Ratings_icons So understanding.........

I have a large 7 year old yellow lab that until last Friday had been in perfect health and only seen Dr. Jaeger once a year. We have been to the office for nail trimming and the staff is excellent. However, Titus experienced a severe allergic reaction to a bug bite that made him miserable. I arrived at 8:10 on Monday morning with no appointment or even a heads up phone call. The staff could not have been kinder, they were so understanding about my own panic and so tender with Titus who was very agitated and running a fever. They put me in a room and began assessing the situation even before Dr. Jaeger arrived. As soon as she arrived she came to care for Titus, she even apologized for keeping us waiting. We did not have an appointment so waiting was never an issue. They began treatment immediately which included clearing the fur from the bite area so he would not develop a "hot spot" , checking his ears, gums and glands, administrating the first dose of medication (which was not an easy task) Giving me clear and precise directions for the rest of the treatment and making it clear that if I didn't see a change to bring him back anytime. There was a follow up call on Tuesday to see how he was doing and reassurance that I could call with any concerns. We were in the office for 30 minutes, I received a fifteen day supply of cortisone and have never felt better about spending $64.00

We had used Prairie Animal Hospital for over 15 years. We have had 2 dogs with cancer and having a holistic approach helped them live enjoying life for longer than would have been anticipated.
When it came time to let them go, they felt the loss as well. The office always follows up when one of our dogs had a mishap they took care of to see how they were doing. They treat your animal as if they were theirs. My dog comes into the clinic with a wagging tail because he feels just as comfortable as I do seeing the vet, specifically Dr. Jaeger.

Ratings_icons Wonderfully caring Vets!

We have been taking our four dogs to Prairie Animal Hospital for 7 years and have had great experiences with all the Vets there. They are a top notch group, very knowledgeable and caring. As just one example of a professional going above and beyond the call of duty, Dr. Jaeger even came to our house on a Saturday (the same day we called) to euthanize our standard poodle Beowulf who was dying of cancer. To allow our Beowulf the opportunity to pass at home in his bed surrounded by his loved ones was a great comfort to us and helped us to be able to let him go. We just can't say enough about the kindness Priaire Animal Hosptial has shown us and our family.

Ratings_icons prairie animal hospital: truly compassionate

I tried many vets in the waukesha area to no aval. I was looking for a vet that would be on the holistic side of medicine instead of a pill popper. My dog has cancer and the idea of putting him thru chemo seemed just down right cruel. Prairie animal hospital was recommended to me by my acupuncturist. Dr. Raabe specializes in holistic medicine_ herbs, Chinese medicine and acupuncture. After a lengthy visit with him, he made me feel that there was hope for my dog. I do agree that the fees did concern me at first but then after dealing with Dr. Raabe and his staff, i felt the money was well spent. The entire staff was soo compassionate, (one of the vet techs cried with me), they treated my family and our beloved dog like we were their number one client. They know us by name and its refreshing to see and be treated with such respect and honor.

Don't believe everything you hear! Check them out for yourself if you are looking for compassionate, thorough, high quality, and professional care. I have worked with all 3 Doctors over the years and have always been treated exceptionally well by the entire staff. I have always been well informed and part of my pet's treatment plan and decision options.

I found this clinic to be very nice. I do agree that they charge for everything, but that is the status quote of the Vet. clinics. I disagree that ALL the doctors in the clinic are in the practice for the money as I know that Dr.Jaeger really care for the wealth been of her patients.

Ratings_icons Wouldn't let them treat my animal

George Y.

I agree with most of the previous review. These hacks charge for everything. They make a ton of money doing unwanted neutering. They passed a document to my ex-wife that was a UC Davis study that they claimed was proof neutering was essential for the dog's behavior. In reading the report myself, it proves that all castration does for sure is stop reproduction. The vets there are out for money only, animal care is only a means to get it.

Ratings_icons One bad visit too many

Jessica S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 10,240

My first 3 visits were wonderful, I believed I had found a keeper, however, this changed. There are three veterinarians that work at this facility. Some are great, and one in particular lacks social skills. In short, he managed to make me cry because I used an over the counter flea medication on my cats, and suggested I could have killed them with the product. In addition he chewed out his assistant in front of me for improperly placing an item on a counter. At the end of my visit, while paying, I also found that they charged me for a nail clipping, after the assistant suggested the vet could " show me how to do it properly."

PROS: Highly qualified vets
CONS: Caters to high income families, everything is a 'service' and will cost you
