This is a good place to eat. We always get our CUSA passes here which is awesome! The overall restaurant is really cool. I would recommend this place to other people, and have before. That's just from my experiences, everyone has different experiences though :)

I dined at the Mineshaft on Memorial Day. The waitress was not friendly. I ordered a BLT which was awful, I could have made one like that at home. There wasn't any mayo on it, it was so dry I don't think there was even any butter on the toaste. I am not a big eater and a very slow drinker. I ordered a soda and barely drank any of it. I asked for the other half of my sandwich to be boxed up and also a to go cup for my soda. The waitress said they don't do "to go" cups. I paid for that whole soda and wanted to take it with me, it was my first soda, not even a refill. Luckily my grand-daughter had a cup with a lid on it from her chocolate milk so I poured my soda into that cup, as I was doing this the waitress asked if she could have my plate....seriously....she couldn't wait two minutes until we were gone. I had to stop pouring my soda into the "to go" cup and hand her my plate. I'll probably go back next year only to get my Country USA coupons. Although you still have to buy something to get the coupons, maybe I'll just get a soda to go. lol.

We stop at the Mineshaft for breakfast often on our way upnorth. There are a couple waitresses who probably should not be waitresss, but that happens everywhere. The food is adequate, certainly not superior....however, it fits the saying "you get what you pay for". If you are looking for top quality dining you go to a 5 star restaurant. This is a working class people type restaurant and they do a good job for the type of restaurant it is. Heck where can you find a fish fry for $4.99? You go to this restaurant for the price and enjoy the food accordingly. When we want a finer meal we go to a finer restaurant and pay much more $$$.

Ok, with bad reviews outpacing good by at least 2:1, you might wonder whether people don't bother to review when they love a restaurant, but go out of their way to slam it when they don't. Then again...\r

Waitress was good but asked to speak to a manager about the food. Basically- chicken breast on my salad was to dry and hard to eat. It was something close to chicken jerky. It was obviously a cooked chicken breast that they put back on the grill to heat up. I have had this problem consitantly when eating there. Manager offered no apologies just that she always orders that and she has no problem with and no one else have ever complained. She never ever said I will speak to the cooking staff about. She did however tell me maybe I should order something else or change the way i eat. (Sounds to me like she was telling me that I made this up and she was going to do nothing about it.) Certainly not the way to conduct business in my opinion.

Wow - after reading some of these reviews, I was hesitant to drive the 45 mins from Waukesha to the Mineshaft, but am I glad we did!
I made reservations for 3 for 7p on Wednesday 9/29. We showed up right at 7p, were seated immediately (despite a full waiting area), and it got better from there. Our server Tanner showed up within 4 minutes to get our drink order. We knew we were all getting the $4.99 fish fry, so we ordered the drinks, an order of mozzerella sticks and the fish right away. The mozzerella sticks were served within 8-10 minutes, and our first plates of fish hit the table at 7:21. The fish and french fries were almost too hot to eat, and were crispy and delicious. I even ate most of my cole slaw, which is a rarity for me. Tanner checked on us often, refilled our drinks often, and our subsequent plates of fish were served quickly and were just as hot as the first. No need to ask for more tartar sauce either, as each plate had an extra slice of lemon and cup of tartar sauce.
We were stuffed "to the gills" after three plates of about 5 pieces each, finished our drinks and were off to the game room by 8p. No rushing involved, just good, efficient service.
Our tab totaled $30 for the three of us ($5.99 for the mozz sticks and $2.50 for bottomless sodas), and after a well-deserved $7 tip, that was one of the best sit-down meals I've had for the price.
Service = A
Food Quality = A
Atmosphere = A
Game Room = B (just not a big fan myself, but the kids loved it)

Overall = A
Thanks to the Mineshaft for a great dinner, and thanks to Tanner for great service - we WILL be back!

I've been to the Mineshaft many times, for their fish fry as well as dinners with friends and have yet to have a bad experience. The food is delicious, the prices are reasonable and the service is friendly and fast. The only drawback is that it is so popular, you have to come early or you'll have to wait awhile to be seated.

i have only been to this place once. It was so neat when we went in. Then my friend ordered a glass of beer and it was disgusting. it was flat and tasted like dirt. a girl from the bar brought her a new beer, and when she told the waitress about the beer (across the bar from us) we saw the waitress roll her eyes at us. Also, not more than 3 hours after eating there, I was sick. Food poisoning. I will not return. I literally cannot even stomach it. sorry.

I went to a fish fry on 9/3/10 around 5pm with my parents and aunt. The waitress never brought my soup that I ordered, until I reminded her a second time. The food took about 30 minutes from the time the order was taken. We paid for the "refillable" soda that was never refilled. And the final straw was the server brought my father a glass of beer that had a crack running down the side. He cut his hand. No apology.

So let start with I work at the mineshaft! Its a horrible place to work but these ppl on here complaining about bad service should go to mcdonalds. When ur in a resctaurant that seat 15000 ppl a night u rnt going to get the best service in the world from any person or any restaurant! The food may be bad to u but why is it that the business is still running? Oh I know because u have bad taste! The food is delicious! So if u want to talk to me in person ask for tony to be ur server! Ill give u what u want!

I have read many of the reviews and I can't believe most of them. What do people want? Do they all think they are Hollywood elite and should be treated as such? I have eaten at the Mineshaft for breakfast and lunch many times. I have always had great food and service. I had their pizza once or twice...very good! The establishment has a lot to offer. No, it's not Spago; it isn't supposed to be.

Huhhhhhh.......I'd give this crap hole a ZERO if it were an option....... I really don't know where to start. This place is is advertised as a Mecca for "awesome food and fun." Are you crazy?! I don't know why I went back 2 more times! Because of the Shaft, I hate bacon! Yes, I lost my appetite for bacon! That's not even American of me to say but it's true. I had breakfast there and it was disgusting! The bacon had to have been from 1965, i could have retreaded a tire with it. On another occasion, I had a chicken burrito. Geeez, it was so absolutely disgusting, I didn't even finish half of it. When I told the ditsy waitress, she said "Sorry to hear that" and left us the bill! WHAT?!

The supposedly awesome fish fry fridays? Awesome? No, AWFUL! My God, I should've known when the price advertised was only $4.99! VandeKamps fish sticks were better! The food here tastes like poop and they charge you for it. Also, beware the dreaded soda refill! They will take you glass (if they bother to notice you need a refill) and then charge you for it! It's not free at all! What kinda schister business would do that?

This place is a true slop house and I regret ever spending money there. Not to mention they #$* our pizza's up once and we had to come all the way back for new ones! What a garbage dump of a business! That goes for the Fox and Hounds too! Same crappy owners and same fish fry but $5 more!!!!! YUK!!!!

We went to the Mineshaft in Hartford for a drink at 9:15 p.m. on a Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010,. We sat ourselves near the bar area. Not one waitress acknowledge that we were even there! My husband finally went to the bar and ordered us drinks. It was served IN PLASTIC CUPS! There were plenty of clean glasses around the bar that could have been used. Besides the fact that the drink tasted like water, I felt like I was being treated like a kid on a picnic. We gulped the drinks and got the "heck out of dodge"! Never to return again. Sadly because we have 6 children that would love to go there...

We sat in a non-smoking section and left smelling awful. Food was so so and service sucked. My husband wanted a re-fill on his soda after we got our food but the waitress ran off not to be seen again until we flagged her down just to get our check because we just wanted to leave. Maybe they should just do a buffet and skip the wait staff; when we have to walk up to the bar and order a soda in the middle of the meal, you just don't feel like you got service.

I am writing this review because I feel that for many of us great service is something we just take for granted but rarely talk about. On Saturday January 2, 2010 our group decided to get together at the Mineshaft in Hartford. From the moment we arrived to the time we departed we experienced nothing but first class service from Jason our bartender. It is not often that any style of service industry comes with such care and class as which this young man treated us with. We truly injoyed our complete experience and look forward to going back soon. Jason we commend you and you are truly an asset for the entire Mineshaft organization.

Bad Brunch Experience
Well, I wish i would have read all these comments before going there on Sunday 11/8/09. I would have saved me and my family a trip to a BAD experience. My husband and I decided to take my sister, son and friend out to brunch. Thinking of a nice place to go, since we had been there many years ago we decided to go to the Mineshaft. Walking up to the hostess desk was our first terrible experience, she was very rude. We asked if our son had arrived and she told us that they dont sit people until all were there. OK, but when we asked if we could go into the restaurant to look, she told us NO, so we went anyway...what was that all about? Then she never asked us for our name so when our son came and we asked to be seated she told us it would be 15 minutes (tons of empty tables) now i was upset. So we waited and then they sat us in a booth. Now my husband is a rather large man and i told them we needed a table, they told us that they did not have one, empty table all around us. Ok, they pulled up a chair and sat him on the end. About 15 minutes later they sat a large party of people right next to us and they were so loud that we couldnt even hear ourselves talk and all my husband could hear was the commotion directly behind him. OK now the food, It was good, but cold. Now i usually do not mind room temperature food but i am telling you that everything from the eggs to the chicken was just plain COLD. So from all that we wont be going back to the Mineshaft again and will NOT have anything good to say about it in the future to others.

"You live in Hartford? You must go to the Mineshaft all the time!" Wrong! The Mineshaft in Hartford packs a bar, dance floor, restaurant and arcade into one building. Instead of doing one thing well, it does a bunch of things poorly. I live in Hartford and I've had too many bad experiences to waste money there. There is always a wait at dinner and service is slow. Dinner specials like the fish fry or steak are cheap and plentiful but flavorless. Other entrees are overpriced and average in taste. You will always leave the place reeking of smoke. If you forgo the restaurant aspect of the Mineshaft you are left with a typical bar and dance club. Drinks that aren't a special are outrageous ($5 for a Coke on Friday karaoke night). It is a shame that Hartford is so well known for the Mineshaft when you can get better pizza at Poad's or an awesome fish fry at the VFW.

This place has the worst service and food in any place I have ever visited. The hostess / manager would not allow my elderly grandparents to join our table for a birthday celebration so we have to give up our seats to allow them to sit down. When the staff saw what we did they would not serve them. The place smells like smoke and just wait till you get home and the poor quality food sets in! Its too bad the residents of Hartford have no options to dine. I feel if they did Mineshaft would be no more.

My family has been going to the Mineshaft Bar and Restaurant for many years now to celebrate the birthday of my nephew (now 5). In contrast to experiences in the past years, we received the worst customer service I have ever experienced on January 11, 2009. We were immediately told that there would be no refills on the soda. We obliged by then ordering pitchers. When we attempted to order with separate checks for each of the families that attended, we were told that because we were a group of 8, they would not separate the checks. When I asked the reason for this, the waitress simply stated it was restaurant policy. I then asked to speak to a manager and was escorted to the front check-in table. After waiting a bit, I was greeted by the owner who asked what my concern was. When I mentioned I was concerned with the poor customer service, she replied, well we seated you, what is the problem. When I asked the reason we could not have the checks split, she said that with all of the families that attended the restaurant, they simply did not have the time to deal with figuring out how to divide the bill.I countered by sharing that with the game room as part of the establishment, her business catered to many families such as my own. Her short reply was that this was the policy and there would be no way around it. When I mentioned that this then would be the last time we would come to her establishment, she didn't seem to care at all. Her responses were short and rather rude.I returned to the table, discussed the situation with my family, paid for the pitchers of soda and left without eating. We will never be back.

While on Tour, our entire cast went to the mineshaft after a performance in Hartford. Though the food tasted fine, five of us came down with food poisioning. After one week, three of us are still experiencing severe problems. The food we all shared in common was the Cream Cheese Jalapenos. Pretty sure that this caused the problems. WATCH YOUR A@@ IN THIS PLACE!!!!!

My husband and I came across the Mineshaft restaurant by accident, as we were traveling from Janesville to Richfield, and were pleasantly surprised at what we'd found. We were just in time for the last hour of the Sunday brunch, which end around 2:00pm. We felt that $8.99 was pretty reasonable considering the huge amount of salads, en trees and deserts to choose from. We were blown away by the size of the place which looks to have been at least four former downtown two-story buildings. We loved the "mineshaft" decor; the dark, rough-hew beams and walls and the low-lighting all work well together; that combined with the shear size of it really lend to the feel of being in a mineshaft. Our total experience was great and we enjoyed checking out the massive game room, everyone was having a great time. I would definitely come back and bring family and friends. Our visit was on a Sunday afternoon which I'm sure was less frantic then earlier in the weekend so the service was great and we were very pleased with the food choices in the brunch!!!

Went to the Mineshaft for my youngest son's birthday so he could use his tokens and giftcard in the gameroom. Due to a snowstorm, the gameroom was closed. We asked to get a raincheck on the token offer and the waitress and manager declined...bad business management. Food is VERY average at best for high price. Good restaurant and layout but no one to manage, cook or service.

Came 12 miles to hopefully have an off-the-menu breakfast, only to find out only buffet breakfasts are served on Sunday. After having lost 15 lbs, I really was not interested in eating most of the items on the buffet. The food which was supposed to be hot was cold. The restaurant was cold. We ate the little bit that appealed to us and got out ASAP. Had always been a fan of the Mineshaft in the past but doubt that we'll be back.

I love to go there on Fridays when they are having there karaoke nights. You also get deals on drinks that night! There food was awesome and even when your in your 20's its fun to go up on the second floor and play games! I like the environment and I also like the decor inside. Parking is a bit tricky though. Overall good prices and a lot of fun.

We've been to the mine shaft for their famous friday night fishfry and for their Sunday brunch - both are unbelieveable. Whether it's the fish fry, poor man's lobster or a wrap...our fare has always been excellent.

Only exception to the excellent dining room service we've always received are the bartender's who sometimes prefer to chat with patron's more than serve (no fun especially when you're waiting for a dinner table).

I went the Mineshaft with my extended family 12 in all. I was told that the food was great and I would not be disappointed. Most everyone ordered a special. The only thing special was the food was poor at best. I seriously have had gas station food that was better. Over spiced with the same spice used in the main and the 2 sides. I ended up eating some of my fathers ribs that were OK. No one finished all of their specials and no one wanted to take any home as a doggy bag either. My brother made a comment that something must have changed because they USED to have good food. I would have told the waitress about my displeasure but she never even asked how anything was. Another annoying item is the other waitstaff kept pushing my 75 year old fathers chair because the aisle was to narrow for 2 employees to pass at once. It was unfortunate that my very thin father sat on the very narrow aisle with with rude waitstaff. My kids loved the game room. The only way we will be back is if something changes.

When the hostess seated us, she took away our 2 yr. old's silverware and napkin, and although we asked our waitress to return it, my husband eventually had to go find a fork for her himself. The Alfredo sauce was from a can or jar, and the veggies with the Alfredo were the same veggies they use in their stir-fry (including water chestnuts?!? "fusion" and sauce from a jar don't mix!). The fajitas were more interesting, but did not come with the promised "Pico de Gallo and sour cream" until we asked the waitress to bring it; and then she acted like she was doing us a favor. I'd like to be able to tell you about the chicken, but when we tried to order it we were informed that we could not use our coupon because the chicken was on special. We explained that we didn't want the special - that we were ordering the chicken off the regular menu, but 2 managers later the only answer we got was that we should write a letter to the owner! Thank goodness we had that coupon, or we would have paid way too much for an awful experience!

We had planned on taking out of town company to the Mineshaft a couple of weeks ago. I am so glad that our plans fell through! We were also planning on taking friends from Milwaukee for the Sunday brunch. No need to drag decent people on that long drive for bad food and service!

PROS: rough hewn wood
CONS: food, service, and huge smoky areas on the way to non-smoking

I would like to take a moment and let the management of The Mineshaft in Hartford WI know how dis-satisified I am with my recent visit to your restaraunt. Last week we (my family) stopped in to have our dinner and to say the least the entire experience was appalling. When we arived we were told that the wait would be about 25 minutes... which ended to be 50 minutes. While waiting we went up to the game room to find the overpriced games not working, the ones we wanted to play were out of order. So to the dinner table... Our waitress (Shiela) was very condescending and rude, my daughter even asked me if she was mad at us. The meal was 'so so' at best. I feel it neccessary to let the management know when improvment is needed, I attempted to call 3 times, but the owner and manager were not available.

PROS: They have menus
CONS: The wait and hostess staff

Had reservations for three at this restaurant's Easter Sunday Brunch. We were told of a 20-30 minute delay that turned out to be 58 minutes in the combined smoky bar/waiting area. With cane and bad leg & back, I would have left if they would have been honest with their timeline. Felt worse for several elderly people also given the long wait. Smoke-free reservation were made, but in spite of questioning hostess, we were seated near smoky bar area which added to dreadful experience. Also seated next to garbage bin with bus staff banging plates on before banging plates together which added a ridiculous level of noise to the already noisy acoustics of this establishment. Food was mediocre-to-poor. Service area as cramped and crowded as the rest of the place. Waitress dismissed my concerns as standard operationg procedure for this establishment. Smoky, crowded, dishonest timeline, mediocre food, poor bus staff, poor service area all appear to be the result of simple greed created by their policy of overbooking---repeat overbooking. This restaurant advertises itself as "the largest" in the state and appears to value volume/quantity over any decent level of creating a quality dining experience. Hope the bad karma this creates for many once-and-then-never-again customers comes back to eventually enlighten them.

Crust was burned, sauce nonexistant. Pizza tasted like cardboard. At least the nacho chips were okay. Spaghetti sauced canned so also not very good. Some sort of funky tasting herb in the meatballs. Resembled grass. Cost of drinks too much. The ambience sucked - loud kids everywhere and we were unable to hold a conversation. The smoke drifted into the nonsmoking section. Service was slow - over an hour for a plate of spaghetti and yucky pizza. Will NEVER return or recommend this restaurant. Very disappointed as it came highly recommended.

The mineshaft is a great place for the entire family or when going out at night with friends. The waitstaff is friendly and quick. The food is great quaility for a great price and they even offer discounts on meal and game token deals if you reserve in advance. Although, no reservation is needed for non-discounted meals. I took my 5 yearold twins and we had a blast playing in their game room, and I felt secure that my children weren't going to be taken by a stranger. Also, I've been there with friends from out of town and we all thought that it was great that sometimes they have live music! There is alot of games for adults too! Such as, interactive extreme bowling and roller coaster ride. I would reccomend this place to anyone.
