I've enjoyed Soup Otzie's approximately 10 times. Each time taking someone new to enjoy the delicious soup and Panini. After several visits I decided to write down what I tasted and those I ordered. Here's my list since February 2009, Hungarian Mushroom, Green Bean Parmesan, Old Fashioned Chicken w/noodles and also served with dumplings, Shrimp Bisque, Mushroom Bisque, Tomato Basil. What makes it extra special is that your allowed samples, so you can decide by actual taste - not what you think it might taste like. Of course then the problem can be - you try two or three different soups and like them all - just pick one and start your own list of your favorites or those you want to have next time you come in. All of the above were very very good. My two favorites I have to say of all time soups(I love soup) are the Tomato Basil and the Green Bean Parmesan. The soup is what brings me there - the great tasting soup and Panini's and friendly service keeps me going back. It is a small place - but I think that makes it extra special.

I've gone there a few times once pretty close to close around 5 and I could tell that they weren't happy i came in (there was no one else there) the girl serving me seemed fake like she was putting on a act. I waited about 5 minutes till she had even come over to me I ordered the ruben and chicken noodle the ruben was good but the soup was very brothy no vegetables in it and not alot of noodles. i went up to the counter for some water after already asking for it but she never came back and then seemed very rude that i had got up to ask for it.I decided to try it again but in the afternoon. the same waitress was there but the taller lady helped me. after ordering there chicken enchilada soup and the portabella sandwich i observed the restaurant seemed clean, but watching the staff eat where food was prepared did not appeal to me. and then the most horrible thing came the waitress that had helped me the time before her butt crack was hanging out that was horrible and shes not a little person at all i waited a Little longer for my food and forgot about her crack i started eating and she walked passed me again with the butt crack I wanted to say something but i didn't want to embarrass her. the food was good so i went back but ordered to go. cream of potato and a tomato and Cheddar paninni after paying the same waitress still had her butt crack hanging out, DISGUSTING... i went back to work started heating my soup and found hair in it I called and the person who answered the phone said they would not exchange the soup or refund it because it could have been my hair not there's, too many bad things in only three visits

I go to Soup Oties frequently and in response to the previous review, I think the service is awesome. Very prompt (all the soup is already done - all they have to do is pour it and bring it out) and friendly. They are GREAT about letting you sample soups before ordering. They always have 1 if not 2 vegetarian options, and usually have some pretty interesting varieties (Spicy Peanut Vegetable, Zucchini-Jack, Thai Chicken Noodle, Cream of Sweet Potato etc.). Their bread is AWESOME (sour dough, wheat or french) and the prices are reasonable. A bowl of soup with a mini-loaf of bread is in the $5 range and you'll be stuffed all day. In the $3 range you can get a cup and a smaller piece of bread which is also more than enough for lunch.
I think it's GREAT that they serve Black Bear sodas. I think it's very appropriate for the trend in local sustainability, and appropriate to support another WI business. We all benefit from it and it's great soda. The root beer in particular is very good.
If I had anything to complain about it would be that around noon there's not always enough seating if you have 2 or more in your party.

Soup Otzie's has the best soup in Milwaukee. They have a wide variety of soups, with 6 different soups each day. In addition to their soups, they have a variety of sandwiches, that are also very good. The do have a poor selection of soda's. Currently, they serve a local brand of soda, which I myself do not like. I would prefer a name brand soda (e.g. Coke, Pepsi) with my meal.

Other than that, I would definitely recommend them!!!

Our family members are Soup Otzies regulars. You can always find something that you like there. They usually have six soups from which to choose (unless they run out of a fan favorite, which is often, so try to go early). They have a monthly menu which you can pick up for free and go on the days that interest you most. You can always get a sample of any or all of the soups they have (and that's free too). Granted, it's small (an old George Webb), but if you are at work and need lunch, you can always get your order "to go." It's always clean there and the staff is always helpful and pleasant--no matter how busy they are. They even sell frozen soups for those days when you want a Soup Otzies fix and are at home with a cold or something, which is nice. Please do give them a try. ALWAYS excellent stuff! And reasonable, too!

I love soup, and I love the variety they have here. Also, the fact that you can have a little sample of the ones that interest you is very helpful to me. Some favorites are reuben, and the potatoe that is on daily is great!

I eat here all the time. They have amazing soups and all different varieties. My favorite is a Thai Chicken soup. They also have really good paninis. My favorite is the portebella mushroom. I actually have friends that come visit me from almost an hour away just so I can take them there! Infact we are going there right now.... lucky me!

A big bowl of 16oz of soup and a loaf of bread for $5! Where can you go and get homemade soup and you always have 6 to choose from. They even give you free samples of any or all that you would like to try. We go 3-4 times a week for lunch!

PROS: 6 Homemade Soups to Choose From!
CONS: Small and sometimes you have to wait for a table

The SOUP OTZIE is a small pleasant restaurant on Howell Ave just South of Howard Ave. It was clean and the waitress was nice and quick to serve.
They offer daily soup choices as well as daily specials. They also offer frozen soups.
My order was chicken dumpling and came with my choice of a roll. The soup was hot but I thought more vegetables would have been nice and also a little more seasoning. It was just ok. We also had a cream of mushroom soup served with bread. My husband thought it was good but I thought it was just dreadful.
I don't think we will return.

PROS: nice variety of soup
CONS: It was just okay, not great
