Wonderful downtown location. Beer garden open until dusk. Prices are are as reasonable as they are everywhere else downtown.

I love this place, just like I love all German bars. Fun atmosphere, German beers on tap, large selection of German food. Service is pretty good (and all wearing German outfits), and the selection is pretty good too.

From the Franziskaner wheat, to Dab, to the Spaten beers, it's always a delight to get a taste of great German brews.

For a truly great selection of fine German beers on tap, there can't be too many places in the U.S. that can top the Essen Haus. Combine that with their attempts to replicate an old German beer hall through the selection of food and the

Didn't try the food, but a friend did, and what he had looked awesome! Can't wait to get back to Madison.

This place is really cool. An incredible selection of German beers, both on draught, and in bottles. Service is great, and the patrons and decor add to make a stellar atmosphere

Worth the stop when in Madison. Located near the main drag. HWY 151 to the left. Authentic German all the way; atmosphere, uniforms, beer, food. The soft pretzels start it off just right. Alot of beer to choose from. This is a nice place

The staff is very friendly and adorable in the lederhosen & dirndle dresses. The live music is fun to dance to & be silly. My face hurts from smiling so much. The bands seem to be having just as much fun as the audience!\r

The Essen Haus is a great place to enjoy a boot of beer! It is always a good time to go with friends. We sit around in a circle and pass the boot around until it is gone...it becomes quite the game!

I arrived at 3:30 hoping to avoid the rush. I did.

The restaurant was grungy and smelled bad. The glass ware was grungy as well.

The Hacker Pschorr Edelhell bier was good. It came with a warm pretzel. I didn't expect that. It was good as was the dipping sauce. The Riesling served with dinner was ok as well.

The soup served with the pretzel had way too much pepper.

I asked that my Rouladen be served with the gravy on the side. The waiter assured me that would be no problem as that was how it was served. Of course it came smothered in brown, cornstarchy stuff. I was able to rescue the Rouladen from it brown bog. It wasn't too bad--a bit gristly.

The glop er, um, filling for the apple strudel was from a can.

This was a favorite spot my ex & I would visit for Friday Fish Frys. I really enjoyed them. The price is $10 for all you can eat - and it's actually high quality fish...not that frozen fish stuff like Applebees serves. Dinner also comes with bread, salad, and incredibly tasty french fries. The Entertainment book has buy one get one free deals too.
