I had a horrible experience at Portage Tire. First, when I made the appointment I told them that I only needed 2 tires replaced. When I got there they just took my keys without saying anything to me. When the car was done they charged me and put on all 4 tires. I said no the back 2 tires were perfectly fine. They played stupid. They ended up taking the 2 tires that I didn't need off and put my old ones back on after giving me an attitude about it. They were such in a hurry they broke one of my tire pressure monitoring sensors. They said I would have to bring it back in again when the part came in which was a horrible inconvience to me. Than when I took it in to get fixed they told me I would have to come back yet again because there is only 1 guy who knows how to reset the tire pressure monitoring system. They told me this guy was there all the time and I could just stop in when I had time and he could do it really quick as it only took 5 minutes. I took it in on a Saturday and they told me that he doesn't work weekends and I would have to come back during the week. I than stopped there on a Friday afternoon and they said he had already left for the day and would be there tomorrow...even though I was told once before he didn't work on Saturdays. I took it in that Saturday and this guy (Jeremy) refused to fix it and pushed it off onto another guy who said he had no idea how to do it. The receptionist is rude as can be and still today my car is not fully fixed and it has been weeks. Please if you are considering going to Portage tire reconsider and try somewhere different.

Portage Tire is great! I purchased tires from them and had work done on my truck at the same time. I had unexpected issues with the repairs of my truck. Chris, who worked on my truck was very efficient and took the time to explain the problem to me and what needed to be done. The problem was taken care of right away and I even got my tires on at the same time! Kudos to Portage Tire! Great bunch!

My husband and I have had difficulties with this place. We kept getting the run around from Jeremy about when our vehicles would be completed. When I very first started having my vehicles serviced by Portage Tire we received good quality, friendly service but over time the quality of the work and the customer service has gone down hill. Not sure if it's due to overbooking customers or if it's inexperienced help but this service place has definitely changed and not for the better.

I went to Portage Tire to purchase 4 tires plus mounting and balancing.
The tiers are excellent.
the installation and service I received horrible!
After having my new tiers installed I started home. As I drove down the road and changed lanes my Jeep seemed to handle a little different to me. I tried to convince myself that this was due to the fact that the tires where new, they had a higher profile, and I just wasn't used to the "feel" of them yet. So I decided I would run up on to the interstate and take the Jeep up to speed 60-70 miles an hour and see how it handled.
When a nice young lady pulled up next to me and yelled out her car window Hey you know your back tire's about to fall off?!
So I pulled off the road and sure enough a quick check of the tires found that the back passenger side tires lug nuts weren't even finger tight!
I immediately called Portage Tire and talked with Jeremy the man who had set up my appointment and explained to him what had happened and where I was.. he said someone would be right there to take care of it and a few minutes later a young man in a pickup truck showed up introduced himself as Bob from Portage tire and asked me "what's up?"
I showed him the back tire and he nonchalantly grabbed a tire iron out of the truck and proceeded to tighten up the lug nuts. as if this was a daily occurrence for him.
After he was done tightening up the lug nuts he was like "there you go"
and was ready to get on his way..
Needless to say I was a little irate and asked "that's it?"
I mean I at least expected an apology if not an offer to come back to the shop to make sure there was no damage to the lugs and to make sure everything else was okay. but no, that was it.. not even a "have a nice day"

On the way home I got to thinking about my plan to get on the interstate and take the Jeep up to speed. Of course the thought of losing a tire off a SUV at highway speed isn't a very appealing idea.
So when I reached home I called Portage tire and asked to speak with Jeremy.
I told him of my displeasure with the service I had received and asked if there was anything he was willing to do to compensate me for .. oh gee I don't know.. possibly... almost killing me!?!?!!

He agreed that the work was not acceptable but said there was nothing he could do as he was only part owner.. so he would leave a message for the owner Deb and have her give me a call.

I waited a week and no call.. so the next Friday I called back.. needless to say this was the beginning of better than a month of playing phone tag with Portage Tire tying to get a hold of the owner.
When I did finally get a hold of the owner Deb four (4) weeks later, again there seemed to be a complete apathy to my situation. "oh yeah sorry about that. was gonna call ya." again kind of like it was an everyday occurrence and I should just dismiss it.
By now I was very frustrated, and mentioned to the owner that I would be getting in touch with the Better Business Bureau.
She then mentioned that she was going to offer me a free tire rotation {like I'd even let them touch my vehicle again}
But apparently because of my frustration, and the fact that I was standing up for myself
I had "put the kibosh on that"

Now because of my frustration I did contact the BBB..
BUT because of the nonchalant way that EVERYONE at Portage Tire dealt with my issues, I felt it necessary to post this here!

The tires:
great buy

The work:
If your brave enough to have these people work on your vehicle PLEASE check the work before you leave!

As for me:
I will NEVER set foot in Portage Tire again, I would not recommend them, and if you have ever had work done there, please double check it, or have it check by a professional!!

Suggestion for Portage Tire:
be nicer to your customers
don't dismiss life threatening mistakes you've made as run of the day practice

Portage Tire is the best! They've done our last 2 sets of tires on all of our vehicles, plus help my husband and son with the tire mountings needed for their stock car. Always friendly and ready to help, the guys here are great to work with!
