My wife & I tried Filippo's at a friends recommendation & are glad we did! We read the reviews that said the service was bad but that was not our experience. We were seated immediately & our server did a great job.

We usually don't order appetizers but heard the Sicilian garlic bread was good & it was exceptional. The dinner came with soup (wonderful) & bread (good as well but since we had the garlic bread we took it home) & a salad (which was OK). My wife ordered the lasagna & I ordered the cannelloni. We shared our pastas & the lasagna was great & the cannelloni was one of the best I've ever eaten. We only ate half of the meals so we are looking forward to enjoying the rest of it later.

We saw lots of people ordering pizza & so we will be back to try that as well. Don't expect a fancy flashy atmosphere. It is just a simple, local place with incredible food for a reasonable price.

Service was so bad we walked out without ordering dinner. I had heard that the food was great there and to overlook the shabby, greasy '80s decor they have. (So I was expecting something like Caterina's - Great food. Great service. Icky decor.) We called to make reservation but were told that they were not needed. When we arrived the place was half empty but we were told to wait at the bar for a table. Hmmmm. They have a tiny bar with about seven chairs outside the kitchen hallway. We sat there forever without our presence even being acknowledged with an "I'll be with you shortly." or even eye contact. When the bartender sauntered over we were barked at with a loud, gruff "Did you want something!?!?" I tried explaining that we were waiting for a table for dinner and was going to ask for a bottle wine list to review while waiting, but before I could ask for the wine list the bartender cut me off with a loud exclamation of "HERE?!?!?" what ever that was suppose to mean and why did she have to SCREAM at us? (WTF?) My friend ordered a Martini and I asked what if any, imported or flavored sodas they carried. She *screamed* "JUST BLACK BEAR!!!" and acted like I was wasting her time. I even got the 'talk to the palm' hand in the air thrown at me in a dismissive manner. So I then ordered a Black Bear soda only to be told that you can only get soda served at the tables in the dining room!!!! (Huh?) Now I don't understand why I can only get Black Bear soda served at a table and not at the bar while we waited, so I questioned it. I was told that "This is a bar!" "Ya see this?" "It's a bar. Get it?" "A bar." and she waved her arm around wildly pointing to everything to indicate that this was a bar in case I was too stupid to notice. Then she told me she did not have any Black Bear soda at all. (Okaaaaay.) She then picked up the soda gun in the air and started waving it around back and forth like an insane person and said "Coke. 7-Up. Seltzer. That's it." So I said that since they had real Coke on the gun, I would just have that. THEN, she *screamed* they don't have Coke. Or 7-Up. Just Black Bear. (WHAT??) I pointed out that she just got done telling me there was Coke and 7-Up and I got the dismissive 'talk to the palm' hand in the air again thrown at me. I turned to my friend and said "She just told me that there was Coke and 7-Up, and now that does not exist, just like the Orange or Root Beer Black Bear soda doesn't exist anymore either - unless you are at a table. I suggested to my friend that we LEAVE. As I got up, a 13y/o who had been sitting alone at the end of the bar and texting the entire time on his cell phone, mumbled real loud "Lady you are the rudest person I've ever met." I was speechless and just stood there with my jaw dropped, and the bartender and the kid then did a 'High-Five' palm slap. (WTF?) The bartender said "You tell 'er" to the kid at the bar and then winked at a busboy standing near the hall and said "You know what I mean." and then said "You understand me." in a cryptic manner and repeated it again to him while grinning and he responded with a "Yeah, I know what you mean." I took that to mean that my food would get "messed with" by said busboy and NO WAY was I going to eat there. I have NEVER had anything like this happen to me anywhere. Ever. I eat out all the time. And tip well. Always. My friend excused the behavior as that the bartender probably thought I was being "cheap" be ordering soda even though I never drink before dinner, and no other place ever had a problem with it. I think Filippo's is probably a "family owned and run" place. (I got those vibes from the hostess indicated by her bored, vacuous stare when we walked in.) No use complaining to "management". This bartender probably has a job guaranteed for life there.

Finding a good neighborhood Italian restaurant that has great food, good service, and inexpensive prices is a rough one these days.

We've been to Filippo's before for lunch, but dinner was an all new experience. It was outstanding, among our best experiences so far this year.

We were a fairly large party (8) which is always challenging for waitstaff. The server, Mario (per the receipt), had another server tagging along, possibly training. He expertly described the specials, soup, etc., and took drink orders, leaving us for just about the right amount of time to ponder the menu. He had good advice regarding an appetizer of sicilian garlic bread, which we ordered with some reservations, but he turned out to be 100% correct, it was better than the cheese garlic bread we had also ordered (which was good in its own right, the sicilian was just *better*). Taking our orders, he was helpful and patient. Appetizers were announced a few minutes before arrival, and were served in reasonable time. Salads and soups, included with entrees, arrived at a reasonable pace, not rushing us, but not making us wait. A breadbasket with both toasted and untoasted soft break arrived. A refill on drinks appeared shortly before the entrees. Dinner arrived, and was beautiful.

One interesting point, with several children along, and Filippo's not offering any children's menus, we opted to place an order of mostaccioli with sausage and split it between two kids. It arrived, without asking, pre-split on two plates, and kind of raised eyebrows because it actually looked like two separate orders, the plates were both pretty loaded. We didn't say a word, just curious to find out if they had made a mistake when we checked on the bill, but it was correct. I was very impressed at the effort displayed.

As for the food, I ordered chicken cordon bleu, and they delivered what almost looked like a cannonball in gravy and mushrooms. It was ... huge. It was great. Definitely my best dinner in a month. On top of that, it was reasonably priced, only $13.45, which included salad, soup, bread, and a small bowl of pasta with sauce. Everyone else's dinners were less expensive.

Service, excellent. Food, excellent. Price, affordable. Five stars, no hesitation.

We had reservations for a service of 10. My son and his family are moving away and this was to be a special evening. Well, it was memorable. It was 45 minutes before someone took our order. Our beverages arived OK, but our bar order must have gotten lost. It took another 45 minutes to arrive. We were at our table for almost two hours before our food arrived. The food was good but some of our party complained the food was barely warm. The grandchildren had french fries with their order so we requested ketchup. The waitress never brought the ketchup so someone had to go to the kitchen and get it themselves. The food although good was expensive. I am a generous tipper. I would not have tipped at all. Yet the waitress's tip was added on the bill. The only time I endured worse service was at a Pizza Hut when our waitress quit and didn't turn in our order. If I recall we still got fed faster than at Filippos. I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone in any manner.

I read a review from soneone written late in January. It was an awful review. We already had plans to go to go to Fillipo's and so I was leary. We have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We had reservations for 9 people (4 children) at 6:00 P.M. We arrived at 5:00, expecting not to be seated. They went out of their way to set up tables right away. The food was as good as always. We had Sicilian Steak, veal piccata, lasagna and tortellini. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly. The veal was tender and the sauce was very good. The kids loved the chicken strips and fries as always. I paid attention to cleanliness and the serving of the food and I didn't see anything unusual. I will say that the service was a little slow. In defense of them, however, it was a busy Saturday night and they were very busy. We did not find the entrees to be out of line compared to other restaurants. If you are expecting to pay $ 5 to $10 for an entree then maybe an Appleby's or Perkins should be your choice. We will definitely be going back and still consider it our favorite Italian restaurant.

I have gone to filippos for a long time and I will never go there again!! The waiter that took care of our party of 4 was so rude right from the start! He rushed us with taking our order and was very loud when going around the table to see what everyone wanted. It was like he was having a bad day and passed it on to us. I asked to see the owner and a watress replyed by saying he is not a people person and does not like to handle complaints. I was so turned off I demanded to see a manager only to find out that they had no manager staffed but the owners son was there and never came out to appologize to us at our table. I went up to there cash register which is next to there kitchen only to find 2 little kids handling food without gloves and hair nets I was so grossed out the boy ran his hand against his nose it was so gross. after standing at the register for about 10 min looking into the kichen I gave up because noone even thought i existed so i went to my table left my money lay there for my dinner and left without leaving any tip. The only tip this restaurant needs is a class to learn how to treat there customers!!! Besides the bad service the prices are outrageously higher since the last time I went to eat there good luck finding a dish for for less than $12.00. Better bring your weeks paycheck or your doing the dishes at this place!! Thumbs down all the way next time Im going to Sofia's down the road!!!

We are long time lovers (more than 15 Years) of the Filippo's Special Pizza....but somewhere in December, we noticed a difference in the sauce which we thought was what made the pizza outstanding.

Please, go back to the old recipe.

The best pizza in town by far! Filippo knows how to make a great dough crust instead of a cracker crust. Very few pizzerias use the old world recipes that he has for so long. I have been going there since I was a little girl and even since I moved out of the area, it is a treat to bring my husband and friends down to have a great pizza

It is difficult to find a great tasting home made pizza. The wait can be long, but well worth it. Also, before ordering your soft drink know that they only carry black bear soda.

In addition to excellent pizza, I think Filippo's fish fry is about the best deal in Milwaukee.
With the option for pasta vs. fries, and the fish and garlic bread....just excellent!!

Keep up the great work!!

In my line of work I work with many pizzarias. This is number 1 in my book and I have had great pizza all over the US. They make a sicilian style pizza that you will not forget. It is different from the other great pizzas in the Milwaukee area. Writing this review is making me want to go there tonight!
