I'm a huge fan of thin crust pizza, and there is no place I have eaten that serves thin crust pizza equal to Zaffiro's.\r

Granted, the atmosphere is not great,

Wasn't amazed by Zaffiro's pizza. I'm not a fan of thin crust pizza to begin with, and that seemed to be the only type on the menu...need a bigger selection. The service was okay, but def. not the bst.

We went to Zaffiro's for the first time last night (on a Sunday night) and had to wait almost an hour. It is so cramped in the place, hardly anywhere to stand. There was one waiter for the whole place and no on even acknowledged us for at least 10 minutes after we sat down. Had to wait for the hostess to bring us a highchair for our 2 year old (FYI- don't bring your kids, it's not a kid friendly place, no kids meals and they really seem to not even like kids there). When the food finally came, it was just ok. We went there because of the so called, "best pizza" in town, but it really wasn't that good. Please don't waste your time. My beloved Pizza Man is no longer around so we wanted to try this place but I would never go back. Oh.. and it was filthy. The floor was nasty and the place didn't look like it had been cleaned since the 50's.

Pros: nothing

Cons: Not kid friendly, terrible service, bad decor, bad food.

I love Zaffiro's...it has a great "dive" atmosphere that captures the nostalgia of old-school pizza joints. They make the thinnest crust pizza in town and it is perfectly spiced--I like a simple pizza like cheese & onion which is perfection at Zaffiro's. Their pasta is also good and comes in portions that are worth about three meals. Their red sauce is extremely thick and a little on the sweet side--I love it. Of all the Italian restaurants where I have tried lasagna, theirs is the best--heavy on the beef and sauce and light on the ricotta. It is true, many of the servers look like they will be profiled on Dog the Bounty Hunter, wear filthy aprons, openly sit down and smoke cigarettes during the service, but for me, they just kind of add to the charm of the place.

Pros: Best Pizza

Cons: Small, only one Location

Zaffiro's Pizza is the best pizza I have ever had. All of their entrees are delicious and the thin crust pizza is out of this world. Family friendly and reasonably priced! A great place to take visitors.

Zaffiro's is a place that looks like it has been around forever. Small inside, it is one of those places that continues to thrive because it offers a great product, a nice atmosphere, at an inexpensive price. However, be warned, it is definitely a casual/bar/old-style-restaurant atmosphere.

The specialty here is, without a doubt, their fantastic pizza. A cracker-thin crust loaded with quality toppings makes for a very enjoyable lunch experience. As with nearly anyplace on the east side, parking is a pain, but I do suggest that it is worth a try. Might be a bit hesitant to take a larger group.

I've heard of people traveling here just for this pizza - it's that good! Best thin crust I've ever had, hands down. Crispy, doesn't cut up your mouth. Good stuff.

Being born and raised in Milwaukee, I didn't really appreciate thin crust pizza until I lived in St. Louis, Los Angeles and now Seattle. Some of their pizzas are OK, but nothing like that Zaffiro crust! Dad and I are making another trip "home" this fall and Zaffiro's is one of the first stops! I would love to know how their perch fish fry is on Friday, but I know I couldn't get past the pizza.
Got a kick out of the sink in the bar between the two restrooms. At least everyone knows you washed your hands!

Cons: City parking

This is a small, quaint restuarant. The pizza is fabulous! They also have lasagna and sandwiches all for dining in or taking out. Prices are very reasonable. A place to check out!

I love this place, I would reccomend calling for reservations if they take them or ordering your pizza for pickup because if you go there on a Thursday or the weekend the wait is about an hour and the bar area is small so you are waiting in the bar with everyone else who is waiting for a table gets kind of crowded. ALSO if you are going for nice table linens and art on the wall this is not the place to be, very basic and thats fine because the pizza speaks volumes BEST PIZZA IN TOWN.

Based on the reviews here, I couldn't wait to get to this place. I was in Milwaukee for a week, and wanted to see the city's best. This can't be it. The pizza everyone raves about is some of the worst I've ever had. The crust tasted like a stale cracker. Absolutely a let down considering the accolades it's getting. I've had better pizza from the freezer case of a supermarket. What really ticked me off was that we were charged for soda refills. The glasses are small to begin with, and cost $1.60 apiece. Our waitress brought us refills (when she finally found the time to wait on us), not letting us know that refills aren't free, as is common in many places. When I got the bill, I was charged $9.60 for soda! I hate paying ten dollars for sodas for three people. The place is tiny, and loud. The rest of the food was average--nothing will dazzle you. Like the pizza, the food is standard overcooked Italian-American. There is some atmosphere, if you like the sparse "decor" of 1950's Italian immigrant house-turned restaurant theme. It's almost a dive bar with a room on the side where they serve food. The place has not improved since then, and neither has the pizza, I imagine. The waitresses haunt the place like jaded ghosts; totally uninterested, jaded, wishing they were somewhere else, secretly wondering what everyone sees in their fabled pizza. The place is loud, but if you could get there on a slow night, the experience would at least be that much better. The overcooked spaghetti had a very sweet red sauce that I thought was good, but since the pizza was inedible, I had to eat something. The lasagna was decent. I think that overall, the place is highly overrated, and frankly, a bit expensive for what you get. I was told later by a local that there's better pizza in town. Good luck!

You'd think calling up to place an order would not be like asking someone for the worst favor on earth. Get some better people to deal with your customers or soon you'll have none.
Will be going to Pizza Man tonight which has a better rating and much nicer people.

Mu aunt took me here while I was home on leave from the army, and the food was great. Went back there within 1 week, right before I left for Germany, the pizza is great and that waffer thin crust is outstanding. This will be the first place we will eat when we get back to Milwaukee. Hey folks keep up the outstanding work. The service was also great.

I used to live on the corner of Kane and Prospect. My wife and I would walk over the Zaffiro's and enjoy some pizza by ourselves or with friends. It is the place we often wish we could walk to again. One of those wondering little spots you grow to love that feel completely your own.

This is a family favorite, and I was fortunate enough to have finally dined there recently on a trip from California. The best pizza I've ever had! The service was great - they knew everyone in there! This is a must if you're in Milwaukee.

True the cracker-like crust is a bit interesting but the sauce has NO flavor. Tasted very much like jarred Prego. My wife and I have had pies all across America and now we are in Milwaukee and needless to say we will not be returning to Zaffiro's. Head to Pizza Man or Palermo's.

I have dined in and ordered out from Zafiro's on at least 5 different occaisions. The pizza is inconsistant at best. On 2 visits, the pizza was way overdone. Burnt crust, etc. Take out is very risky as on the last 2 trips I had cold pizza when I got home which is all of 6 blocks.

I have traveled far and wide and sampled Pizza's from New York to California - and I am telling you Zaffiro's is the undisputed best. It's like they put some kind of magical ingredient in the crust....no other explanation for how good their pizza is. But I must clarify - it is the best THIN crust. There are others for the more hearty variety.

My dad started taking me to Zaffiro's about 10 years ago, and I believe this is what ultimately led me to move to the East Side... It was destiny! No, seriously though; the pizza is pheonomenal, but the Ravioli and the Italian Beef Sandwiches (with peppers) are similarly spectacular. I spent a year tending bar across the way at Halliday's, so I had Zaffiro's at least once a week for that period of time. Try the Pizza... it's legendary thin crust!

Three reasons I dislike Zaffiro's.
1. Pizza is burnt and dry.
2. If you aren't a townie with a flanel and a pack of Winstons in your pocket, forget about getting reasonable service.
3. Waitresses are extremely rude, and offer virtually no hospitality.
Don't waste your time or money.

You guys hit it on the head! Those would be my top two picks (Zaffiro's & Ann's). In fact, it is difficult to even compare the two as they serve very different styles of pizza. Shame on anyone who voted Rocky Rococo's or Pizza Hut or even Ned's as no. 1 for that matter. They'd be better off getting in line at the buffet at Olive Garden than spreading their revolting opinions on this web site. Those people probably eat breadsticks with their pasta anyway and don't know a thing about how to serve pizza! Forza gl'ital-americani di Milwaukee e complimenti a voi per la vostra scelta!

Because of the other foods our friends and us go there quit often. The problem is alot of time the pizza just doesn't have a good tastey sauce. It's a nice place but they need something.

The best thin crust pizza in the city! But DO NOT forget about their pastas! They offer a wonderful mosticolli, meatball and Italian sausage pasta dish. Their wines are good and of great value. The ambience is warm and comfortable. Michael Zaffiro, behind the bar, owner, is an expert in the restaurant business, a hard worker and knows how to please customers. Mrs. Zaffiro (Michael's mother) is the cornerstone of the business and make a lot of the sauce herself. The place has been around for almost 50 years. This kind of quality and character isn't bought outright, it's earned. And Zaffiro's has accomplished this. Bravo! Delicioso!

As a Milwaukee ex-pat living in Minneapolis, I start to miss the culinary diversity that my hometown provides. Even in pizza, styles change, as do the flavors and toppings. Zaffiro's is my favorite. The gingham tablecloths, the awesome pizza, and the nice staff really make everything enjoyable and classic Milwaukee.
