A-Maz-Ing! Every time I go in, I am impressed by another new, homemade, creative dish or baked good. The best buckwheat pancakes I have ever tasted! Enjoy a sit down lunch, then visit the bakery bar and take some goodies home with you. You won't be disappointed!

Wild Wheat is a Kent favorite, and is almost always packed. The women in my family as well as friends go there regularly as a weekend get-together. But lately the quality is hit or miss.

The last time I was there the holandaise sauce was thin, runny, with almost no lemon. It should be rich, creamy, thick, with a hint of lemon. There was no seasoning on the home fries. Usually I love the fruit on the plate but it was warm and covered in hollandaise which made it unappetizing.

My friend had french toast and there were little eggshell peices in it. She would have sent it back but she lost her appetite over it.

In the visit before that my mom had the blintzes and she loved them. She said the pancakes were very thin, and the stuffing was perfectly sweet. My sister had an omlet that she said was really good - fluffy and well stuffed with veggies and cheese. My eggs florentine were still so-so, with runny hollandaise on thin bread that was so dry around the edges I couldn't cut it with a knife. That dry bread thing mystified me because the bread wasn't toasted.

I took home a cinnamon roll and it was very dry. My friend got a loaf of bread which was also dry. Save your money on the baked goods and give them a miss.

The service was pretty good, which surprised me seeing each waitperson had so many tables to serve and the place was so packed. They really hustled. Though I still had to wait a bit long to pay my bill. I finally walked up front to the cashier and paid it.

Wild Wheat is still worth a visit, because overall it has yummy food, but it doesn't meet the standard of excellence I was hoping for and had come to expect. At the prices they charge (about $20-$25 total per person for breakfast), I expect the food to be great every time.

Cons: Variable quality, high prices

Gone way down hill recently, this owner does not care about his customers, employees or quality control. All the bread is baked the night before and sits on the shelf all night long til morning, so that would be day old prices doesn't seem fresh now does it? The Pain au levain used to taste like sourdough now it's just BLAH, did we lose the sourdough starter? Also rosemary garlic bread shouldn't have chunks of garlic rolled on the outside of the loaf. Have bought many loaves from PCC Markets in the seattle area and quality control is non existant. Also employees don't look like they like working there and it shows, should they be texting or preparing meals for the customers. And is the restaurant food FRESH and what about the bread basket tastiers, are they the returns from the stores? Stay away from the nasty quiche and the cookies that are left out all day near grimy hands and peoples mouths. Better off going down the street to Panera and picking up fresh bread, bagels made right and fresh soup. Time to sell Mark!

Love Wild Wheat! We recently moved to Kent and heard good things nonstop about Wild Wheat. We've been a few times and everything was always great. the servers are attentive, friendly and quick. The Latte was HUGE and super hottt! The blintzes, pancakes, potatoes... good, great, fabulous. Personal fave is the eggs benedict. Their Hollandaise is to die for. I have only sampled a few goodies from their heavenly bakery. Sooo tempting! Everything looks great, fresh and smells heavenly. It is a little noisy. The noise bounces around in there, but we could still hold a conversation. The kids meals are fab too. Always a plus for those with little ones.

I used to go here all the time with my girlfriends and we got friendly with some of the staff that we saw on a regular basis. The owner started treating them really badly and ended up either driving them away or docking their hours. The food is decent, but it's way over priced for what it is. So without our friendly regulars we really didn't have a reason to go back. I am vegan and could pretty much only ever order the potatoes or oatmeal and bread, and when I asked the owner about including a tofu scramble or something he said he would and all we had to do was ask the next time we were in. But we did and there was nothing. Never was. So I don't go anymore and some of my friends have said it's just not what it used to be. Too bad. Sounds like there might be good servers there now, but it's too late for me.

Like the last reviewer, we were disappointed that the breakfast toast came unbuttered. The butter doesn't melt into toast unless it goes on when it's hot. We visited during a weekday, the room wasn't crowded, but it was noisy and hard to hear conversation. I think that's just the room, too many hard surfaces. The food was very good, though, the coffee good and the waitress refreshed our cups often. We will return to buy bread.

We frequent this establishment on a regular basis. The manager is very alert and accommodating to customer's needs. I am impressed with the quality of food and variety of entrees. You must try their desserts when you are finished with your main course. This place can get busy, so beat the lunch crowd and try to get there by 11:30 a.m.

This small cafe attracts quite a crowd on a Sunday morning. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, with the hostess checking in with us twice to let us know our status.

The coffee was weak, but that aside, the food was wonderful. Attentive wait staff kept refills going of the weak coffee. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine; I've never seen anything like it -- had to be about 1/4 of the pie! It was freshly prepared and unparalleled to any quiche I've been served. It came with potatoes, toast and a small piece or two of fruit.

My husband ordered a smoked salmon omelette and it was also delicious. A few things that could have been better -- the toast is not buttered, it's a small thing admittedly...they leave it for the guest to do. I mentioned the weak coffee; due to the extraordinary number of guests there, the food was a bit delayed, but warm and tasty upon arrival.

My only real disappointment was not being able to be heard by the other couple we were with. I probably wouldn't go there again with that particular purpose in mind on a Sunday morning. But I will be back. And I say five stars for the food -- it is something to experience.

What a beaufitull location in Historic area of Kent, WA. Interestingly designed with warm colors and local artist makes it comfortable to have a delicious cup of coffee while awaiting for your mouthdrulling smocked salmon omlet, and the best of it, a freshly backed bread & a side of warm butter. And as your getting close to be done with you dish a order of blincis covered with blueberry jam and a spoon of sower cream. Yam. Makes You wana be hungry for more. Wish I could find a place to relax and have a delicious breakfast like that in Bellevue, WA. :)

My wife and I love this place. The atmosphere could not be better and is somewhat trendy yet very comfortable. Usually busy, but the wait is never long. Food is very good, not the best in the world but very good. I love all the bread choices for the french toast!

Also, to the reviewer that said to "bring a white friend if you are not" most of the waitresses and staff aren't white you idiot. This place also does not have a "small town mindset" it feels more like you are in Seattle than Kent. One more thing, they have about ten waitresses at all times so the one waitress thing sounds like BS to me.

I had heard about Wild Wheat form a friend and decided to sample the food there. I was whole heartedly impressed with not only the service , but thier array of various items on the menu. I had tried eggs benedict before and wasn't impressed, but decided to try my luck. I think I have found a new favorite food for breakfast. I would recommend this place who is wanting to eat a little more healthy, and watch thier budget as well. 5 stars overall

The food is really good; best pancakes I've ever had. Although the food was fabulous, most patrons here seem a little weary of "outsiders." This is a fabulous place if you're white, but if you're not get ready for some stares (more unwelcoming than curious). They also didn't have enough waiters (one for breakfast) and the ambiance feels a little like a cafeteria.

Advice: Bring a white friend as a passport if you're not.

Have been going monthly to meet friend. Always good service, great coffee and the food is delicious. We are always there for more than an hour and the wait staff just keeps filling our coffee cups and let's us be, never rushes us. I have recommended them many times and would do so again.

Besides the wonderful lunch that they serve their fresh baked bread espically the foccia and their delicious cakes makes this a unique and wonderful bakery that the southend has. They even take reservations for Mother's Day.

I schedule all my breakfast meetings here, and wish I could stay and eat lunch too! Fresh bread and pastries baked on site, and a wonderful breakfast menu. Staff goes the extra mile in their food presentation (i.e. foam leaves in lattes, twisted fruit garnish, sprinkled spices on all entrees, and homemade jam). Fantastic!

This is easily one of the best kept secrets in Seattle / Kent / Valley - great breakfast, really good bread (wild wheat - the same stuff you see at Whole Foods, PCC) amazing servers (really cute, nice girls all over the place) - zero attitude - fun service - great comfort food. The coffee and the bakery items are all roasted / made in house. Lots of local and fresh ingredients. The art on the walls is interesting but I'm not sure it's their high point.

It's usually busy so remember that as well. I've never had to wait for a table, but when we have it's been worth it. Great brunch and great lunch. No dinner...

This is may FAVORITE place to eat breakfast and even lunch. Their superb choice of breakfast items could satisfy anyone. I personally love their simple Wild Wheat Breakfast, and for lunch the Mongolian Beef sandwhich is amazing. I would highly reccomend this resteraunt to anyone who enjoys greak food and pleasant service.

I've been to this restaurant quite a few times and tried probably everything on the breakfast menu and lunch menu. I certainly like some things better than others, but have enjoyed everything I have tried. My favorite breakfast is the 3 egg omelette with the whole wheat toasted bread, but, again, they are all good. I've been there during busy and not-so-busy times and have had excellent service either way. Saturday mornings are busy and parking can be tight (but hey, a little walk after all those delicious carbs is probably a good idea). Weekdays I have never had a problem getting a spot within feet of the entrance. I don't live in the Puget Sound anymore, but make it a point to eat here whenever I am. Even when I'm staying at a hotel downtown. Seattle has a lot of great breakfast places and this one is definitely on par with them and better than most. I also spent a lengthy time in Europe and miss the pastry shops so having high quality pastries like Wild Wheat has is great.

I love this place.

Absolutely....my wife and myself go here every weekend. We can't get over this place. The food is great, the service is fast, and by now we know the waitstaff really well. They make us feel very comfortable. They know exactly what we eat, how we like it prepared....crab and asparagus omelete split between us, their great whole wheat hazelnut toast with currents.....and the pastries are to die for. Trust me people, the price is right, the food is great, the girls that work there are the very sweet...My wife personally likes the dessert case, the one filld with few of our favs....lemon tarts, hazelnut and chocolate cake, triple choc mousse cake....yummm...Go here!

We saw great reviews so we decided to give this place a try. Within seconds of walking in we were seated, i noticed that they didn't have breakfast items on the menu (1pm on sat), i tried to flag down a waiter to ask if they had another menu but they just walked by. we decided to just order from the menu but we wanted coffee but the waiters were helping everyone who came after us (our menus were already placed down. after 20mins of no service we walked out (first time ever). We are asian and everyone else was white except one minority waitress next to the cash register not sure if that had anything to do with it but i never had no service for so long. they usually ask if you want coffee or something to do drink but they didn't. The lunch menu didn't have really anything interesting except homemade chocolate syrup for hot chocolate.

Pros: None "no service was provided"

Cons: no service

My husband and I eat at Wild Wheat at least a couple times a month. The soups are creative. The sandwiches are great and the macaroons are terrific! We like to share a sandwich and add a salad or soup. That way we have room for macaroons. My husband likes the chocolate dipped. I like the plain. If it is your first time take a loaf a bread home. The breads are terrific too!

It says parking lot, but I am not sure where that is. There is parking on the street and sometimes you have to walk a block or two.

From inside you can see out a half-glass wall to a lovely little park on the North side with a beautiful huge horse-chestnut tree, and another block up is a Japanese garden put in by Kent's sister city in Japan, and a little more linear park after that up to the King County library. After we eat we always go for a stroll through the gardens up to the end of the park. Everyone enjoyed seeing train go by.

We just took another couple with us to breakfast here, and we had been once before. The breakfast menu is wonderful, and the omelets etc are elegant. The potato slices are wonderfully browned and not to salty. I like to eat food when I am out that I cannot easily make at home, so the big choice of carefully prepared foods is great. The coffee is excellent. And the toast is a real treat with about 6 different choices of bread. They do have a few tables outside on the sidewalk also. Our friends really enjoyed this breakfast out and we plan to arrange to meet up there again in the future. I do wish they would do something better with the acoustics, as it does get loud when the place gets filled up.

Excellent service, and the best artisan bakery around. All of the dishes are unique and and made with fresh ingrediants. I love the blue cheeseburger, and the fresh halibut and chips. I also enjoy the awesome breakfast on the weekends. A highly recommended place for someone who enjoys better quality.

After looking forward to eating here for months, it was a major disappointment, particularly where the service was concerned. We arrived for lunch with the restaurant nearly empty, but were seated in a front window literally elbow to elbow with another diner. The hostess disappeared immediately so we moved to another table on our own. The seafood tempura plate was okay, but the fish was tasteless and the batter still sort of gummy inside. The plate included caesar salad dressing in a cup--instead of tartar sauce, maybe? The waitress forgot the caesar salad that went with it, saying she didn't usually serve lunch, but did bring it about 10 minutes after we had the main course. Coffee refills were minimal. She brought the check not even midway into lunch without even asking if we wanted dessert. Is this not a restaurant known for its desserts? And after putting my credit card in the folder, it remained on the table after we finished eating, our plates also still sitting in front of us, until I took it up to the cashier, where we again waited for several minutes for a cashier to come over to the counter. After reading numerous reviews about the great food and even better service, my experience was severely lacking. Having been a waitress in years past, I definitely understand when things go wrong, but this was just plain overall poor service from start to finish. I love my desserts, all kinds of desserts, but I couldn't even muster enough enthusiasm to buy a brownie or pastry to go. Won't bother to go back.

Pros: Looks cute. Bakery counter looked very good.

Cons: Poor service. Very noisy.

i find myself going to the wild wheat for their herb and cheese omelet. its always prepared correctly. however, its always sided by under seasoned breakfast potatoes(ever heard of SALT!) that are mostly overcooked or have been oxidized.. . i have tried their pastries and cakes that are presented well. i'd have to say that they are MEDIOCRE at best.

i will never go back for lunch. i ordered the Caesar salad with grilled chicken. it was hardly edible. the lettuce was not dried properly, leaving a soggy disgusting mess at the bottom of my plate. the chicken was a disgrace. it was so thinly sliced and dry it resembled JERKY. how could you serve something like that?

on a good point. they have mastered their pain au levain (sourdough). it is DELICIOUS. and all their other breads look great too.

this restaurant just needs a little bit of work. Buy some S&P. sharpen their pastry skills, use real chicken instead of pre-sliced junk! and put some d@mn sugar on the tables for my coffee!!!!!!!!!

I felt that the food was overpriced for the quality given. The server was rude, i understand that every one has a bad day but there is a point to stop showing it at work. I remember about a year or so they use to do dinners, they where tasty. But then towards the end the chief left and who ever took over did not do as well of a job. I thought i would give they another chance but I was disappointed again.

Went to Wild Wheat on 6-24-07 specially for the Stolen Bread French Toast. This was my fifth visit to Wild Wheat. The Stolen French Toast was on the specials list but we were told by the waitress that were out of the bread used to make this dish. I recognized the waitress from previous visits and informed her that the Stolen French Toast was also sold out the last time I visited. I told the Hostess that I wish to speak to the manager. The Hostess returned a few minutes later and asked if there was anything she could do to "make our day better". I reiterated that I wish to speak with the manager. We ordered food, eat and paid the bill but the manager NEVER came over to speak with us. Being out of a dish is acceptable. Being out the bread used to make french toast at a bakery (twice) is quite odd. The manager refusing to speak with me is unacceptable. I will not return anytime soon.

My husband and I moved to the south end (Des Moines) from Edmonds almost two years ago, and up until eating here we had not found ANYWHERE in the area that serves a decent breakfast. (Not for lack of trying, mind you!) That being the case I went in with low standards, and came out ecstatic. The seating and service were prompt, the menu was excellent, and the food...absolutely AMAZING! The Quiche Lorraine is out of this world, and delicious freshly baked sourdough toast was a real treat. THANK YOU, Wild Wheat, for providing a much needed service to our community!!!

My parents and siblings are crazy about this place, but I find it a bit pricey and uncomfortable. You've gotta fight for a table, and it has the ambiance of a cafeteria. And there are never enough wait staff for the huge crowd that eats here.

Nevertheless, the food is good, and the bread is awesome. And apparently, I'm the only person who doesn't understand the appeal, because everyone else raves over it.

Wild Wheat is a combination bakery/restaurant located in the historic downtown area of Kent. Their efforts being both a bakery and a restaurant did not detract from either. Wild Wheat has a very nice, cordial wait staff who stick around which is nice considering they could make considerably more money at a Seattle restaurant. The selection for breakfast is very good , the only knock I would have is it never changes and they don't have any specials. The size and presentation is very nice. The restaurant doesn't have any carpeting or anything to hold down the noise level, so when it is full it can be quite loud. I would recommend it for nice weekend breakfast anytime. They tried to stay open for dinner and unfortunately they didn't have enough patronage to make it.

My husband and I LOVE this place. The atmosphere is not what you'd expect- the furnishings are very clean, but you'll notice the artwork on the walls. The paintings change periodically, but are always brightly colored. Several booths and many tables in the dining area. Depending on what time you go, there may be a wait. We tend to be there very early (8 am on weekends) and we never miss getting a seat.

The menu has lots of choices, from oatmeal to blintzes (I am originally from Chicago and love blintzes- if you don't know what they are, this is a good place to try them). The crust on the quiche is absolutely wonderful, buttery and flaky. THey always offer two quiche choices, but we always order quiche lorraine when we can. Bacon, onions and egg, who can say no???? Even the oatmeal is served with toast or fruit and is not the instant stuff!!!! The service is good, and portions are huge. At least 6 selections for toast, and if you're not a toast person, you can always substitute with fruit. Also they serve most egg dishes with yummy potatoes. As for drinks, they have lattes, real coffee, and many juice choices- or Coke for breakfast, if you like.

Also- this a great place to pick up pastries for your next family get- together. They are huge! There is also a breakfast on the menu where you can order those- they are not to be missed! We have also ordered the Quiche Lorraine for showers and family parties.

Initially walking into this restaurant, I was a little hesitant considering the location is in downtown Kent, but persuaded to sit down by my grumbling stomach and have a meal, I did. I have to say I have been to some of the fanciest restaurants in Seattle, and dined in some of the most trendy spots around, but this place apart from the decor thats a little drab, is well worth anyone's time. The food is served in gigantic portions, the service is excellent, and considering I went in on a mid-Friday which is very busy, the waitstaff (a bunch of adorable girls) handled it very well. Having also read the previous comment from a rather Unhappy, I have to say as an ex-waitress, if given more than 8 tables at a time, things tend to get a little hectic so bare with them. Other than that, this place is tres chic!

Pros: Great Everything.

Cons: Not the I dont think the girls can handle it, but having a waitlist and more seating up front would help, no one should mind a 5 min wait.

.

We've eaten there numerous times and the food is always first rate. The service however is consistently slow - while we are seated quickly the time from order to food arrival has been consistently 30-40 minutes regardless of how busy the place is. The wait staff are in attentative to customer needs - for example, I had coffee - in the time we sat there and ate I was never offerred a refill. We also consistently have to ask for the bill.

If you want fast service there are better places in Kent to have breakfast/lunch.

I give the food 5 stars. They will cater to any dietary needs and are hapy to make any substitutions you like. The portions are large so you can share if you like. The omlettes and Blintzs are a must. Any of the baked goods are superb, so you can't go wrong there. Service is outstanding, even when busy. I highly recommend... This is our new Sunday Morning Breakfast spot!

Kent is deffinitely a hard city to find quality food and service, but every Sunday morning after church I love to come here and have blintzes, really they are the best. They great either for dining in or if you just want to stop by and grab some baked goods (croissants, great fresh artisan breads etc). You will not find another restaurant around here (that includes especially federal way/auburn area) that has really fresh quality items like this.
