I went for an eye exam at the Capitol Drive location with Dr. Patterson. I found the receptionist to be rather rude; it should be noted that I was late, but had phoned ahead to let them know of it. I was told that as long as I arrived within a 10 minute window, I would be fine. Upon arrival 6 minutes late, I was brusquely informed that I was too late to be seen, and was only seen after another employee noted that they had told me that I could arrive up to 10 minutes late.

I found Dr. Patterson to be competent, but not very warm and welcoming at first. Granted, my appointment was late in the day, so perhaps she was just exhausted, as I was. She was thorough though, even rechecking my existing prescription on my glasses for herself to determine whether any errors had been made by her staff.

As the appointment wore on, the staff seemed to warm up, and were probably just upset with the fact that I was 6 minutes late. However, I phoned ahead by a half hour, and would have expected more respect and understanding. Service wise, I can't recommend this group, but if you're only going once a year there are probably worse places you could visit.

On two recent visits,I was very displeased w/ the customer service I received from the Receptionist at the Whitefish Bay Herslof's location. As I entered the facility she was on the telephone rolling her eyes to the back of her head as she spoke to a client, after the call, never acknowledging me she looked up widening her eyes like"YEAH" which immediately turned me off. Never saying more than 2-3 words she handed me forms and did a prescreen. extremely rude and uppity, tried to come off as intimidating, but to me she was extremely ignorant and unprofessional. On the next visit w/ my children, again short no HIPPA forms passed out, not thorough-my 10 yr old said she didn't trust her, my daughter stated that the receptionist/prescreener asked her was she here w/her folks.(Who did she think I was a Social Worker)our intake form clearly stated that i was her biological mother. My 15 year old said she mom she's prejudice. Although I never discredit anyone for lack of knowledge, I always try to be the better person, until my daughter asked where the restroom was an it was refer to as an outhouse by another receptionist. Now livid, I simply grabbed a notepad to document my experience to report their behavior. Observing that their tone and demeanor was different w/ their Caucasian clients. Hmm, Never once communicating to us when my 15 yr olds glasses would be ready, they let us sit until the service provider noticed we were still waiting over 10-20 extra minutes to tell me that my 15 yr old was already dialated and we were set to go. This is what I call a Back Door Experience (racially motivated)Working as an Medical Secretary and Executive Assistant to the President of a well know Hospital in Milwaukee, I know that people discriminate for many reason, including the type of insurance you have. I am a firm believer that you reap what you sow. This woman could not have had a bad day on both occassions! SO I am calling my insurance company, as well as the office manager to report this incident, and will take my tape recorder w/ me next time. Update: I called the office and Gina the person I described is the Office Manager (I spoke to her about this review)said 98% of her clients are Black, and that most people don't read the HIPPA form so there's only one placed at the desk for you view if you choose to read it (although they have you sign that you did to please OSHA regulations) that Jackie was feeling ill and wasn't herself, but Paul at 414-462-1300 is her Manager. With her attitude do I even feel the need to call him? Choose your battles wisely,I'll just inform the insurance company!Whatever happen to respect and value everyone? If you ever want to experience a Back Door "Welfare Clinic" Adventure-go to Herslof's in Whitefish Bay to meet Gina!

I went there on 11/26/08 for an exam and pick my glasses. It's 1/22/09 and I still haven't heard anything on when to pick up my glasses. I called and left a message, no one called me back. All the staff were nice and friendly but the waiting is too long. The frame on my glasses that I have now broke. I just super glue it together so it won't fall apart... just bearing with it. Wish they would call me and tell me why it's taking so long.

I went here because this is the only choice for opticians with the insurance plan from my work (my insurance pays 100%). The eye exam was routine, the doctor was nice and very competent but kind of serious -- no smiling, joking or chatting.

The choice of eyeglass frames is ok. Nothing special as far as I'm concerned. I picked the ones that I thought looked the least objectionable on me. What I'd really prefer is to pick the ones that look the best, but I didn't feel that they had that kind of selection available for me. Ah well, free is free...

On the plus side, the staff (other than the doc) are really cheerful, friendly and helpful. If they had a better selection of frames, I'd probably go back next year. As it is, I think I'll skip the insurance plan and save the money to pay for what I really want at a place that has better looking frames.
