Just moved back to Madison after 33 years wandering in the wilderness. One of my first joyful "to do's" was to buy a bike and once again enjoy this bike-friendly city. Received a recommendation from one of our new neighbors in Richmond Hill about his positive experiences at the Village Pedaler. I went there with my wife, met Mike, (the owner), who gave us his undivided attention for the next hour thoughtfully explaining the differences and advantages of one Trek versus another. We left there thoroughly satisfied with every aspect of our experience including a car rack personally fitted and installed by Mike, and a new Trek carefully mounted and secured for the trip home. We would both highly recommend the Village Pedaler in Monona.

Just purchased a new Trek at Village Pedaler. I did not have to go to the Trek Store and beg to have them match the price I paid at the Pedaler. I don't liker to patronize stores that do not offer their best price up front. And I did not get treated like an idiot like I did at the store recommended by one of the other reviewers. Both employees there were very nice but treated me like I knew nothing about bikes - I guess that's fine for those who have never ridden a bike since middle school... Anyway, I got great service and a low price (lower than Middleton Cycle or the Trek Store). Why not support the "little guy" when his prices are so competitive and the service on prior purchases have been great.

Today I went to the VP for the last time. Why go to a place where you feel like you're interrupting the workers (and I think one of the "workers" was the owner)?

With so many good, locally owned bike shops, there is no need to go here.

We were looking for two new bikes. One was at the Village Pedaler; however, the second was not available in the color we were looking for. We decided not to buy that evening in order to see if we could find the right bike in the right color.

The next day, we found the second bike in the right color at the Trek store. They price match, so they said they would call the Village Pedaler to see if they had the bike and for what price. The man at the store said the bike was not available. We called from our cell phone and the man said that of course they had it but would not tell someone from Trek. After an explaination that we still planned on getting the second bike there, but they didn't have the color we wanted for the second, they finally told Trek their price.

When we arrived to pick up the second bike at Village Pedaler, we were treated so rudely. They were talking about us where we could here them and wouldn't tell us about the warranty, information about the bike, nothing. Then, the put the bike on our bike rack backwards, and we started to lose it on the interstate.

I would tell anyone that is much better to pay an extra $20 than to be treated with such poor service!

The Village Pedaler is conveniently located on Monona Drive, approximately a mile north of the Beltline. I just bought a new commuter bike and also had another bike tuned-up for a reasonable price. They seem to be a bit more affordable than other Madison bike stores. The staff is very knowlegeable and will help you find the bike that works best for you. There were many varieties of bikes and accessories!
