Message from Stellar Pizza , Ale & Cocktails

Stellar Pizza & Ale is an independent, family owned full-service restaurant located in the Georgetown neighborhood in South Seattle. Everything at Stellar is homemade - pizza, pasta, soups and sandwiches. We have eight Micro brews on tap, plus a great selection of bottled beer and wine, pool tables and good old-fashioned pinball games. We are family friendly, up until 9pm.

Editorial by Citysearch

The Scene
Tucked in Seattle's south end, the industrial Georgetown neighborhood offers a smattering of hip spots, including this pizza hangout filled with cool cultural artifacts. A giant letter S, a red-neon remnant from an Esso sign, dominates the dining room; several '80s pinball machines and old beer signs start conversations in the pool-table room. Service is slow and a little absentminded but friendly nonetheless.

The Food
Pasta dishes make a cameo, but hand-tossed pizzas are the main attraction. Thick, chewy crusts, gobs of toppings and a molten mountain of mozzarella are hallmarks here. For those who shy from nouveau pizza concepts, the Beanie offers piles of pepperoni and cheese. And for vegetarians, the Roma-and-feta Eddy the Greek and garlic-and-spinach Courky's Veggie are your best bets. The Flora Primo is a must-try, crackling with spicy Italian sausage and artichoke hearts.

Key Points

  • Dine In or Take Out
  • Full Bar, 100% Non-smoking
  • Family and Group Friendly

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - On some Saturday evenings, Stella's staff shoos diners out of the pool room and turns the pizza joint into a live-music venue.
  2. When to Go - The restaurant stays family friendly until 9pm, at which time the place usually starts attracting an older, beer-guzzling crowd.

Unique atmosphere, good pizza

by Roy C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,248

This is truly a unique atmosphere, but the pizza is great for a small pub. Piercings and tatoos seem to be a requirement for waitpersons. Not in the most appealing part of town, but a great spot for group outings.

Cool Little Place in Georgetown

by DWood

Very cool restaurant in the Georgetown neighborhood of south Seattle. I had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich which was very good! Also was able to get a salad instead of other side that came with it.

Only gave 4 stars because I've only been once. Want to go back when I have time for Pizza or a Calzone!

Pros: Menu

Cons: Area of Town

Love Stellars!!!!

by WendeKay

My husband and I having been going for years!! Love the pizza, best in town and the calzones are tasty too! The staff is friendly, and knows how to take care of their customers!! It?s a funky, artsy pizzeria! Regarding "rebekahlu review"?If the kitchen is too hot, then get out! Better yet maybe you need a drink to unwind!!

Pros: Great food! Great Service!

Cons: Parking sometimes is tight... but you can usually park in the back if lot full!!

With so many great places close by, don't waste your time

by rebekahlu

What a huge disappointment! I will give them this: the food is good. But save it for take out! You do not want to invest more than a phone call and 5 mins ringing up at this place.

Some drunk employee??? friend of the staff??? was SCREAMING from the bar to the kitchen. My order was screwed up twice. (How hard is it to mess up soup and salad?) Seriously, $8 for wine and $6 for beer at a neighborhood restaurant in Georgetown considering the bad service and nutso clientele? Come on!

NEVER GOING BACK!

Pros: Food is good

Cons: Service is horrible, drinks are very overpriced, decor is cliche but cute

Great pizza and calzones, service is ok

by suzymccormick

We have been here about a dozen times. The food is always excellent, sometimes it takes longer than others. The servers are always fairly friendly - but do not own up to mistakes or make any apologies.

One night my husband and I were there with four other people. Everyone ordered pizza and he ordered a calzone. After our pizza was served and we were halfway through with it we flagged down the waitress to ask where the calzone was. She informed us that it takes longer for calzones (totally true); however, a half hour later with no calzone we asked about it again. The same comment was made - a half hour later we asked AGAIN, the waitress finally looked confused herself. After my husband waited for two hours he got his calzone, no apology waqs made - and not a dime off of the check!

The pizza here is greagt, and other than that time we have had pretty good service - so we will definately be back.

The 1 1/2 pizza/hr joint

by MistralFrances

Me I and my friends were made wait 45 minutes for a salad, and 1.5 hrs for a pizza. The pizza never came because we left, not without first hear from a disrespectful manager that the pizza there takes that long (but not for other tables of course).

They kept serving other patrons way before us. In 1 1/2 hrs the wait staff stopped by our table only once to check on drinks. After complaining about the wait, they indicated that we needed to wait like everybody else (but everybody else had already food on their tables). The manager was worse than the wait staff. Well, I guess that's why they work at Stellar. The food might be good but too bad the owners don't keep an eye on the staff.

Pros: pizza

Cons: staff

You couldn't ask for worse service

by Bhim

I'll make this brief!!

The arrogance, the ignorance and rude service from the wait staff is what will cost them dearly in the long run. If their oven size is limited, then don't seat people and make them wait 1.5 hrs for a pizza. Also, don't serve food to tables that were seated 15-20 later than the one that has already been waiting over an hour for their food. Don't lie and obnoxiously ridicule customers. We all know how long it takes to make a pizza. And please teach your wait staff the magical word "I AM SORRY." No doubt your pizza is good, but your service is horrible. Goodbye Stellars, hello Tutta Bella/All Purpose Pizza

Pros: Good Pizza

Cons: Horrible service, seems Capital Hill service (I am so cool) has moved down here

Desserts! Chocolate, Tiramisu, Spumoni

by timruddock

Nobody has mentioned their desserts! They have this hot fruit and granola thing with ice cream, and this deadly chocolate cake, and marvelous tiramisu. My wife can never decide, has to flip a coin to decide between the three of them. And they've got spumoni ice cream .. sometimes you just have a craving for spumoni, you know?

sit up at the bar and they never ignore you ... heck, they all call me by name when I come in, I feel like I'm at Cheers. "Hi Tim! Want another Manny's" "You Bet!"

I just wish they were open after midnight, but I guess you've got to sleep sometime.

Pros: amazing italian flavors

Cons: parking lot too small on busy nights

Best Pizza in Town

by cjlittle

I have been a patron at Stellar Pizza for several years now and find it to be a great place to enjoy a cold pint and a slice of pie. I have always had excellent service and the owner personally takes an interest in my experience. Try the "Corson Classic" potato piza - it is awesome. The beer selection features many local micros and the cocktails are prepared with love.

Pros: Great, handmade dough

Cons: None

Will never return

by lorie12345

I have been to Stellar on two occasions now and I have found the service to be sub par at best. The first time I was there, I assumed that the poor service was due to the fact that I was with a larger group. After visiting a second (and final) time) I realize that the service is just inadequate and the ownership is inept.

I met a friend late afternoon on a Friday to have a few beers and something to eat. After ordering a pitcher of beer and a meal, we spent 5-10 minutes flagging down a server to provide us with another pitcher.
Upon paying the bill, we had yet another person tell us that they had people waiting 45 minutes for a table and asked us to vacate our table. Now, please keep in mind that there is another side to the restaurant that was completely empty except for a few signs for tables that were reserved for hours in advance, so there were tables available for these customers ?who had been waiting 45 minutes.?

We flagged down a server again to comment about the rudeness of the request to vacate the table and were referred to the manager. The manager proceeded to dance around the issue and finally admitted that it was the actual owner that had requested us to vacate the table. So, I understand that the server's manager?s hands were tied. However, it does tell me that the owners have no interest in customer retention and they are the source of the poor service.

I will never return and wil tell all of my friends and colleagues about the lack of service and the poor attitude of at least one of the owners.

Pros: None that I have seen

Cons: Service, price, owner's service

This isn't "just" play time

by silence_is_

Every body whines about the staff. I find them wonderfully focused ... on one thing at a time. If you can deal with that, you?ll have a great experience. I always do, unless I get too caught up in one of my many co-horts reality frame. Every day is a little bit of the giddy halloween dream.

Pros: Mood / Music / Micro-brews

Cons: 2 many fussy customers clogging up my fun

LOUSY SERVICE, LOUSY ATTITUDE...OVERPRICED

by ldh57

About three times now, I have gotten horrid service. I am done with them, now. It takes FOREVER to get drinks, apps and food. I could not even get a check to leave that last time, in a timely manner. I complained to management and they don't care. NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Pros: Bathroom had toilet paper

Cons: Everything else

Hella cool staff, killer beer specials, huge & tasty pizza

by dininghedonist

I thought Stellar was just that - stellar. I've passed this eclectic Georgetown pizza joint every day on my way to work and thought it was time to give it a try. The menu looked pretty decent online and the funky decor caught my eye - so why not give this place a whirl? The wait and bar staff was extremely friendly, casual and attentive - and I dug their sense of style - which blended into the atmosphere perfectly. If piercings and tattoos offend you, however, you may want to find someplace else.... this isn't the place for you.

Our pizza came promptly - ariving piping hot and looking mouthwatering. We quickly devoured most of it - and we would have finished it, too ... if it hadn't been the size of a small planet. I ordered 2 different beers with my meal and didn't care for the second. They replaced it free of charge. Woo!

I'll definitely be back

Pros: Attentive & friendly staff, prompt and tasty pizza, good beer

Cons: my booth was kinda rocky

great neighborhood place - needs more parking

by ciel411

Great place to go for dinner. The staff is always congenial and funky. Great beer specials and tasty, big pizzas at a very fair price. A pizza and a whole caesar salad easily feeds four. Love the stubbies! Needs a little more parking as parking on the other side of the tracks is a little sketchy.

Pros: great atmosphere, fun neighborhood place, good food and beer specials

Cons: needs more parking and kids sometimes are OUT OF CONTROL!

Truly Stellar

by rustacarirulestheworld

I don't know where to begin...overflowing with character, flavor, atmosphere, really really good food, and exceptional pizza. All for very reasonable prices; and great for 2 to 20 or 30 people.

Pros: everything is a pro

Cons: when they're busy handcrafted pies can take 45 min

Best Pizza in Seattle

by judeo

It doesn't say much for the Citysearch Top 10 Pizza List that Stellar's didn't make the cut, while mediocre overhyped Euro-schlock like Via Tribunali did. You go to Stellar's to hang out with friends, appreciate the low-key environment, and eat Seattle's best calzone and pizza. The root beer on tap is a nice plus as is the local beer. I recommend the Georgetowner. Enjoy!

Pros: Low-key Service, Great Pizza, Best Calzone

Cons: Food wait times, Little expensive

great pizza, if you can wait

by hlywdsm

I love this place on it's good days, but not so impressed other times. The pizza can get really greasy and you litteraly have to sop it off with a towel. Other times it's near perfection. But one thing is consistant, the pizza takes a very long time to get! The place is so cool inside that it makes it a little more bearable. I would suggest eating in, but if you are just picking up a pie you could do a little better. The crust is thin, but could be thinner. The cheese and pepporoni quality is pretty good, but can get a little too greasy. Great PBR beer specials on Tuesday I think, something like a $1.00. Overall, I would say this is the 3rd best pizza in Seattle.

Pros: interior, pizza, beer specials

Cons: long waits, always, inconsistant

It's different to have a place that plays country and funk rock back to back. Tatoos and piercings are common. The clientele have a wide variety and all feel welcome. The food is great. I enjoy it every time I go.

Highly Recomended

by starrwolf

If you're looking for a fast, cheap pizza go to Domino's. If you want a fun evening with great pizza then come to Stellar. Yes, the staff can be absent minded but you feel welcome when you walk in and the Pizza and beer are always good. Or, if you can't drink beer they have a great root beer on tap plus other refreshments. Kids are welcome and there is room for larger groups. There is even a private dinning room if you have something special going on.

Pros: good pizza, friendly service, no cell phones

GREAT pizza and more!

by tracy8989

I have no idea why some people gave Stella's 2's and 3's. They are a 10 in my book. Wonderful pizza (the best I've had in Seattle), great beer selection. The service can be slow but I think they've gotten more attentive waitresses in recently. The only drawback is the too loud music on Saturdays.

Pros: Garlic pizza!, Great beer selection

Cons: Too loud on weekends, Parking an issue..

MMM..Beer and food

by Marked1

Stella has some kick ass beer and chow. I visited there last week and had the "Yellow Snow" beer from rouge as well as the "Lunar porter".. Man 2 great beers. To compliment the beers I had a wonderfully garlicky ceasar salad that was huge in size and ordered half of a Primo pizza, which I was suprised to find when I read the menu came with Coppa which you dont see on the west coast very much but is all over the east coast, my half pie came to my table in about 15 minutes and I knew by my first bite that this place served great pies the crust was perfectly golden and the sauce with the coppa was superb. Cool art on the walls, pool tables and great service. Thankyou Stella you are a great find.. I will tell all my friends and co-worker to stop in....

Pros: great pizza and beers, cool atmosphere, good artwork

Cons: crowded, no other locations

Great Jukebox, Horrible Service

by pizzalover101

The only thing i loved about this place is was jukebox. I came in there on a sunday night and ended up running over to the jukebox to get rid of some god awful music one of the female employees was playing. i used to love going over to industral coffee as well but, seems that place went down the tube as well. oh, and don't eat the sandwiches they're as plain as the staff that works there.

Pros: great jukebox, terrific pizza

Cons: too expensive, horrible parking, too crowded

Georgetown Gem

by clittle

This pizza & beer joint is a gem! Plenty of out-of-the mainstream beer taps - no budweiser here. The pizza is hand-tossed and made with LOVE. The atmosphere is casual-retro - lots of cool vintage neon and kids are welcome here. The coppa-colla pizza was awesome - the tattoed staff gives you plenty to look at while you sip beer and wait for your pizza to arrive. Check out the jukebox too -

Pros: atmoshpere, hand made food, good parking

Great Food Great Staff!

by divinemsr

Stella's not only has great food, great beer and a great staff it's also cool. The decor is very retro and you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in! Their ever changing art is a nice change from the same old restraunt decor you usaully see. The staff is friendly and fun. Go to Stella and get some great food from a woman who's been in Georgetown for over 14 years!

Over Rated

by irobot

The over-all experiance wouldn't have been that bad, if I hadn't paid an arm and a leg for mediocre food. For the price the service should have been a lot more attentive, and I should have gotten my food a lot quicker for the amount of people that were there. An hour is a long time to wait for pizza. Eh... at least the beer was cold-ish. I suggest just going to a 7-11, picking up a frozen entree, a six pac, and just staying home. You'd get more for your cash and be just as happy.

Pros: good juke-box, lots of parking, colorful?

Cons: over priced, lacks customer servic, food = cardboard
