The staff at Karate America do such a great job with making sure there is the right amount of structure and free time during the day for both afterschool care and summer camp. The program is great for our 5, 8, and 9 year old! Our boys love the instructors and are surely responsible for the fun and safe environment that our boys are comfortable in.

I think they are reasonably priced, considering that our boys get karate instruction during afterschool care and summer camp (optional, but definitely worth taking advantage of.)

Before signing up, I really looked into what we expected from a karate school. Was very concerned about the number of schools that focus only on progressing students through belts (i.e. additional fees for graduations). Definitely not the case with Karate America Oregon. They focus on the complete package, not just the belt and hold their students accountable not only at the karate school, but also at home and in their education.

Our children have been attending Karate America for about 3 years now. The programs they offer are outstanding. They incorporate both a physical fitness aspect with building confidence, self awareness and respect. It is the later that is most special about the school and where our children have gained the most. This together with the fun they have means it is a place that cannot be beat. Must experience it in person to get the true flavor.

Our son started at Karate America about 2 years ago. When he started he had low self-confidence and alot of anxiety and was seeing a counselor for these issues. Since being under the instruction of Mr. G. he has had an almost complete 180 from that time. He now holds his head up and speaks with confidence when talking to people. We no longer go to see the counselor at all! He is always so excited to go to class and learn new things. The only down side is sometimes the cost, but considering all the GOOD he has gotten out of it this far, IT IS VERY WELL WORTH IT!

My son started with a free summer a few years ago. He loved it! So much so that my daughter wanted to try it. We're still at it with a lot of energy. Both are determined to reach black belt and maybe even teach some day. Both have learned about courage, self-discipline and especially perseverance. My children have experienced several childcare venues and have been bored with most. Since they experienced Karate America's summer camp last year, they don't want to go any where else. "It's boring there! We have fun at Karate America and get to go cool places." Most recently we've begun attending the After School program. They do homework, play active games, and do crafts. My children are happy. What more can a parent ask for of a care giving institution?

Karate America has been absolutely fantastic for our family! They have an after-school program that picks up my kids from school and takes them to Karate America! The instructors and staff are caring, fun and well trained. By the time my husband picks them up after work, they have had a snack, karate lessons and usually have their homework done! This place is GREAT! ~PB~

Being a military spouse living back home near family while my husband is deployed I wanted to get my little man involved in some karate. While he is missing daddy something feirce, Karate and the afterschool program have helped keep him focused and moving in the right direction. He is so excited to be earing his stripes and graduating to his next belt. He has shown so much improvement in such a little time it amazes me. Mr G is great with the kids and demands respect from them and for them. I am thrilled with the results and the personal growth I am seeing in my little man who is 6. Thank you Karate America for the personal and professional care for my son.

I have taken martial arts lessons at Karate America - Oregon for just over a year and, wow, am I impressed! I have lost about 20 pounds and added muscle, I have more energy during the day, and the classes are led by great instructors who really care about the success of their students. The high-level of expertise and attention the instructors provide during the adult class are so helpful, but I also see how welcoming and effective they are with younger students, as well. I don't have any kids of my own yet, but when I do, you better believe I'm signing them up here! Martial Arts training at this school is fun, healthy, and something adults or kids or a whole family could do together!

Karate America is a world class program, the owner Sarah goes out of her way to make every child feel special. The Black Belt instructors are amazing a have been developing great kids as well as fantastic martial arts students, no wonder their program is know as the place to take kids for martial arts classes.

Also know as Legacy Academy and Karate America Oregon. This business does not follow the Karate America curriculum, they only bought the name. My daughter is locked into a 3 year contract that she can't wait to be finished. When we signed it 2 years ago, they had a very strict teacher (which she loved because of the constant feedback she received) but he left and the replacement does not ask nearly as much of the kids. A second, recently hired instructor who has not taught much, if ever, is now teaching the majority of classes, and she askes even less and praises efforts the first instructor would not have tolerated. In the class before the belt ceremony, the kids did not even practice the form that they would have to demonstrate to their parents at the ceremony. I do not feel the kids are now getting enough of the discipline needed to succeed in martial arts or derive the benefits (self-confidence, self-discipline) that martial arts are supposed to provide.

In addition, the management does not strive for mediocrity, much less the excellence they say they do. This Tuesday they passed out a paper that we needed the children's teachers to sign, due back Thursday. The (negative) feedback I provided three months ago (at their request for feedback) has not been addressed, other than to say "it sounds like you have some issues that we'll need to sit down together to address". Attendance in class is so very important to them, if you fall short by even one class of the required number between each belt level your child cannot advance to the next belt, and yet, they lost the children's attendance cards for two weeks.

Children that start before they are 8 (as mine did) have to earn 3 times as many belts (that we have to pay an additional $30 for each time). I understand that many academys do this, but we were not told we'd have to pay an extra $30 every three months. We had to purchase a huge (Read: expensive) bag of extra equipment at the beginning of the contract, however, it has barely been used, not at all in the last year.

Pluses, my daughter is fit and muscular, and the instructors are creative in the variety of exercises they ask the kids to do to warm up.

In general, quality has been slipping ever since we signed on, and we will not be renewing the contract once it has expired.
