and never noticed a large mass crusted to his stomach. How often did anyone even look at my dog??

The excuse I was given when I questioned the level of care provided was that the Boarding Manager was on vacation and my dog would have been better cared for if she was in town. When I asked to find a way to resolve the issue I was told that I was out of luck and these things just happen. (Not at a vet clinic my pet would go to!)

Also missing a large portion of expensive pet food that was brought in with my pet and nail trim was done poorly. Would not recommend to anyone, regardless of the price.

I FIRST MET DR. HEINO SIX YEARS AGO , WHEN MY CAT KIISAW WAS ATTACKED BY A ROTTIE..SHE HAD A HUGE GASH IN HER CHEST AND WAS SWOLLEN AND COULD HARDLY STAND UP..ON SUNDAY I PHONED THIS OFFICE AND EXPLAINED WHAT WAS GOING ON AND HE SAID"BRING HER ON IN" I ARRIVED THERE SHORTLY...WITH MY CAT AND HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING IN DETAIL AND I ASKED HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST..I WAS AFRAID OF BIG VET BILLS, BECAUSE I HAD ALWAYS RECIEVED THEM FROM OTHER VETS. HE SAID DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT RIGHT NOW, KIISAW NEEDED SURGURY AND WAS KEPT IN HIS CARE FOR THREE DAYS...AND AMAZINGLY WHEN I CAME TO GET KIISAW, SHE WAS HALF SHAVEN AND TUBES STICKING OUT OF HER AND HAD A CONE AROUND HER HEAD, BUT SHE WAS WALKING...WHAT STRUCK ME ABOUT THIS GENTLE MAN, IS THAT HE REALLY LOVES ANIMALS, HE ISN'T GLITZY OR GLAMOROUS , HIS OFFICE IS RETRO 60'S AND THE NO APPT WALK-IN APPROACH IS WELL WORTH THE WAIT...THE MAN SAVED MY CAT AND THE CHARGE WAS WELL BELOW WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE...I LOST KIISAW A FEW YEARS LATER TO OLD AGE, AND HAVE SINCE TAKEN GATTA AND KARMA TO HIM EVER SINCE...I LOVE THAT MY CATS GET GREAT CARE , SHOTS, CHECK-UPS AND EXPERT OPINION AND ADVICE THAT IS FULL OF LOVE.
CHEERS TO YOU DOC.

Pros: GREAT LOVING CARE-WITHOUT HOLLYWOOD VET PRICES

Cons: FIRST COME FIRST SERVED-HE'S WORTH THE WAIT

I've been going to Rainier Veterinary and Dr. Heino for a number of years now. I've been to many others in the Seattle area and while adequate, none provided the level of knowledge and care I get from Rainier Veterinary.

I have yet to find another vet like Dr. Heino who will spend 30 minutes plus with you and your pet on an annual checkup. It's true they don't take appointments (except for surgeries), so it's first come, first served. However, there is a reason people will wait, sometimes hours, to get in and why people sometimes line up an hour before opening on Saturdays.

Dr. Heino, et al, are always patient, thorough and explain all the options available. Dr. Heino has also provided specialist referrals when my dogs have needed care beyond what his clinic can provide. It's a welcome change to take my dogs to the vet when they love seeing Dr. Heino.

My dogs deserve only the best care and they get it (for a reasonable price to boot) at Rainier Vet Hospital!

Took our dog here because he was having some discomfort from a previous knee surgery done two years ago by another vet. Dr. Heino's associate vet spent a lot of hands on time with our before making her diagonosis that the knee was stable and did not recommend expensive procedures or x-rays. She perscribed an anti-inflamitory told us a list of things we could do to ease any future discomfort he might have. In addition: Good parking. Very short wait to see the vet. Easy to get to from Montlake, Capitol Hill, Seward Park areas etc. Least we have paid for any vet visit in the city and our dog got booster shots, the knee check up and the anti-inflamitory. Friendly office staff. Clean but original 1960s waiting room - money goes towards my dogs comfort not mine :-).

My favorite vet. Not trendy and upscale, just an amazingly knowlegable vet who has seen everything, it seems. Gave my 18 year old diabetic cat better care than we'd received elsewhere for 3 times the price. Outlines your options, explains everything clearly, with as much medical detail as you want - and no more. The young woman who works with him (whose name I"ve forgotten, sorry) is also excellent.

Dr.Heino will patiently explain the condition of your pet and all your options so that everything is understandable. He does not try to weigh-in on your perhaps life-and-death decision, but gives a realistic, humane view of the situation. The first-come, first-served manner of seeing patients sometimes takes some time sitting with your pet in the waiting room, BUT, you will always get in - none of this 'appointment' stuff. Dr. Heino works with each patient on an individual basis and does everything he can to help. I've moved away from the immediate area, but still come back to him to doctor my special needs cat. I love and respect Dr. Heino!
