I'm sure with any gym like this there's bad and good - it's probably unrealistic to expect otherwise. We're a family that's loved it. The classes have done wonders for my child's self-confidence. The coaches we've encountered are wonderful and I also think the cost is quite reasonable.

If you have a young child that has a short attention span, has special needs or needs a direction repeated more than one time, go somewhere else. Young children are that, young, the coaches don't seem to understand that young children need positive reinforcement, patience, and understanding. Was very disappointed in Scamps, although the front desk told me that they would work with me to make me happy, that sentiment didn't echo upstairs in the pre-school gym.

The comments in the negative reviews point to very personal individual issues as opposed to a real analysis of the gym. Scamps offers rec classes for those who just want to learn and grow as well as team for the competitive kids. I have 3 kids there - one on team and two in rec classes. There is no way the coaches would want a hurt child to be re-injured. There are not kids crying all of the time. My oldest has had her morale continually boosted by multiple coaches. Her coach has fostered a real team atmosphere - the girls all cheer for each other. My second tried team and it wasn't for her. Scamps kindly moved her right into the appropriate rec class and she still loves gymnastics because of it. They could have made it a negative to quit team, but they didn't. They made sure her young (then 5-year-old) feelings came first. My third is in the preschool classes and is having a blast.

Is this the very best gym? Probably not. We've been to one other gym (before a move) and loved it. Is this a really solid gym with a very caring staff? Definitely!

Depending on what your looking for in a gym. They have some really strong points and real low points. The coaches that have been there for a long time are great!! They are known for producing great gymnasts. People drive from all over Racine co., Kenosha co and Illinois to be trained by this gym. The young team coaches are rude to your 6,7and 8 They will leave the gym crying and wanting to quit. They are inexperienced on how to deal with small children. They have to feel like winners before they can win! I'm "now" happy with who my girls have and would recommend their coaches to any one. With respect that your child better be ready to train because they are in the business of training gymnasts to compete to win. If your child wants to go to the gym to play and learn some neat tricks then rec classes is probably more your thing. If your child has thick skin and has real drive to win then this competitive program is really a good one If you get an experienced coach like Sandy, Janet, Laura or Kevin. You will have nothing but good thing to say!

I have three gymnasts at Scamps. Two are on team and one is pre-team. I personally think that all our coaches are hard working and very dedicated individuals. They have helped to produce some fantastic gymnasts. My grand daughter is on tumbling and Trampoline team. she broke her arm in October and her coach (Kevin) did all he could to keep her involved and still feel part of the team. I believe this is a great place for our children to learn how to focus and to feel good about themselves.

Dear Anonymous,
Sorry you are so unhappy with this gym. If it is SO bad then why don't you look for another gym to attend?? I am sure nobody would miss a sourpuss attitude like yours! People like you bring the team spirit and moral down.
My gymnast has been attending for six years and we don't have a problem with any of the coaches.
You need to take a look at other options and don't let the door hit you in the ***.

Everything you read or hear about bad gymnastics coaches is true at this gym. One gymnast was kicked off the team because she was going to miss a meet. Oh yeah, she was under doctors orders not to compete because of a broken bone. The coach didn't care about the doctors opinion and didn't care if the gymnast re-injured herself. Another coach told a very young team gymnast that she was was too big and "she may as well stick her finger down her throat after she eats." I guess they also condone eating disorders. There are yelling tantrums and cussing by one of the coaches on a regular basis. If you are looking for a fun, safe atmosphere Scamps is not the place you want to go.
